Topic: Is Xenoblade Chronicles N3DS really necessary?

Granted, the North American market was kind of neglected in regard to this game. But most players who wanted to play it bought for the wii in Europe or in Asia. Of course not every N3DS owner must have necessarily owned a wii but still it seems to me a little bit like a waste of resources to port this game to the N3DS.

IMHO they should have let RETRO create something completely different and new. Another game for the Wii U would have been more necessary than that.

I havent played it yet, though but made up my mind to play on the wii u should I get a chance to buy it in the near future...

What is your take? Is this port justified? Or would you have rather seen a different game be it for the 3ds (or N3DS) or Wii U.

Necessary? No.
Appreciated? Hell yes!

I am more than sure that Nintendo wanted to bring Xenoblade Chronicles to a larger audience than they could've through Gamestop. Let's just hope Gamestop does try to get a twisted exclusivity to block it from coming to the eShop. Also as far as I know Retro is more than busy working on whatever they are working after releasing Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze.

The Wii game was sold in very limited numbers and almost impossible to find for a decent price even second hand nowadays. This is a great way to get more people to play the original and get interested in the Wii U sequel. I'm finally getting a chance to play the game thanks to the 3DS port, so to me it is necessary, and without it I wouldn't play the sequel either.

1. What does Retro Studios have to do with this? The port is handled by Monster Games, Retro has no involvement as far as I know.
2. What you said about Europe isn't entirely true. Xenoblade is rare and highly sought after here as well. Not a single retailer I know of here in Sweden has a copy, and used copies that pop up online often go for very high prices.

1. My bad!

2. I ordered myself a copy for 45 EUR - already got used to pay high prices for nintendo games (I just hope I will like that game!!)

I'd say it's very necessary, at least from a wider standpoint.

I'm sure the main appeal is pointed towards japan, where mobiles and handheld dominate the maket, and the N3DS is already selling like crazy over there. So it stands to reason that the most critically acclaimed RPG of the last 10 years (if not more) will be released for it. That way, most japanese players who couldn't grab a copy on Wii have the opportunity to get it now, and without any stock issues thanks to the eShop version.

it is necessary for me since I am one of those people who never played the Wii version of the game. I already got my copy preordered. I can't wait for this game.

Want: Harvest Moon: One World, Story of Seasons: Pioneering Town, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury

Finished the Alola Dex.
Now playing New Horizons, Wrath of White Witch and Sword

I needs to see this game running in 3d, stable 3d at that. I never beat the original and sold it off but this will be more up my alley as I seem to play handheld gaming far more then console as of late.

No game release can ever be justified. They're just stealing us precious time better spent yoyoing.

I live in Europe. I didn't play it due to the high price.

I found a copy for €35 last summer. It's a rare game, but I don't think it's as difficult to find for a reasonable price as the NTSC version.

This is my biggest concern and I'm not even sure how Nintendo would get it onto the eshop anyway. There's nothing to distinguish the New 3DS eshop from the 3DS eshop so "technically" you could download it on a standard 3DS by accident.

I'm pretty sure there will be a safeguard to prevent that...

I hope that they will do a WiiU download but hey the more people that get hyped up for this game and the next in the series the better.

I'm pretty hype for it because it's exclusive to N3DS, and I want a game that really shows off its extra CPU. I've never played Xenoblade, but now I will.

Can't see anything wrong with it myself. I tend to prefer RPGs on handheld anyway, so I'd prefer to play it on 3ds, even though I've already played it.

I don't think it is necessary, as I own the Wii version and since there is nothing else that is exclusive (except Amiibo useage) I have no reason to get a New 3DS.

I was disappointed to hear that this remake is what Monster was working on. I was really hoping they were working on a new Excite game. ExciteTruck and ExciteBots were great.

People keep saying the Xbox One doesn't have Backwards Compatibility.
I don't think they know what Backwards Compatibility means...
