I used to spend a lot more time in game stores when I was a little kid. Loved talking to the Japanese clerks about what games were coming out in the US and Japan and sometimes I really blew their mind with the knowledge I had. Got my first taste of the PS2 in that store, learned a lot about Japanese culture, discovered many obscure titles, and overall I had a fun time. My poor mom would be so bored as I'd be walking through the aisles, chatting with the clerks, and looking at all cool accessories.
Now that store is gone. The only other import mom and pop store that is really close to me is extremely expensive. No way am I paying $95 for Monster Hunter 4. I'll chat with the employees at my local Gamestop. They tend to know their stuff and the manager sounds exactly like Merida from Brave. But, I don't hang out anymore. I've got the internet for that!
I used to hang out at record stores too before, you know, the internet destroyed them.
No. I usually don't go there unless I'm going to buy something. I look around, maybe ask a few questions(like where something is), respond to questions about PowerUp rewards or pre-orders, then leave.
The only time I've gone to GameStop and looked around more than I usually would is if they didn't have what I was looking for. I've literally walked into stores and no one said a word to anyone.

I only ever go into Game in the Uk to pick up the event Pokemon and that about it, it's too crowded and it's a lot, lot cheaper to buy online/other shops.
I think this idea is interesting! What if we converted a game store from the sterile titles-on-racks browsing experience into a cool place where people can hang out, like one of those new age bookstores. Put beanbags on the floor and have consoles set up for open rounds of Mario Kart or something else casual so that even people who don't like gaming can come and relax. Imports, collector's packs, stacks of old/obscure games which are just there to have a dig through. Something which didn't reflect gaming as just another way to make money - instead, it would be about having fun and building communities.
That being said, this probably would never work. I know of two board game lounges which existed in my city which were definitely awesome places to hang out. Unfortunately one closed and the other sees so little traffic that sometimes the owner doesn't even bother opening up. Both clearly ran at deficits. As awesome as it would be, I guess it'll never happen
always thought I'd change to Gyarados after I turned 20 but hey, this is more fitting I guess. (also somebody registered under the original Magikarp name and I can't get back to it anymore orz)
No. Simply because I view all shopping ventures as "buy what you want, leave ASAP." Not to mention, who wants to hang in a Game store? There are better things for me to do than hang in a Game store... Like gaming.
nope, but I used to hang at card stores all the time.
ahhh all those tournaments, I loved going to them! even losing everytime!
goodbyes are a sad part of life but for every end there's a new beggining so one must never stop looking forward to the next dawn

Used to know this game store where kids would not only buy games, but got to play games for a certain amount of time in the store. I thought that was a good idea. A gamers kickback.

I do hang out at a little retro video game store downtown, talk about old games, argue over why exactly I hate Sony so much (the owner/lone employee is a huge Sony nut). The people who come in are generally like minded gamers and collectors, so you can strike up a conversation. Funny that I never get into huge discussions on this site or any other for that matter, at least about games I like or hate and the why's of either. I think faceless arguing is cowardly and if you want to do it, do it in person. I love heated discusions very much, especially when I get proved wrong on a point, because that is the whole idea of exchanging information. I hope the guy stays in business, I buy stuff from him every once in a while, even though he really has nothing I don't already have in my collection that I actually want. But my son sure is starting to have a good classic game collection.
