Before 2013. Less than two years into it's lifespan.

I've seen on the internet a few people say that they would have to a remodel quickly because of a "flaw". This is Nintendo we're talking about. They aren't going to release a 300 dollar system and then anounce there was a "flaw" with their system. That's microsoft's job.

Couldn't resist the cheap shot.

Nintendo Started doing this, around the the Time of the First Game Boy. They Came out with The Same Game Boy again but, in diffident Colors, and that made them alot of Money.

And after that, The rest was History.

What does diffident mean?

dif·fi·dent
adj ˈdi-fə-dənt, -ˌdent
1. hesitant in acting or speaking through lack of self-confidence
2. reserved, unassertive

Examples:
She was diffident about stating her opinion.
For someone who makes a living performing for other people, the actress is remarkably diffident in real life.

@HolyMackerel I think it was a misspelling. He meant to say 'different'.

BTW I hate yearly updates.

I have a DS lite, and I'm glad I didn't upgrade. The 3DS is going to be awesome, and even if there is new one, I would still be happy with the the first 3DS.

It took four years for the DSi, a new DS that could do (a few and, in the grand scheme of things, insignificant) things the older DS couldn't, was released.
The DS Lite was released about a year after the Phat, but it didn't really have anything the Phat didn't (unless you count GBA carts poking out at you and millions of fingerprints).

Just sayin'.

At least two years, and it'll probably be longer. Nintendo rarely does yearly updates, at least to my knowledge, and I doubt they'd ever start. It's bad business, if you ask me.

I bet Nintendo is going to release another 3DS after the first one is released from Nintendo. Nintendo always does that.

Actually the Lite is what made the DS massively popular. I didn't get a DS until the Lite was out. Why? It was way better looking, had a better form factor, a better stylus, brighter screens with multiple settings and a much longer battery life than the Phat. I call that a significant improvement.

The best improvement they could make on the 3DS would be making 3D work from any viewing angle. I don't understand how any game using the accelerometer could still work in 3D. If Nintendo fixed this problem they could make it possible for a 3DS XL, since the DSi XL was made partly to allow a group to huddle around one system, and a group requires multiple viewing angles.

@Scizor Nope, the nature of this 3D tech makes viewing at any angle other than straight on blurry with the 3D effect on. Which is why Nintendo says they know that 3D and accelerometers don't mix. But they can. So long as you move with the 3DS so you're still looking straight on, the 3D will not blur on you. So break out the neck brace and put a 3DS mounting system on it and you'll have no issues. heh

As for more than one person, nope, can't happen without glasses. Or each person having their own 3DS.

Thankfully, judging from the videos the effective viewing angle isn't that small.

And that's all the Lite was, an improvement. It didn't add any new features like the DSi did. So yeah, there might be an improved version coming out a year after the 3DS's initial release, but I don't think there'll be a version worth getting, if you already have the old one, coming out for a while. This is all personal opinions, of course. I didn't make the jump to the Lite myself because it didn't offer anything new, but the DSi had the option of downloading games, and was supposed to get a bunch of DSi exclusives, and so I bought a DSi.
Likewise, the GBA SP had built-in lights and rechargeable batteries, definitively worth making the jump from the old GBA. The Micro on the other hand, was just smaller and nothing necessary if you already had the SP.

That's my logic, anyway.

I agree with your logic!
My first system was the GBC (I won it in a contest), but I only got two games for it (Super Mario Bros Deluxe (first game, and what a great start! ) and Lego Island 2). I was busy with my N64.
Within two years, I got a Cube and a year or two after that, I bought a used Game Boy Player (had to order the disk from Nintendo).
I bought a floor-model DSPhat from a closing Walmart(they were super-sizing the stoor) a few months after its launch and last fall, I bought a lightly-used DSi.
I can't wait to get my grubby mits on a 3DS and am hoping for GBA downloads in the VH! At the time, I saw little point in the GBA. To this day, I've only owned one GBA game. It was a Disney movie game which someone left behind at a restaurant.
P.S. I've also found a copy of NSMB at BK shortly after I bought the game myself!

Judging from how Nintendo has done things with the DS, I'd predict about 2 years before a 3DS Lite shows itself to the world. From the screenshots, it honestly looks like the 3DS could use some, if minor, improvements to the design. First of all, it looks a bit heavy and bulky. I'm almost certain that they'll make a lighter, more compact, and sleeker version of the hardware sometime in the future. Seriously, the design, while not bad, just doesn't look as flush and sleek as the DS Lite or DSi looked.

my vote is before the 3DS releases. They'll announce the "3DSkinny" which will be 91% of the same size and will include a pedometer that measures your weight and lets you talk to your friends while playing 1 game.
