@triforcepower73
That would have required Motion Plus to be released right at launch or bilt in to the Wii remote, neither of which would have been practical because it would have increased the price of the Wii. Also, the Zelda team would basically have to have never worked on TP at all.
I hate it when people who have no understanding of how game development works try and pretend like they do.
And anyway, there was never any real doubt that there would be new characters. The original quote that everyone went nuts over was basically Sakurai saying he wants to do more than just fill a quota for new characters.
@Onett I'm sorry if I took what you said the wrong way, but I see way too much hate from people all over the newer designs just because the aren't gen 1/2/3/whatever generation was their first.
And saying you have your nostalgia goggles taken off is different from actually doing it.
@LordOtakWiiU Exactly. People bashing the newer designs are just caught up in they're own nostalgia - it's not like EVERY one of the original 151 was a winner.
Sad, but hardly surprising. Printed media are dying out, and almost every other significant gaming magazine has gone under. Maybe it will survive as an online publication, but who knows.
Wait a sec, have RBFF 1 & 2 been released yet? I think RB2 would be released before MotW.
I own RB2 (on NeoCD) and was looking to get the FF collections on PS2, but I may get this one.
Edit: calling this just an "upgrade" to RB1 is doing this game a disservice. RB1 used a 3-plane system, while RBS uses the older 2-plane system. Just fyi.
@TheDreamingHawk Totally agree with you on the GBA vs SNES thing. The GBA versions of SMW and Yoshi's island are far more comfortable to play than the original SNES versions.
Come back and say that when you get a degree in composition. You can't just make new music, you need to put time into it or it'll turn out to be garbage.
Also, this is and RPG, so the things like music often contribute to the experience, so changing the music might rub some fans the wrong way.
Well, this is...underwhelming. I don't really see anything here that I hadn't already guessed.
As for Namco characters, everyone seems to be treating Pac-Man as an inevitability, but I honestly hope Lloyd from Tales of Symphonia gets in instead. He's got a lot more natural moveset potential that Pac-Man does imho.
Edit: The 2013 release date is BS; We get it 2014 at the earliest.
I want Nintendo to get in on the next "X" crossover (Project X Zone sequel). And am I the only one who kinda wants to see Pokemon do a crossover with Fire Emblem?
@Hyperstar96 From Wikipedia:"The Latin adverb sic ("thus"; in full: sic erat scriptum, "thus was it written") added immediately after a quoted word or phrase (or a longer piece of text), indicates that the quote has been transcribed exactly as found in the original source, complete with any erroneous spelling or other nonstandard presentation. The usual purpose is to inform the reader that any errors or apparent errors in the transcribed material do not arise from transcription errors, and the errors have been repeated intentionally, i.e., that they are reproduced exactly as set down by the original writer or printer."
The only Namco characters that have any business being in Smash are Pac-man, Kalas(Baiten Kaitos), or Lloyd Irving. NOBODY was asking for Tekken(or SoulCalibur) until it was announced that Namco was working on the game.
People, this isn't MUGEN: it's a Ninendo crossover, so only characters with significant ties to Ninendo should be in the game.
Anyway, this pretty much confirms what I already suspected. NB people are just being brought in as code monkeys to get the game out in a reasonable time and take some weight off Sakurai and his team.
Digital downloads should not cost the same as a retail game. There's a lot more that goes into the price of a physical game than just the "value" of a game. Things like manufacturing cost, licensing fees, shipping, etc. With all that gone, there's literally no reason for people to choose downloads over retail purchases.
People will start buying digital instead of retail when companies stop charging the same for both. Gaming prices are broken anyway(seriously, $60 should NOT be the default price for games), no need way your broken pricing model is going to work for digital downloads.
'96 is really the only pre-'98 game worth playing IMHO. '94 and '95 were still struggling a bit with the engine, and '97 doesn't have many characters that '98 doesn't and has practically identical gameplay to '98. '96, meanwhile, has Kasumi Todoh AND the Boss Team(with Geese Frickin' Howard!).
I'd buy this, but I already own the Orochi Saga collection. Release '99, 2000, or 2002 and then we'll talk.
IIRC they can't release the first one because they had some kind of deal going on with Microsoft, even the PS3 didn't get that one. If you must play them, parts 1 & 2 are available on Steam, and IIRC the DRM on the Steam versions isn't that extravagant.
Edit: Not only are they on steam, but they are both ten bucks right now(15 for some ME2 special edition).
Pachter is usually right about business stuff...except when he opens his mouth and tries to talk about Nintendo. If people like him were in charge at Nintendo(or any other company), most of what has happened to the gaming industry(i.e. broadened demographics, higher focus on multimedia, motion controls, which were all generally good things) would never have happened and the industry would be even more stagnant than it is now.
Also, are people really that surprised that the increase in roster size will be less than previous games? Think about it: most of the big names are already accounted for, and if they did add 10-15 new characters, it would mostly wind up being a lot of B-listers and obscure characters that few have heard of.
This article was mostly fine, but I'm offended at that little remark about hardcore(no quotes) Melee fans. Seriously, not only is it insulting to question their dedication to the game, but it was also very insulting to boil down hardcore complaints to just missing a few glitches. People had far more problems with the reduced game speed, increased focus on luck, and reduced hitstun than they did with the removal of any specific technique or exploit.
Making a statement like this is only more likely to get their systems hacked. I love how the industry has learned NOTHING about hackers and pirates in the last few years.
You want to stop hackers? Let them run Linux on your machine. That's all most of the talented hackers want - to be able to use every machine they own like a PC. When companies don't let them, they hack their machines so they can do it anyway, opening the door for pirates in the process. Want proof? The PS3 went basically unhacked for years - not because of great security, but because of the OtherOS feature. The floodgates didn't open until Sony removed that feature for whatever reason.

Re: Serve Up Some Pixels For Breakfast With The NES Toaster
I'd buy it. Except I can't, because my dorm doesn't let us have toasters.
Actuall, someove did the reverse of this a while back(an NES that looked like a toaster).
Re: Meet The Man Who Brought Nintendo To America
I thought Donkey Kong happened because Nintendo needed to repurpose unwanted Radar Scope machines that had been shipped to the US.
Re: Review: Metal Slug X (Wii Virtual Console / Neo Geo)
Pretty cool game, but I already own it.

Re: Feature: In Defence of Super Mario Sunshine
Super Mario Sunshine was my first 3D Mario game, and I still love it.
Re: Intrepid Programmer Brings Super Mario Bros. to Atari 2600
Yeah, while I admit it's technically impressive, this really doesn't look playable. At all.
edit: If I had to hazard a guess, maybe he's pressing up to jump and tapping the button to shoot fire. But who knows.
