Yep, I read that earlier. Sounds great for eShop games! Plus its good to see Nintendo acknowledge the eShop's existence. That is a total shame about no StreetPass for Mario 3DS. Even if there aren't any amazing ideas of how to implement it they should have still done SOMETHING. Most 3DS owners are gonna buy that game so it would be great to show those of them that don't use StreetPass what its all about! Nintenndo NEEDS a high profile release that has a lot of StreetPass functionality!
I'm glad that they're not wasting time with fluffy streetpass stuff, if they can't think of something worthwhile, just for the sake of having it. Thanks for not wasting everyone's time, Ninty. More time for the large eShop games (super great news)! I wouldn't be surprised if we saw some sort of streetpass with Zelda (not OoT, but an original one for the 3DS), seeing as they did lots of little multiplayer things with PH and ST.
I'm sure Super Mario 3DS will have more than enough content anyways

About the 'no restrictions' thing it's possible he's referring to actual features... I heard PSN Minis can't have Online or something. It could also be size limit though but I actually doubt it... I don't think they'd allow games bigger than 2GB because then a person with a default 3DS wouldn't be able to have that game.

Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome. If they want to compete with the App Store then it's absolutely mandatory that there's no size limit. This also means we'll probably get a lot of great iOS ports, like Dead Space and stuff. :3

...but there's a size limit on the app store... and no there probably won't be any iOS ports than there is on DSiware.

To be fair, you don't really need a hard and fast size limit. Once you start getting games in the multiple GB range, it makes more sense to go retail and charge $35-$40 not $10-$15. Most of the times games of that size aren't by some little startups, so it's not like publishers would be an issue most of the time either.

Yeah but its' like 2 gB. Thats tons for a downloadable title.
Gameloft is already porting Let's Golf 2 for 3DSWare, and that's an iPhone game. Expect to see a lot of ports, since those are generally cheaper than making new games from scratch. And I'll be all over them, because real buttons > virtual buttons.
I'm sure a dev can't make a game an unreasonable size like over a GB or something. So I'm sure there is still a limit of some type its probably just set so high that no one is really gonna complain about it. I think 256 MB would be a very reasonable limit myself.

It's nothing to do with power. I just don't think there's desire from the majority of publishers. DSiware already had quite a few iOS ports and Gameloft had already ported games to DSiware and PSN Minis so them porting to the eShop isn't a surprise but I wouldn't expect EA to port any of their games to eShop. Especially not when they (think they) can get away with charging $40/£40 on 3DS.
EDIT: ha just saw a teaser for Lets Golf 3 for iOS and Android. I think that kind says it all about iOS->3DS ports.

No one should be charging $40 for downloadable games, I mean you don't have to pay material manufacturing cost.

It'd be MUCH cheaper for EA to port games digitally than to distribute cartridges. I imagine they'll release a port or two to see how well they sell and work from there. Also, they can still charge a premium on the eShop, and I'm sure they'll do it too.

Not really. The 3DS port of Let's Golf 2 was announced a few months ago. Let's Golf 3 was teased... today? LG3 probably started development in April since they already have an engine to work with. Gameloft is really not the best example; they churn out slightly different versions of the same games like crazy.

We'll have to see but I personally disagree, especially considering how down EA seems to be on traditional handhelds. In fact I'd say it's more likely we'll see them take 3DS retail releases and release them for super cheap on iOS.

Well the LG3 teaser said coming soon and I don't think it's just Gameloft. Zenonia only came out recently on DSiware but Zenonia 3 is already on the way to iOS and Android. Traditional handhelds are a secondary thought at best and I'm sure it'll stay that way.

That doesn't make sense. If they're down on traditional handhelds then they'd hardly spend more time and money to develop for the 3DS and then port them to the money-making iPhone. I can never see this happening beyond a few exceptions.

That's true only because iOS makes way more money than DSiWare. My point still stands, it's cheaper to port iOS games than to create new ones from the ground up, and that's why I think we'll see a bunch. Also note that I didn't say ports of "new" games, just ports of iOS games. And that's cool with me because there's a ton of great games already on the App Store that'd be sickly good with traditional button controls. Hell, I'd even buy some of them a second time. :3
