hey i couldnt find something similair in the forum. (also: isnt there a forum-only search function? )

post your problems with the 3DS hardware.

PROBLEM:
my slide pad is slightly turnable. i mean i can rotate it left and right just 1-2milimeters or so. i couldnt do this a few days ago so i guess something could be broken or loose. i can still play games with it but i am afraid it maybe could break in the near future.
have you seen something similair? what should i do? zelda is comming i dont want my 3DS send to nintendo now xD

I find the 3DS is made out of cheap material, for something worth for 250€. However making a forum for posting problems about it as if it is common there are problems..? Hmm.

Anyway, your d-pad isn't different from ours. You should be glad there aren't cuts on the rubber yet, like mine's and many. I suppose if Nintendo would make a new subtle version of the 3DS, they should add a metal circle pad. Or d-pad protectors.
Also, my Y and X-buttons are making crack noises, and feel looser than the A and B-buttons.

Love my 3DS, Fighting games and Zombies. Enuff' said.

My circle pads rotated ever since I got it out of the box, I think it's meant to anyways, otherwise it would most likely break easier. The only problem is that the touch screen and circle pad leaves lines on the upper screen. >.< Sometimes a bit slow and SpotPass doesn't always work but its worked better since the new update and can finally hook up to local open internet routers.

But the 3DS isn't made of very high quality materials anyway, so you have to expect some faults with it at some point and I'd expect better at £250, ah well...

Oddy's List of 3DS Hardware "Problems" (The Short Version):

  • Lines on 3D Screen from raised Touch Screen
  • Face Buttons become squeaky and stuck when used too often in one sitting
  • L and R Buttons still feel cheap and plastic-y; as a result I try to avoid using them so they won't break, which is a pain
  • Telescoping Stylus is beyond stupid because there's never any reason to not have it fully extended
  • Bulky, three-layered approach to design is impractical and excessive
  • Select, Home, and Start Buttons are complete rubbish
  • Circle Pad had a dent in it after only a few days of use (did it start that way?)
  • Headphone Jack seems oddly placed
  • .3 megapixel cameras defeat the point of the extra cost for 3D photos
  • Ever since the eShop update my 3DS charging light has not gone off even when the system was finished charging
  • Cradle is kind of stupid; I much prefer the AC adapter
  • Volume doesn't go high enough
  • Wireless must be switched on through a physical switch
  • 3D slider doesn't affect depth at all for me until I roughly hit increments of 25- and 75-percent

As indicated by the word "problems" being in quotation marks, these are mostly minor nitpicks that I just felt like ranting about. I might send my system into Nintendo for a free repair on the buttons before SAGA comes out and I have a new computer to keep me busy, however. Pleasantly, once I turn the system on it's all sunshine and rainbows. Internet/application multitasking FTW!

-it doesnt take much space. thats why it is telescope
  • Bulky, three-layered approach to design is impractical and excessive
.why is this impractical? just a matter of taste not of functionality
  • Select, Home, and Start Buttons are complete rubbish
-could be better but it works fine
  • Circle Pad had a dent in it after only a few days of use (did it start that way?)
well that dent has always been there and it is great. xbox controller had it and it makes controlling much better. one reason why i dont play with dualshock pads anymore. they dont have this dent
  • Headphone Jack seems oddly placed
-huh? right in the middle pointing add you. where else should it be?^^
  • Cradle is kind of stupid; I much prefer the AC adapter
-you dont have to use it. i dont use it either.
  • Volume doesn't go high enough
-cant understand that. i dont have any problems with the volume. clear and loud.
  • Wireless must be switched on through a physical switch
-thats a really good thing. you dont need to go to the settings every time and switch it on and off. on eof the best small features of 3DS in my opinion
  • 3D slider doesn't affect depth at all for me until I roughly hit increments of 25- and 75-percent
    -hm guess thats normal

I'm new to the forum, but I'm looking for answers regarding hardware issues with the NINTENDO 3DS, I had a problem with the 3DS, a problem not described in the Nintendo Support Site, and so far not completely described. The problem in hand, had to do with a chipset malfunction, and for that reason a replacement was the solution. I have concerns regading heating issues or overloading the console. But over the internet I haven´t seen any information regarding why this happens.
Another issue as a direct result of replacing hardware, is that my old hardware was part of the Ambassador program and with the new hardware, this and my items bought in the EShop have not updated. I'm working to solve this with the distributors for Nintendo in México.
Regards for any insights

The gyroscope in my son's 3DS was defective right out of the box. I called Nintendo and they issued me an RMA number so I was able to send it back in for repair free of charge. Unfortunately, when I received it back the note that was included in the package stated, "Problem Resolved by replacing SD card", which I thought was a bit of a strange solution. I also made the mistake of sending it back in the original 3DS box in order to keep the 3DS safe. Sadly, they did not return the box back to me. After re-reading the original return instructions, in the wall-of-text lawyer-esque portion, they stated not to send it in the original packaging.

After booting it back up, we learned that the problem was not resolved and we had to ship it back a second time. This time they sent us back a different 3DS.

I'm getting my share of small problems with the system.

1: Well, already had to replace the top screen thanks to the bottom screen scratching it when closed. (sent it to Nintendo though so wasn't a big deal)
2: Hinges are becoming slightly loose when locked in place. Though my hard case manages to hold it in place for now.
3: the stylus... Why not use a more rubbery tip? already scratched the touchscreen (though also got it fixed when sent in)
4: Screen protectors! holy crud it should be stated on the box "If you want this to last for even a few months, buy some screen protectors." (I recommend Hori screen protectors, they are the best )
5: Slider for volume was a terrible idea. should have went with buttons
6: the R/L triggers seem to be already going out (or are they suppose to make a loud "click" noise when I press on them?)

Hopefully if they do decide to remake this down the road they choose better quality materials so these, while minor, problems don't happen to the new adapters.

My 3DS is scratched up. I blame it on Nintendo for making a system that can't handle falling onto concrete. Nintendo should replace all our 3DSs with newer, tougher versions. Or somebody could just replace all the concrete in the world with rubber. Either works for me.

my top screen is a tiny bit "loose"
hard to describe and my englisch is not that good...

i can push the top screen from left to right and vice versa. but just for like 0,1mm. it makes a click sound.
but the top screen is still working and it doesnt effect anything right now. hope it doesnt get worse. no idea where this comes from. my 3ds dropped once but that was months ago

That happens with my top screen too. And I also dropped my 3DS, like, 4 to 5 times in the last 4 months. And, another problem that my 3DS has, is when ever apply some sort of force to either the left or right side of the system, it does this weird creaking noise, as if it's going to break. And it's not like I'm pressing down hard. It mostly happens when I'm playing Mario Kart 7.

Spookybif's List of 3DS Hardware "Problems" (in the style of Oddy):

  • Lines on 3D Screen from raised Touch Screen
  • How does this even happen
  • L and R buttons feel great
  • Something True
  • Complaint about ridiculously minimal problem
  • I feel mad because I don't like change
  • Yes it was made that way
  • Headphone Jack seems placed
  • .3 megapixel cameras defeat the point of the extra cost for 3D photos because my world has to be in HD in every representation
  • My life sucks
  • I feel like making life harder
  • Actually Reasonable
  • Something Really, Really Stupid
  • Another Reasonable Thing

And yes I'm aware he stated they are minor nitpicks, but I felt like having fun.

In response to Oddy...

  • Telescoping Stylus is beyond stupid because there's never any reason to not have it fully extended
If you have tiny hands, sure, but grasping a tiny stylus for hours on end would give me hand cramps. Telescoping is so much nicer.
  • Bulky, three-layered approach to design is impractical and excessive
The 3DS is almost exactly the same size as the DSLite and DSi.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nintendo_3DS (scroll down to 'Technical Specifications')
You can judge it on style, but that's all opinion and I love it.
  • Circle Pad had a dent in it after only a few days of use (did it start that way?)
... you mean that it's concave? They are all that way.
  • Ever since the eShop update my 3DS charging light has not gone off even when the system was finished charging
Nintendo released a following update to remedy that one or two days after. I had the same problem. Haaaad.

I get that too, I don't even apply that much pressure and it starts creaking and groaning as if it's going to snap in my hands...
My right speaker is busted, it crackles if I put the volume up too high.
There are lovely straight scratches on both sides of my top screen.
A lovely circle on my top screen.
Dust between the gaps on the touch screen and top screen.
Serial code is starting to disappear.
When my 3D slider gets cold it won't move until I move my 3DS to a warmer climate.
Mic is full of dust so it no longer functions as well.
EDIT: 3D doesn't work outside when it's sunny.

Urgh... Nintendo, why couldn't you of used better quality materials and made it not be a dust collector, seriously, I'm having to wipe it clean every single day.

wtf are you doing with your 3DS? xD

telescope stylus is only there because nintendo needed more space for the hardware you know? at least i think thats why there is not a normal long stylus. but i dont have problems with that.

I do get quite worried about my 3DS' top screen as it seems to be quite loose. It usually creaks a lot when you open/close the system and it moves a little bit left and right if you push it. It drives me mad. Are lots of people having this issue? I do want to upgrade to a red one and hope that one works fine. Oh and the bottom screen makes lines on the top screen but I have screen protectors on now so it shouldn't be scratching my screen.
