I've been following RPG Maker FES since I heard about and it's finally becoming a reality. Due out in North America in late July. A really nice feature is you don't even have to own the software to play the games on your 3DS. There will be an app available when the game releases which allows you to download and play the games. I think the app will be free in the Eshop. I saw that Amazon was Pre selling and is offering the game for 31.99 to Prime Members so I Pre ordered it. Can't wait for this game. I hope it supports 3d but I'm not counting on it. Anyone else excited about RPG MAKER FES?
Still playing 3DS but will have Switch soon for multiplayer with friends. I miss you guys! Adam, Joni, Gavin and the rest of the Blue Rogues from the Phantasy Star Zero Days.

Oh HECK yes I'm excited! I preordered the day it was announced. The console versions of RPG Maker can seem somewhat limited if you want to make a game for public consumption, but as a tool where you can create campaigns for friends to play though (like you would a D&D adventure), they're great and the app only makes it better. This is definitely my most anticipated game coming out in 2017, unless we get news of an E0V localization.
@World im very excited ive always wanted to create some ideas ive had for rpg's for years. I hope this will let me do what ive been wanting to do. Everything is classical based rpg ideas. I had pretty good success using Game Maker on PC years ago. But I had no luck at all using SmileBasic. This looks more like a drag and drop.

I've dabbed in the PC RPG Makers before, but I felt the need to go for a professional grade game. Although some things turned out rather well, it ended up as a vastly overwhelming experience. With FES, the tools will be a bit more limited, which should actually allow me to make and finish a game for once.
So yeah, I'm very excited!
I've always liked the idea of an RPG maker; the very idea stimulates my mind immensely. However, in practice, many things become tedious to implement, especially on PC, as the only way to change things like menus or the battle system is to edit actual code. And don't even get me started on custom graphics...
With FES I think I'll be able to accept the limitations and just make a cute little game. Being able to make an RPG on the go, and with the 3DS touchscreen, will be fantastic!

I hope that we will have the ability to draw/animate/voice our own monsters and characters, though it looks doubtful judging from whatever little I have seen. I wish it was possible to export our games to an SD card so that we can upload them online and share them rather than relying on the publisher's servers, which will inevitably go offline at some point (and considering how late we are into the lifespan of the 3DS, I wouldn't expect them to be around for very long, especially for a niche title like this that will only be further overshadowed by the Switch).
"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
@Windy Yeah, the console RPG Maker titles come with lots of presets if you just want to get a game going in the least amount of time, but traditionally there's more depth if you need it. This one is going to have theme DLC packs (the game comes loaded with "Fantasy," and there is a "Sci-Fi" one in the works so far) which I think will be interesting.
@World neat! Im also hoping they might have a Earthbound type of package. I want to do a simple earthbound type of theme about a protaganist named Bob who gets into all sorts of trouble. Just real simplistic stuff but plays fast about 4 to 6 hours to beat. Im very excited and cant wait

@Windy I've had a lot of good times with the console RPGs putting together short games for friends to play, so you should be able to do that. They're not as open-ended as the PC ones, but they're fun if you just want to make a story to play.
Oh yeah, I'm super excited for this. Definitely my most anticipated game of this year. I had no idea we'd ever see something like this in the West again (and on a portable)!
@World I hope so. I love the SmileBasic program but I havent been able to learn from it nor do the easiest of things with it. But I do download and look at what others have done and its been fun in that way. Somebody came up with a version of Celeste on SmileBasic thats darn near Eshop Quality and runs with stereoscopic 3d. Really impressive among otger impressive games

I was browsing ds games. According to Amazon's japanese website. RPG Maker was released on DS back in 2010. It doesn't matter to me as I'm not into RPG's but thought the info might come in handy for someone looking for older version of rpg maker to play! 😊
Happy Gaming! 😊

I am looking forward to this. Haven't touched my 3DS in a long time. Now I will, just to create RPGs for others. I got few ideas, but I don't know what the software is like or the possibilities you have with your creation.
A simple guy can never help. But a great guy will never help.
@Meowpheel That alone is crazy to me from their perspective. I thought I had misread that on the eshop update.
That to me is the big selling point of this game at all. I don't have the time/talent/creativity to make an RPG worth playing, but I'd love to dip into other people's attempts. I can't help but imagine there's some kind of catch or limitation.

So for some reason RPG Maker Fes Player is out today. I downloaded it, hoping someone with an early copy made a short game so I could see how the games' play. Thankfully, there was a pretty good (but short) one, The Demo of Demos, and dang those sprites are cute! I've always liked RPG maker, but it never felt at home, graphics-wise, on a PC. Fes will definitely be more limited than the PC versions, but dang, those sprites are right at home on the 3DS!
@nf_2 I found the catch (I think). In order to play games with DLC, you have to purchase the DLC on the player as well. I sure am glad my favorite set is (default) Fantasy.

Always wanted to jump into game development, especially rpgs. Had been looking at RPG Maker MV and Game Maker Studio 2 for a while now but I never made a purchase since online tutorials makes them seem rather complicated, though, I think it'll become clearer and easier if I learned by doing while watching those tutorials.
Anyway, 40€ plus DLC does not sound too bad for a beginner's set. Who knows, maybe I like it and buy the MV-Version someday.
