Re: Pinball Arcade Coming To 3DS and Wii U

shinobi88

Farsight is awesome. Real pinball tables are far superior to the fake ones offered by Zen Studios, IF you were old enough to get the feel of playing them in real life. This Kickstarter campaign is more about helping out Farsight's cause to save old pinball tables from extinction. Worth your $10.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

@RR529 , PLEASE use your brain before you speak. These 3DSWare games you speak of like Colors and Corridors, are the EPITOME of nerdy and uber casual. I want hardcore games. And VC games are almost always hardcore bc they made games harder back then. And I KNOW New Super Mario Bros 2 is casual bc Ninty said players of all skill levels can play, aka no challenge. Same as King of Pirates and evry other new 3DS game. The Vita defines hardcore gaming on a handheld. Lots of 1st and 3rd person action games. And games just look cooler on Vita across the board, like Escape Plan. Whereas Crush 3D had to be nerdified and kiddy-fied b4 it could come to 3DS. It's ok to be a child or nerd. Just don't kid yourself

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

Nintendo is not dumb. They cater to their target audience. And 3DS's biggest demographic is kids and nerds. What do kids and nerds like? Puzzles, RPG's, and casual games. So if you're not a nerd or child like me, then you'd be disappointed that Project X Zone is a turn-based RPG, or that there are no VC games (bc kids never played em so its not their main interest) for SIX weeks, or not get excited about New Super Mario Bros. 2 bc it's a clone of the casual original, and the fact that there aren't any 1st person shooters...at all. That's why I'm getting a Vita.

Re: Nintendo Download: 26th April 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

SIX straight weeks without a 3DS virtual console game? A month and a half without a single one? That as they say, tears it. My plan all along has been to save up money and wait until E3 of this year to choose between the 3DS and Vita and splurge on games. But this seals the deal. 3DS has bowed out of the competition. So what if Ninty releases a 3DS VC game next week? They could go another SIX WEEKS without one. And now Sony is almost ready to bring a huge lineup of PS1 classics to Vita. Sony improves, 3DS declines. I've lived through every era of handhelds. Do retro games mean more to me than modern ones? Not necessarily. But they are in the same ballpark. It would be stupid to think one new system could trump all the former system's combined.

Re: Master of Darkness Swooping to Virtual Console

shinobi88

One of the most exciting virtual console action games this far. Excellent graphics, something that wasn't too uncommon on the GG. It was an extremely powerful little handheld. Able to port over Gunstar Heroes from Genesis almost perfectly except for the loss of one level.

Re: Nintendo Download: 12th April 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

WHAT A JOKE! 4 straight weeks of no VC? 5 straight weeks? Name the coolest features of the 3DS: 1) 3D, 2) Virtual Console. So the 2nd coolest feature is non-existant. WOW.

THERE AREN'T EVEN ANY DECENT RETRO COMPILATIONS ON 3DS OR DS. So on the Vita you can download Sega Genesis Collection with 30 games or Capcom Arcade Classics, plus they've got Pinball Arcade and Zen Pinball 2 with no launch for those on 3DS anytime soon. Vita's library is suddenly far superior. Am I supposed to wait 3 years for Smash Bros. 3DS? I don't think so

Re: Add Tennis Balls to the List of Things Goombas Hate

shinobi88

Hitting the ball against the TV is one of the coolest things I've ever seen, it reminds me of the ending scene in the Wiz when they unveiled Mario Bros. 3 for the 1st time. Hopefully it's not just the 1st two levels.

That being said, the core tennis mechanic having good controls and a good level of challenge will be the ultimate thing to decide my purchase

Re: Nintendo Download: 5th April 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

QUESTION: How many people does it take to complain enough that a light turns on in Nintendo's head?? Trick question. It won't happen.

We want VC games EVERY week. Preferably a couple. 3 straight weeks w/out is not acceptable. Makes me want to go play a Vita.

The ONLY 3DS game they released isn't even a game. You draw and color. It's an app! Why don't I just get an Ipad!!

Re: More Gorgeous Epic Mickey 3DS Screenshots Revealed

shinobi88

@SanderEvers, it is drawn 2D like Wario for Wii. So the only thing here that is an epic fail is your comment. You really gave away your youth by mentioning Skylander's. Didn't have to be Professor Layton to figure that out, btw. For one, Skylander's didn't have top-end graphics and for two it was targeted at little kids, Buy a Sega Genesis off eBay and discover the wonderful world of 2D gaming that you missed out on.

Re: Namco, Capcom and SEGA Secret Countdown Starts

shinobi88

@kurtbro900, Because they live in Japan. And 3DS is by far the highest selling system in Japan currently. Next question

There's also the possibility that it doesn't come to the West. So there's really not a lot to get xcited about until they make they give actual details.

Re: Namco, Capcom and SEGA Secret Countdown Starts

shinobi88

90% probability it's a fighting game. A couple reasons for that:

1.) Of all the characters who were represented by the chromosomes in the teaser, none looked to represent Sonic or Mega Man. Which all but eliminates the possibility of the absolute best way these 3 could collaborate, aka, a 2D or 3D action-adventure game where you could play as characters from each studio.

2.) That seems to be all Japanese companies think about. Between 3DS & Vita, we've already seen Street Fighter 4, Tekken, Street Fighter X Tekken, Marvel vs. Capcom, Mortal Kombat, Dead or Alive, and Super Smash Bros.

But...there's always that 10% chance it could be something unique and awesome

Re: Shining Force and Defenders of Oasis Rated for 3DS VC

shinobi88

DOES anyone know how many Sega Genesis (or Mega Drive) games have been released for the DS family of systems in their 8 year history? ... 5

A whopping 5. Sonic 1-3 & Sonic & Knuckles in the Sonic Classic Collection for DS and Earthworm Jim for DSiWare. 5 games from one of the best sytems of all-time. 5 games from a system with hundreds of original games in its vast library.

Does it make sense to anyone else for Sega to release a Genesis Collection for the 3DS?? I mean, there hasn't been any hint of bringing 16 bit systems to the 3DS VC, even though they can port GBA games. So it has to be Sega just not bothering to do it. I guess they hate money.

Re: Shining Force and Defenders of Oasis Rated for 3DS VC

shinobi88

These are good games no doubt based on their 8.8 and 8.0 GameFaqs scores. But theyre just not my speed. It DOES show one positive for me: Sega is continuing to bring GG games to 3DS.

I'll get officially geeked up when I see Streets of Rage, Gunstar Heroes, and Dynamite Headdy

Re: N-Space Would "Love to Work" on a New Geist Title

shinobi88

Color me interested. I love spooks and spirits. DESPITE the fact that N-Space never made a great DS game. And DESPITE the fact that Heroes of Ruin has ugly character models. In fairness to N-Space, I'm not into RPGs and it looks like they've created a world akin to World of Warcraft and the character designs are really cool, so Ruin could be an awesome game...if you like RPGs

Re: Two Code of Princess Trailers Fight to the Fore

shinobi88

Here's a trailer for a 3DS beat 'em up that is for sure coming to North America: http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=174675.

The colored brawling sections of Johnny Kung Fu have seriously limited potential. Because even though you can jump into the background, your character can only move on the right and left plane. EVERY great beat 'em up you can think, the character could move on the up and down plane as well as the left and right. From the earliest like Double Dragon and River City Ransom, to the 16 bit era, Final Fight and Streets of Rage, to Guardian Heroes, you could move up and down.

The secret is that when you can move on the up and down plane as well, it adds a near infinite number of ways you can approach a situation. Just left and right gets repetitive. Look at Thor for Nintendo DS. It had gorgeous sprites and a large assortment of moves, but every single person who played it said it was repetitive. Because you could only move left and right!

That being said, the beat em up sections could be decent, while the Game N Watch style sections of Johnny Kung Fu could be incredibly awesome.

Re: Two Code of Princess Trailers Fight to the Fore

shinobi88

I wasn't ticked off at you...ok a lil for giving me a glimpse of hope it would come to NA. Being a hardcore gamer, who also loves retro games (which describes a big chunk of American gamers), this is my #1 3DS game aside from Shinobi. I sincerely doubt that I'll ever get to play it though.

Re: Rhythm Thief Slides Back to July in North America

shinobi88

I'm changing my mind about this. The gameplay and cutscenes look top notch. I'll move it near the top of my list so long as the reviews are good. But what I would really like to see is a 1st person shooter. You know, the #1 most popular gaming genre in America? I didn't just make that up, I saw it in a Game Informer poll.

I'll take any 1st-person shooter. Conduit. Metroid Prime Hunters. Call of Duty. HALO. Anything.

Am I the only one who thinks its incredibly weird that there hasn't been a single word or rumor about a new 3DS 3rd-person or 1st-person action game since the circle pad pro came out?? The only reason for the circle pad pro is to enhance 3rd person and 1st person action games. Yet, not a single one announced. Methinks a redesigned 3DS w/ dual sticks is guaranteed at E3 this year, and a couple 1st person shooter announcements to go w/ it.

Re: Mutant Mudds Demo Coming This Week

shinobi88

If you don't play a game because it's hard, you are NOT FULLY ENJOYING LIFE. Did you know that during the days of the original NES, every game was incredibly hard? But everyone who was a kid during those times looks back on those games fondly, even though they probably never beat them. Because the main point of a game isn't to beat it. The point is to have fun. And games like Mutant Mudds are amazingly fun. A lot of my favorite games of all-time, I've never been able to beat!! But I keep coming back to them year after year. NOTHING adds replay value like difficulty. It should be the #1 thing people look for in a game. Even if you can only beat the 1st level of a good game, it's fun! Enjoy it. Play it over and over.

Re: Epic Mickey on 3DS is a Castle of Illusion Sequel

shinobi88

@sinafela, It's true that WayForward is much better on games they have more time w/, specifically their DSiWare and eShop titles which are always awesome. But since Epic Mickey 2 IS a licensed title, with probably a shorter development time, I'm even more glad DreamRift is on it.

What I want in a retro side-scrolling title is something that feels like one of the great Genesis games. And while all WayForward games look as good or better than the great Genesis games, they don't always play like one. There are a couple factors you NEED to have: gorgeous sprites and detailed backgrounds, suitable difficulty level, suitable length, and solid level design. DreamRift has easily accomplished all 4 of those in both of their releases thus far, while WayForward has only done it in a certain percentage of their games. Thus, I trust DreamRift more. I'm not saying WayForward is bad by any means. Contra 4 may be my all-time favorite DS game. And Batman was a fun game if you weren't looking for a challenge.

Appearance by Scrooge McDuck?? That kicks it up a notch. I thought this game would only focus on the big-time movie releases, which Uncle Scrooge was never in. I'm hoping for an Aladdin or Little Mermaid level myself. I want to draw a dinglehopper.

Btw, here's supposedly a screenshot from the game: <a rel="external" href="http://3dsconnect.com/2012/03/27/first-screenshot-of-epic-mickey-power-of-illusion/.">http://3dsconnect.com/2012/03/27/first-screenshot-of-epic-mickey-power-of-illusion/.</a> Looks like DreamRift isn't letting me down.

Re: Epic Mickey on 3DS is a Castle of Illusion Sequel

shinobi88

DREAMRIFT IS BETTER THAN WAYFORWARD.

I know that's a bold statement. But it's true. While WayForward currently holds a slight edge in terms of graphics, DreamRift is clearly better at game design. Don't just take my word for, look at the facts:

The people behind DreamRift have developed two games, Henry Hatsworth and Monster Tale. Hatsworth received an aggregate critic review score of 82.5% and Tale received a score of 80.6%.

WayForward's games have not had that level of consistency. Shantae 2 was a big hit w/ critics at 86.30%, as was Contra 4 (84.1%), Mighty Switch Force (80%), and Aliens: Infestation (77.8%). But WayForward has more often than not produced average games: Batman Brave and the Bold (74%), Thor (66%), Duck Amuck (65.6%), Where the WIld Things Are (64%), Despicable Me (61.3%), Galactic Taz Ball (60%), and Centipede: Infestation (55%).

WayForward almost always has one major flaw to prevent their games from being perfect. Shantae 2 had a frustrating map system. Mighty Switch Force was too short. Batman was too easy. Taz was tough to control. Centipede was repetitive. WayForward's inconsistency makes me plenty glad that DreamRift is charged w/ crafting this important game.

So...WHO IS DREAMRIFT? Well, details are scarce since they've closed their company website. But I've been following them for a while so I'll fill you in.

DreamRift was founded by Peter Ong and Ryan Pijai. They worked together at EA studios on Henry Hatsworth and the Puzzling Adventure. After that they decided they wanted to start their own studio focusing on retro-styled side-scrollers.

The only game they've managed to push out thus far is Monster Tale, but it's got gorgeous sprites and detailed backgrounds, with great controls and level design. Keep in mind that was essentially only the 2nd game the team has worked on together and if nothing else their graphics engine should continue to make huge strides. I wouldn't be suprised if Power of Illusion surpasses the looks of even WayForward's greatest graphical achievements.

(I should note that WayForward is the current king of eShop games. DreamRift is superior at making retail games.)

Re: Adventure Time is Coming to DS

shinobi88

Let's not forget that WayForward has blown some golden opportunities. How about Batman the Brave and the Bold being too easy, too short, and too slow? I suspect similar results for another game based off of a cartoon.

Re: GameStop to Sell 3D Classics: Kid Icarus Too

shinobi88

I don't shop at Gamestop, unless I absolutely have to. Their used games market is destroying parts of the industry. I'm glad I'm the only one w/ enough brain cells to realize that's why a bunch of great games studios that make quality games are forced to down-size or close. Good job people!

Re: There's a Chuck E. Cheese Game Coming to DSiWare

shinobi88

Here's what I found out after doing a lil more research. This is a collection of a bunch of games, not just the 3 mentioned above. Theres a basketball game, and a racing game that's like the old arcade game Super Sprint, and skeeball too if the picture above is accurate. Maybe the best part of all is that you can collect tickets and redeem for prizes. That's a steal for $5. Considering adults aren't allowed in Chuck E. Cheese anymore, this is only way for a kid to be a kid.

Got my deets from this Go Nintendo article: <a rel="external" href="http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=174135">http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=174135</a>

Re: Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion Confirmed for 3DS

shinobi88

The 3DS version has a different developer so it's guaranteed to be different. And Dreamrift has only made side-scrollers in its past, so the 3DS version is 95%+ guaranteed to be a side-scroller. The 3DS is one of the big boys, it has 2 sticks and everything now. It should be able to handle fully 3D games. I love side-scrollers, but I'd like to have the fully 3D version when a series was made to be in 3D. That being said...I'm glad DreamRift is developing this. They are one of my top 3 side-scroller devs for the DS family, along w/ WayForward and Griptonite.

Now does anyone know how we can contact Disney or Nintendo and ask them to release "Mickey's Castle of Illusion" for Game Gear on the 3DS Virtual Console to coincide w/ this?? That game is epic. And it stacks up suprisingly well to the legendary Genesis version as you can see at this link: http://www.sega-16.com/2009/07/side-by-side-castle-of-illusion-genesis-vs-game-gear/

Re: Review: Zombie Slayer Diox (eShop)

shinobi88

Isn't the Japanese name for this "Zombie Diox Suckymuch"? Ive never played so I can't pass judgement for certain. I'm not into gore for the sake of gore so I won't be trying it anytime soon

Re: Feature: The Life and Times of SEGA's Game Gear

shinobi88

I was absolutely blown away when the Game Gear originally came out. Only handheld I had played up to that time was Game Boy and its monochrome color, and along comes GG and it has vibrant colors that make the games look like Genesis games! I still go back and play it and the colors and graffix have aged perfectly.

The GG had a wealth of quality games that rivaled any handheld. A lot of the quality games were licensed games like Mickey's Castle of Illusion, Jurassic Park 3, Aladdin, and Lion King. These games were on the same level of quality as their Genesis counterparts.

There were a lot of RPGs...but I don't play those so I can't say anything.

Gotta have a killer puzzle game to be considered a quality handheld. DS had Meteos. Game Boy had the king of them all, Tetris. GG had Columns. It's in the same class as those two. It's very similar to Tetris in mechanic and style.

And last but def. not least, it had some awesome Sega 1st party games. All the Sonic & Tails games were decent. Shinobi 1 & 2 are legendary. Streets of Rage and Gunstar Heroes are faithful ports, and Ristar offers an original adventure that is the same level of quality as its console counterpart.

THE END...for now?

Re: Nintendo Download: 22nd March 2012 (North America)

shinobi88

I'm usually happy if they have one DSIware and one Eshop game to choose from, not that I always choose one, I just like choices. But UFO is a generic company so I'm no longer officially counting their games...XCEPT for Johnny Kung Fu. Please let them figger out how to make that a killer game

Re: Rumour: Epic Mickey 2 Heading for 3DS

shinobi88

So the big boy version of this game is a co-op musical. Not sure how that works exactly. But def. no telling what the 3DS version is all about. The only clue is that it has something to do w/ 2D.

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

shinobi88

Pretty obvious the majority feel this game deserves above a 6. Just a nice clear example of the insanely high bias towards only Nintendo on this site. What would you expect from a site titled "Nintendo Life"??

The moral of the story is all sites have at least a little bias. So it is the opposite of smart to make your total view of a game's quality based on reviews from 1 site. You should find 3 or 4 sites that you really like and combine the scores of each. Or...just let Metacritic do it for you. FYI, Sonic Triple Trouble has a 73% percent rating from users on Gamefaqs and an 83% user rating on Gamespot.

It might sound like I dislike this site. Quite the opposite, it's one of my favorites. The articles are always interesting and fun and the message boards are always lively. Just take all reviews w/ a grain of salt.

Re: Rumour: Epic Mickey 2 Heading for 3DS

shinobi88

Ok people, let's talk details. There were a whopping 275 people at work on Epic Mickey. That translated to decent showing, aka about a 70% fan and critic score on Metacritic. But Disney is stepping their game up for the sequel. An unfathomable 700 people are at work on Epic Mickey 2. That's more people than worked on pretty much any game you can think of. But that doesn't mean there are 700 people at work on the 3DS version. Probably more like 7. Again, I'm not especially optimistic until I get some more deets.

But don't get me wrong Epic Mickey is a concept that gets me uber-geeked. I mean, how many other Wii-xclusive titles were cool enough to score a Game Informer cover? You can count the list on 2 fingers.

Re: Rumour: Epic Mickey 2 Heading for 3DS

shinobi88

Epic Mickey is a system seller. Every sentient being in the universe loves Mickey in the bowels of their heart. Can't believe this is coming to 3DS!!

Wait...it's kinda coming to 3DS. The 3DS version is supposedly 2D. Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge fanboy of side-scrollers, but Epic Mickey is one game I'd want to play in its truest form. It's happened too many times in the past where a console games comes to the DS family as a side-scroller and it's just a half-baked attempt to score a lil cash. Of course, it's only speculation at this point...

(Wouldn't mind have Castle of Illusion as an unlockable)

Re: Review: Sonic the Hedgehog: Triple Trouble (3DS eShop / Game Gear)

shinobi88

ARE THERE ANY GEMS ON THE GAME GEAR?? Young Padawan, you have much to learn.

  • First and foremost are the Shinobi games. They're original games that feature gameplay just as solid as the Genesis titles and epic scores done by the same gent who did the soundtrack for Revenge of Shinobi. Shinobi GG 2 is superior to the first because the already awesome gameplay is perfected and the soundtrack is completely original, as opposed to part 1 which had some tunes from Revenge mixed in.
  • Columns & Super Columns on GG are my second favorite puzzle games behind Tetris & Tetris DX.
  • Sonic Drift 2 is a great lil kart racer and it has an xcellent soundtrack (something you'll find true of most every Sega produced GG game, just check out this mesmerizing track from Sonic Triple Trouble: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dot0iGpUL5I).
  • Faithful ports of Streets of Rage 1 & 2 and Gunstar Heroes should make their way onto the VC...hopefully
  • There are little known Ninja Gaiden and Mega Man games for GG that should be fanboy candy to anyone who's into those series.
  • I prefer the GG version of Mickey's Castle of Illusion to the Genesis version, but alas, I don't think we'll see that on the VC anytime in this millenium
  • I'm not into RPGs but I hear the Shining Force GG games are great

Re: Johnny Kung Fu for eShop Goes All Game & Watch

shinobi88

The art style for this is excellent, with a lil Johnny Bravo flavor to it. But UFO hasn't xactly earned my trust yet. Still, the side-scrolling beat em up genre is almost non-xistant in the DS family of systems so this game is def welcome. I just hope they realize the key to a good beat em up is "attack + jump attack" and not the current en vogue combo of "light attack + heavy attack" which are the XACT same thing

Re: Reggie Also Presenting Nintendo Direct Tomorrow

shinobi88

The Big N had a major press conference last year, in December I think, and it was a MAJOR letdown since there was no news for the West. But this appears to be the real deal as they're including us in the action this time.

There's one major bit of news Ninty is dying to hand out: a hardware redesign that has the 2nd analog stick built in. Aka, the 3DSi. Methinks something that big will wait for E3

Re: Reggie Also Presenting Nintendo Direct Tomorrow

shinobi88

Xciting stuff!! But this is clearly to throw off some of the buzz of the Vita launch. And the Big N should do something. B/c the difference between Nintendo handhelds and Sony handhelds has always been quality vs. quantity. Aka, Nintendo pushes out more games while Sony has much fewer but very high quality.

The thing is, the Playstation Vita is getting a lot of games put out for it. And since it is such a powerful device, it's easier to push out quality games on the Vita than on the 3DS. So as the situation stands now, the 3DS over its 1st year has 12 games that score 80% or higher on Metacritic, and the Vita has 5 games that score 80% or higher on Metacritic. The Vita hasn't even been officially released yet!!

Best case scenario, instead of just owning one and forcing yourself to buy some games you don't really want, own both systems and get the games you REALLy want
