Although some may think the screen size is the biggest plus (and it is REALLY nice), I am noticing so much more. The Antiglare on the screen for one is very underated! Today I am sitting in the park playing in bright direct sunlight. It looks great I couldnt even think about using my Vita outside More to come later....
It's not out here yet but I've played around with EB's demo system a bit.
The screens are really nice and the whole anti-glare thing is most welcome.
I also find it quite impressive how other people can actually watch WHILE the 3D is turned on without just hurting their eyes.
I could actually see the 3D a bit from about a metre behind the person using it on an angle.
On the negative side of things though, I find the system itself to be a bit too big and the shape feels a little funny, like it's a bit too thin or rounded or something.
I can probably adjust for most games.
Mario Kart wasn't too bad, my fingers just had to stretch a little bit to reach the shoulder buttons.
I'm almost certainly going to play Kid Icarus: Uprising exclusively on my normal 3DS though.
It's just way too hard to get a good grip on the XL for the one-handed style of play so I wouldn't be able to play as well on it, plus it's a bit of a stretch to reach the powers in the bottom left hand corner of the screen.
It does seems like a decent system though if you can ignore its looks.
I wouldn't want to replace my normal 3DS with it completely, but it's nice to have the option to use the XL with some games and original model with others.
the screens are cheap compared to the launch models. of course, they're no better on the newer 'small' 3DS's either, but if you have an early system it's a downgrade. the backlight is also pretty dim, i have to have it on 4 or 5 to match the original on 3.
ASIDE FROM THAT it's great. i was worried about the lower PPI i don't mind the bigger pixels at all. it's not like upscaling -there's no distortion or loss of quality; every pixel is displaying the exact same way as on the original 3DS... just a little bigger. it feels great and looks good.
I just picked up my red 3DS XL yesterday. At first, I was planning on purchasing the blue, but it was already out of stock at that particular Gamestop. However, I'm just glad that the trade-in offer was valid and I got a good bargain. For the release day only, Gamestop would give $100 off the price of the 3DS XL if you traded in your 3DS for one. Otherwise, they told me it would normally be only $55 in trade-in value. After I buy a case, I'll then open it up and see how much that I'll enjoy this new handheld. However, I can already tell that I'm going to love it.
I love the 3DS XL, it's big screens are bright and clear. The shape is comfy in my hands, they feel relaxed while playing. I also like the stylus position, and the smooth matte finish! My Vita sits in the case and gathers dust mostly, it's become a costly piece of junk, lol. I have one decent game for Vita and 8 great games on 3DS XL
I'm sure over time the Vita will pick up for you, Nitendnut. If you'd like to discuss the XL, though, please feel free to do so in the main 3DS XL thread. Thank you! :3
