Re: The Easiest Nintendo Switch Games

skeets

This article needs a giant asterisk explaining "easy **to roll the credits**". Several of these games, despite being very easy to roll the credits on.... are actually extremely difficult to complete. In particular, Yoshi and Kirby games are notorious for having very, very difficult post games. Metroid dread is actually a cakewalk compared to Yoshi's crafted world's post game.

Re: Feature: The One Thing Wii Did Much Better Than Switch

skeets

I guess I learned something today... I didn't know this opinion was even possible. And based on the comments, not only is it possible, but even common?!?! Personally....

Gyro pointing >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> IR pointing.

It was the single best upgrade in the switch version of Mario Galaxy. I played both versions of the game in the last 4 years for the first time, and the gyro controls made a world of difference, far superior to IR.

With IR, you have to stop playing to "find the bar" with your remote.... And it never worked well for me, so it always took a while and by the time I find it it's often too late. Gyro works from absolutely any starting position.

Re: Poll: Is Zelda: Wind Waker's Hero Called 'Cat-Eye Link'?

skeets

It's in quotes, I'm pretty sure that's to show that it wasn't an official name.

The original Japanese says:

"通称「猫目リンク」" meaning, "commonly known as cat-eye link". So it wasn't an official name.

Doing a google search on "猫目リンク" does bring up many results with toon link. So I think it was a common way to refer to Toon link in Japan before the official "toon link" name was added in Smash. (he's called toon link in smash in Japan too)

Re: UK Government Warns It "Will Not Hesitate To Consider Legislation" Against Loot Boxes

skeets

I can't believe anyone is actually supporting loot boxes here. What good do they bring our society?

It should be the parent's responsibility? That's a really lame excuse, and it doesn't solve the issue at all.

2 solid reasons loot boxes (and the like) should be illegal:

(1) To remove social pressure for kids to have a gambling addiction. (Can you really be against this?)

Saying "parents should just stop their kids" is not a valid solution at all. It doesn't stop the kids from wanting to do it because their friends are doing it. That social pressure is what starts the addiction. And parents saying "no" can be counter-productive... it can also feed that addiction because it becomes the "forbidden fruit".

(2) The existence (and major success) of loot boxes in the gaming industry... can you honestly believe that's a good influence for fun, creative games to be made in the future? The more successful these loot boxes are, the more future games are doomed to be addicting, but not fun.

The general population seems to be forgetting the difference between those two terms lately... but "addicting" and "fun" are very different concepts, and often polar opposites. The more loot boxes are financially successful and the gaming industry leans into them, the more the games produced become more "addicting" and less "fun".

This 2nd reason may be less important to law makers, but should be very important to gamers.

Re: Nintendo Says The Ratio Of Switch Online Expansion Pack Users Is "Especially High" In The US

skeets

If the original Japanese had been posted, the mistake in the unofficial translation would have been obvious.

The official translation is spot on, a fairly direct & literal translation.

I was going to say that even Google Translate could have told you the mistake, but it appears the original text has mixed in "radicals that look like kanji" that confuses the translator. Not sure if that's on purpose or just a mistake, but definitely weird.

Like, Google Translator fails to translate "⽶国" (found in original text), but can translate "米国" just fine (don't try to find the visual difference in the characters, they're exactly the same).

Re: Talking Point: Remember When People Thought Switch Would Fail?

"Which of these concerns still bother you?"

Where is the "processing power" option?!?! No one else disappointed that the Switch OLED wasn't the Switch Pro?

I don't even need 4k... I just want first party games to run at 60 fps. Or at least never drop below 30 (looking at you, Korok village in BOTW). But 60 would be really great.
