Re: Feature: Six Things That Need To Change In The Zelda: Ocarina Of Time Remake

I’d like to see them reincorporate things they took out of the game originally due to cartridge restraints. Because originally I believe this was being made for N64DD when it switched they had significantly less space to work with.

The original light temple got cut, I’d love to see that be included right before Ganon’s castle. Perhaps with some tweaks and forcing to solve puzzles using all the items/weapons at that point.

The original ice temple dungeon would also be great.

Re: Talking Point: Do You Play Zelda Games For The Story?

Probably an unpopular take but I found the story in both BOTW and TOTK were very scattered due to the “play your way” style of the games.

I love the simple and often predictable storytelling of the games going back to Link to the past and Links Awakening. Those progressions felt meaningful to me not just an ends to a means.

Some highlights for me were discovering a whole other half of the game in LTTP, discovering it was just a ‘dream’ in LA, multiple moments in OOT/MM/TP, discovering OOT hyrule in WW was epic for me, the Lorule Link reveal was sweet as well. Even Echoes of wisdoms story was engaging and felt meaningful (didn’t love the passive gameplay though).

Didn’t really find that with either BOTW or TOTK, even though there were some cool cutscenes it was so spread out depending on how you decided to play (cheese) the game. But I know I’m in the minority on that take.

Re: Review: Mobapad Chitu2 HD Controller For Switch 1 & 2 - Almost Beats Nintendo At Its Own Game

@mlt I was reading up on it a bit more last night as I found it somewhat fascinating. Because 2D games relied on accurate directional movement those old D-pads were built to be extremely precise and accurate.

Apparently high-precision membrane D-pads are still considered "industry standard" for fighting games and 2D platformers but I can totally see why. The SNES NSO controller is definitely membrane but seems a bit firmer than the original. Although with how worn out my original is hell if I know (ha!).

@JSC016

Personally, I’ve found the further away from linear they go the more convoluted and patchwork the story gets (not just a problem to the Zelda series either).

I truly do miss that linear approach with a strong narrative, Elden ring as an example was a disaster from a story telling perspective unless you follow along with online articles. TOTK was not quite that bad but still felt more like doing things with one vague objective to go through all game.

Really need a break from this “choose your own adventure” style of video game creation on the Zelda series. Having a little deviation is cool but this whole use anything anyway you want to solve it how you want in your own way is just tiring for me.

This game appears to be a compromise of both but I wish it was just traditional imo. Will still play it but I’m fairly disappointed from what I’ve seen so far.

Re: Best Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Games, Ranked - Every TMNT Game On Switch And Nintendo Systems

tblal

I’m sorry editors but arguably better than SOR4? What?!

Look, I love me some turtles since I was a young lad but Shredders Revenge while a great game doesn’t hold a candle to the art style, variety, gameplay, level designs and music of Streets of Rage 4.

Shredders revenge was also released with a story mode and not much else, slightly better now but SOR4 has more in that regard to. SOR4 has a vivid comic book hand drawn design, the visuals pop and the music is amazing and the game overall is a clear cut above Shredders Revenge.

Re: Soapbox: Chrono Cross Really Deserves To Come To Switch Before Chrono Trigger

@moodycat Chrono Trigger really is that good, from the year it was made to the art style, the story and the music. Add the humour and gameplay with the colourfully characters, it’s something incredibly special and has pretty much universal acclaim.

If you personally don’t like it that’s totally fine, however it really is that good.
