Re: Matters Of Import: Fire Emblem (Sort Of) Exists On The Sony PlayStation

Ah, good old TRS. I had some fun with this a while back, but I stopped once the horrid translation reared its ugly head. Fortunately, the translation team has picked up an editor who is working on improving the quality of the translation, so we should hopefully see a release of that sometime soon-ish!

Also, if anyone here has played and like TRS or Berwick Saga, you may be excited to hear that Kaga is currently working on a doujin game using SRPG Studio. So, that's exciting.

Re: Super Smash Bros. Will Have A Single Player Campaign

Subspace Emissary was pretty wretched. The story was horrid because nothing was explained, and the gameplay was tedious. I'm glad it's gone, because if SSE is Sakurai's idea of a good story, then it's better that he spend his time on more fruitful efforts.

@Red_XIII
You mean Awakening? Well, for one the story is garbage. The enemies are all cartoonishly evil, the Valm arc had nothing to do with anything, and the Avatar is a stupid self-insert Mary Sue. All the characters are one note and annoying. There's little to no actual character development throughout the game. As for the gameplay, on the harder difficulties whether you are successful or not basically boils down to whether or not you get lucky. Oh, and the Avatar is broken as all hell. Let's not even get into buyable Rescue and Nosferatu.

Keep in mind this is coming from an FE fan. I've played almost every game in the series(haven't played FE1 or 10 yet).

@Tsuchinoko
Both of the people who I responded two did not simply say "I thought Awakening was great, and IMO it should have won." Read through their posts again. I'm not reacting to people liking the game, I'm reacting to people acting shocked that Awakening didn't win.

And I did shoot down other games. I noted that Pokemon X/Y have flaws and aren't objectively great/masterpieces either in one of my earlier posts.

@bizcuthammer
I can easily see why Awakening wouldn't have won(aside from this being a popularity contest). The game is a bit to easy to break, the story is quite weak(especially compared to previous entries in the series), and the characters are all one note and don't undergo any sort of development.

Pokemon X/Y aren't some sort of unrivaled masterpiece either. While in terms of mechanics it's quite good, the story in this generation is generally accepted to be inferior to the 5th gen games.

I'm aware that teenage fanservice is more prevalent in Japan and is more socially acceptable. That doesn't make a difference. They're releasing the game for an international audience, so they should be prepared to deal with the standards and cultural norms of that international audience.

@DarkKirby
You do realize that a review is effectively just an opinion, right? So, if I played the game and the aesthetic legitimately hurt my enjoyment of the game(perhaps all the fanservice made me uncomfortable, which wouldn't be out of the question since as I understand most of the girls in this game are young teenagers), is it really "biased" to put that in my review?

And saying that men are "objectified just as much of women" is a false equivalence because male anatomy is exaggerated for different reasons than female anatomy is.

Re: iPhone Gaming Controller Could Mean "The End Of Nintendo", Claims Investment Site

shinpichu

I guess they've never heard of Android.

Anyway, I don't dispute that video gaming consoles in general are on the way out(PC gaming is getting easier and easier, and console makers are slowly forgetting the advantages that consoles have over PCs), but I don't think it will happen this generation, and I sure as hell don't think that a freaking iPhone gamepad will change that.

@gojiguy
Or it could be that the reason those games got low scores was that the reviewer didn't like them? From what I've heard, SW Chronicles and OW3 Hyper aren't well liked even among Warriors fans.

Re: Toon Link Adventuring Onto Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

shinpichu

@Jazzer94
Well he is a clone, since he takes Link's attacks but puts his own spin (hurhurhur) on things. Though I agree it's not really something to be concerned about. Toon Link being a clone isn't going to stop Sakurai adding this or that character if he feels they're worthy.

Re: Toon Link Adventuring Onto Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

@mamp
The only thing "limiting" about the 3DS is it's processing power, since it's CPU is apparently even slower that the Wii's. the only thing in smash that this could possibly affect is the IC's, since their partner AI eats up a lot of the CPU apparently.
@Snkfiend
None of the well-know Melee Advanced Techniques are glitches. L-Canceling was an intentional gameplay feature that had been around since Smash 64, and Wavedashing was a result of the game's special landing animation working as intended by conserving momentum on landing.

And again, if you don't like playing the game with these techniques, then nobody is forcing you to use them.

Re: Toon Link Adventuring Onto Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

shinpichu

@DarkKirby
OH NO, 1 CLONE CHARACTER! CLEARLY THE ROSTER IS BEING OVERRUN WITH CLONES!

Seriously, it's like some of you people who complain about Smash clones have never even looked at another FG roster. Brawl only had ~4 or 5 clones out of almost 40 characters. Plus, unlike other FGs, all the clones in smash are at least variations on different characters rather than the same character.

Re: Toon Link Adventuring Onto Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

shinpichu

@Snkfiend
Oh, I'm sorry. Did somebody force you to play Smash competitively? No? Then you shouldn't give a s*** how other people play the game.

Anyway, if a SSB4 mode would have been anything like SSE then I'm glad they removed it. SSE was garbage, and it took time away from other parts of development. Hopefully the removal of SSE means they have more time to work on stuff, including other 1P modes like Break the Targets.

Re: Toon Link Adventuring Onto Smash Bros. Wii U and 3DS

@Snkfiend
1) Not all of the characters that have been revealed were guaranteed to return. Toon link in particular had a lot of people expecting him to be cut., as did Olimar to a lesser extent.
2)It gives Sakurai a chance to show off any changes made to the characters since Brawl.
3)This is the same way things happened with the Brawl Dojo. IIRC after the initial trailer there wasn't another newcomer reveal for several months.

Anyway, this confirms that Sakurai doesn't feel the need to follow a "one reveal per month" pattern and instead reveals characters coinciding with important dates(i.e. anniversaries, launch days).
