So in a couple of hours, Nana Assault Ex will be available for purchase. A hybrid of Twin stick and scrolling shooter action, this is an updated version of the retail release. And as Shin'en quotes:

Shin'en wrote:

Nano Assault EX is based on the original Nano Assault retail game plus the all-new survivor mode, new online rankings, support for Circle Pad Pro, improved gameplay, updated graphics, etc.

Well, I never played the retail release and seeing that this supports the CPP I am more than willing to drop $15 for this. Will be posting some impressions once it hits the eshop.

Since I haven't played the original release, please forgive my repetition.

Okay, Played the game and stopped after beating the first Cell cluster(epsilon) on story mode which consists of four levels. Two of the levels play like your usual 3D twin stick shooter ala Super Stardust, another stage that is basically a bossfight and the last which plays like an auto 3D scrolling shooter ala Starfox then ended with another boss fight. The game runs beautifully at a smooth 60 fps and the Models and levels themselves look quite stunning for a 3DS game. It's no Super Stardust delta, but still technically impressive especially with the smooth framerate even with 3D enabled. As for the 3D itself, it's looks quite good but it also adds alot of ghosting in specific areas, much like the 3D effect of OoT. So far, this game has been a blast, especially with the CPP enabled. Looks like this is the type of arcade style game I'd love to keep with me as I commute.

Is there a difference between this version and the WiiU version?

All I know is Neo on the WiiU has 20 levels compared to the original's 32 levels. All I know from EX is that it is an enhanced version of the 3DS retail release with a survival mode and CPP support added in.

I want this but money is tight. Might be a month or two before I'm able to pick this up. Too many other good retail games out in the last few months till the end of the year really!

Although I know nothing about it and will look in here to see all the impressions of it. Looks good so far!

Thanks! I enjoy the WiiU game so this will be a future download for me.

This game makes me wish I had the CPP. It plays okay with the buttons for shooting, but then you have to plan your movements more carefully to be aligned for shooting things, which doesn't quite feel as fluid as playing Neo. I also don't really like the tunnel stages though, as it feels difficult to aim your shots sort of like in Star Fox. The 3D is pretty awesome though.

I had to ex-pat over to the EU shop to download this, because for some reason it's not available in Australia. I'm liking it so far though! My only gripe is the moving camera in the rail shooter sections, which rotates and sends me into obstacles which I would've dodged if it hadn't moved D:

always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)

Press start and change the aiming to axis and it works more like Neo.

I'm loving the game, it looks great, plays good and is difficult. It has some performance issues though.

It only took me about 3 hours to beat story mode, but I'm sure I'll get a lot more play time out of it. As for performance, it feels a tiny bit sluggish at times compared with Neo.

How many blocks is this game? IIRC it was on a 512MB card.

Also how does CPP work in flight levels?

This is a signature.
Link goes here now.
Screw you.

Details? Are these issues in the retail version of the 3DS Nano Assault? I plan to get this, but I want to hear more about how it compares to the retail version. I know it has everything plus extras and circle pad pro support, but this is the first I heard of performance issues.

For me, I found the first person starfox-y sections to have pretty choppy frame rate in my experiences.
