One of the best games I have played in over a decade. Didn't look anything up and just embraced being stuck not sure what to do or where to go. It was the same sense of discovery I had playing the original Zelda & LTTP.
@mlt I was reading up on it a bit more last night as I found it somewhat fascinating. Because 2D games relied on accurate directional movement those old D-pads were built to be extremely precise and accurate.
Apparently high-precision membrane D-pads are still considered "industry standard" for fighting games and 2D platformers but I can totally see why. The SNES NSO controller is definitely membrane but seems a bit firmer than the original. Although with how worn out my original is hell if I know (ha!).
@LinktotheFuture it is but they changed them some point down the line where each direction use to be an independent button contact (SNES,NES, N64 dpad,) on a rubber like membrane. With the introduction of analog sticks and 3d games the dpad got changed away from that high precision 8 directional.
@Dev-N I share similar sentiments with BTOW and TOTK, preferring the older style linear ish games.
Link to the past (SNES) is a nice blend of original top down but much more modernized than the original. I would recommend giving it a try if you haven’t yet.
Personally, I’ve found the further away from linear they go the more convoluted and patchwork the story gets (not just a problem to the Zelda series either).
I truly do miss that linear approach with a strong narrative, Elden ring as an example was a disaster from a story telling perspective unless you follow along with online articles. TOTK was not quite that bad but still felt more like doing things with one vague objective to go through all game.
Really need a break from this “choose your own adventure” style of video game creation on the Zelda series. Having a little deviation is cool but this whole use anything anyway you want to solve it how you want in your own way is just tiring for me.
This game appears to be a compromise of both but I wish it was just traditional imo. Will still play it but I’m fairly disappointed from what I’ve seen so far.
I’m sorry editors but arguably better than SOR4? What?!
Look, I love me some turtles since I was a young lad but Shredders Revenge while a great game doesn’t hold a candle to the art style, variety, gameplay, level designs and music of Streets of Rage 4.
Shredders revenge was also released with a story mode and not much else, slightly better now but SOR4 has more in that regard to. SOR4 has a vivid comic book hand drawn design, the visuals pop and the music is amazing and the game overall is a clear cut above Shredders Revenge.
@moodycat Chrono Trigger really is that good, from the year it was made to the art style, the story and the music. Add the humour and gameplay with the colourfully characters, it’s something incredibly special and has pretty much universal acclaim.
If you personally don’t like it that’s totally fine, however it really is that good.
@Snatcher I must have misread the article, I didn't read the one single point that says "just press B". In fact it looks like there is gasp more to it.

Re: HD-2D Series Octopath Traveler Hits Another Major Sales Milestone
@JHDK That’s fair, I love them (RPGs) but I particularly love these games.

@LinktotheFuture think he means a traditional style dpad maybe?

@Banjo- I love OOT as well but something about a link to the past keeps it top for me.
Re: Double Dragon Gaiden Adds Four New Fighters In Free DLC Switch Update
Still no cross platform multiplayer support. Sad
Re: Feature: These Past 8 Years Have Been A Privilege
..I’m not crying..you’re crying.
Re: Random: Someone's Tried To Fix Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom's Awful UI
She doesn’t get a bow, the temporary link ability gets a bow to use for a brief period of time.
If she had a bow to use natively I would have enjoyed it much much more.
Re: Random: Someone's Tried To Fix Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom's Awful UI
Can they fix the combat instead? Or lack thereof to be exact.
Standing around waiting is mind numbing level boring. Even just a bow for Zelda or Din’s fire would have been a great improvement.
Re: Nintendo Switch Finally Surpasses PlayStation 2's Lifetime Sales In The US
@JokerCK
Or they might have to “readjust” their numbers again.
Re: Steam Deck Sales Business As Usual For Valve During Week Of Switch 2 Reveal
Ahh yes the ol convenient “it’s just a glitch” story, works like a charm.

At least digimon changed the concept and didn’t use a ball

@bleeflooflah
I imagine as a charging port in handheld, charging the current models while holding it in your lap often bends the cord/port.

@Classic603 That was my impression with the original BTOW as well.

@Don Super Mario RPG is fantastic, would love a rerelease of it.

Now if only I could actually order the NSO’s SNES controller to play these properly.......
