Topic: New 3DS WiFi - 5 GHz Wireless N

Anyone know if specs have been released on the new 3DS? Speciifcally I want to know if the wifi now supports the 5 GHz frequency for N networks as the 2.4 GHz bands are virtually unusable where I live due to too many neighbours using all of the available channels and causing interference.

No, we don't know yet. We'll probably have to wait til its release in Japan (which isn't that far off anyway). But I do hope they add it, as well af 802.11ac, because it onlys supports 802.11b/g right now which is just extremely outdated.

Thanks, fingers crossed then, if it supports it I'll definitely upgrade (be sad to lose my Mugen battery though)

That sucks, was hoping they'd take the opportunity to come into this decade with the wifi

The new Australian promo promises faster wi-fi, a the very least I'd take that to say it supports 2.4 GHz n, but I now have fresh hope for 5 GHz

My main wifi uses 5ghz but so does the gamepad I wish I had a way of setting it apart. It does affect things.

I don't get any interference between my wifi hub and the wii u (they sit right next to each other). Have you tried changing channel on your wifi. If they are legitimately interfering with each other that will fix it, if you still have problems then it's not the two of them interacting causing the problem. It says online that the gamepad operates at 5.2 GHz or 5.8 GHz, channels 56-64 on 5 GHz (these are in the 5.3 GHz area) or 100-140 (5.5 GHz to 5.7 GHz) should keep it out of the frequency of the gamepad.

I've got the same problem here. I even did an analysis to find out the least populate channel. Turns out all my neighbours have it on auto setting so it's changing all the time. That was no good.

I think that's just the system being better able to manage downloaded data because of the extra processor speed or memory so that you can get the games installed on your system faster rather than any actual increase in wi-fi download speed.

Truly a shame, actually, because it would improve Streetpass as well.

Not to mention that I was looking forward to having the 2.4 GHz band on my router not being downgraded from N to G because my 3DS got on it.

The Aussie website states the same as the Japanese site (though obviously in English) – 2.4GHz Band (11b: 1-13ch/11g: 1-11ch)
See for yourself...
