Virtual Console returns to Wii this week with a fighting classic, plus there's some original 3DS Download Software and DSiWare too. Here's what you can look forward to downloading later today.
Wii Virtual Console
Super Street Fighter II (Genesis, SEGA, 800pts) — The 16-bit scrapper reaches North America, complete with online play. You can read our Super Street Fighter II review to help you decide if it's worth fighting for.
3DS Download Software
Block Factory (Enjoy Gaming, $3.99) — Nice to see a simultaneous release for this puzzle game creator, which pretty much lets you make up the rules as you go along. Check out our Block Factory First Impressions while waiting for our upcoming review.
DSiWare
Chuck E. Cheese's Arcade Room (UFO Interactive, 500pts) — Get the experience of being in a real Chuck E. Cheese's without actually going — sounds too good to be true, right? It's real, as this collection of minigames proves. We'll put it to the taste test soon.
That's all, folks. Anything for you this week?

YES YES YES!!! Hadoooooooken!!!! ("SAAAY-GUUUH!")
STILL no 3DS VC game? Are you guys nuts!?! SO angry it's not even funny anymore.
I wanna try Block Factory. I like block games (Tetris, etc.) very much
Oh, and no GB games...wah wah wah
I like Street Fighter but I gotta pass on this one.
I was hoping for the Rhythm Thief demo to hit NA this week. Nothing for me this week.
week after week...saying there's no 3DS VC game is like saying the PSVita's struggling in Japan. It's Groundhog Day.
@3DS_Supporter Is there a 3DSWare game? If so, there is no 3DS VC game that week.
Dem's da rules.
Well, then they need to quit coming out with generic puzzler 3DSware games then because I want some damn VC. That's why I bought this system in the first place. Been disappointed for what seems like months now.
@Bass_X0 I didn't think there would be one today. I think that's enough 3DSWare for awhile
Yeah, at a release of one a week, they're bound to run out of available 3DSWare games to release soon. Kirby's Block Ball should be released next week.
@NintyFan Yeah same here. For a couple months now I've been watching for those, but been disapointed week after week. I don't even expect them anymore. Even though I'm not really a fighting game person (besides Smash Bros if that counts), that Street Fighter game actually looks decent.......so why do they give us a Chuckie Cheese game but don't give us Wario or KI:M&M:? I really don't understand these guys.
hmm...I wonder what a small, eshop version of a Pikmin game would be like.
I really thought Kirby's Block Ball would come out this week. Oh well.
I'm starting to think Nintendo of America is convinced that 3DS VC games won't sell well with a younger audience or something. That's the only explanation I can think of as to why they're consistently ignored like this. It's gotta be a money/marketing issue.
where is super street fighter 2 turbo
and europe?
I guess since when they put those 3 GG titles on (about mid March?), they must of thought that will last us several weeks, so Nintendo could focus more on 3DSWare.
@grumblebuzzz Oh I'm sure they are posting losses for putting one of their own games on their own service
And my money goes to my PS3 again.
No 3ds vc
Guess ill get mario land 2
A part of me actually hopes that Chuck E. Cheese game is good.
@LztheBlehBird Not losses, but maybe they're not making money on them or something. I know that when they do release VC games, their Facebook posts are littered with comments like "I don't want these Gameboy games! The graphics are ugly and they're black and white!" mostly by 11-16 year olds and stuff like that. All I know is after that one little splurge of Game Gear games a month or so ago, they've not looked back. Besides Colors 3D, the eShop has been in block puzzle hell ever since.
Horray! A VC game I want. Now I gotta put some points on my Wii shop account. Couple that with Darkstalkers 3 released on PSN and I'd say its been a good week for downloads.
I'm perfectly happy with this weeks selection. I already have to much as it is to do. I'm sure more interesting content will come in time, but in the mean time I'll be finishing my other VC and 3DS Ware games as well as Tales of the Abyss.
It's the same with us aussies this week only difference is I have KI: Myths n Monsters gives me time to finish Sonic TT and Zelda this weekend.
@BONHOMME-7HEURE It was never released on a 16-bit system so won't make it to Virtual Console. I know there's VC Arcade but let's face it, that's deader than 3DS Virtual Console
Retro City Rampage is in Nintendo Power this month... could it be coming this year?
@grumblebuzzz You bought a 3DS in the first place because of the virtual console? Are you kidding me? Why wouldn't you get a Game Boy... the system's entire library is already at your disposal...
@James talk about pouring salt on the wound haha
Yeah hoping RCR and La Mulana will be out within the next couple of months.
@bahooney The prospect of having Game Boy and Game Boy Color games (which I had never played before) on one system is the thing that excited me about the 3DS initially, yes. Why is that so hard to believe? And I didn't just buy a Game Boy or GBC because of the backlighting issues. I'd rather play them on a system that's backlit because I can see them better.
The "rule" that NoA doesn't release 3DS VC and 3DS Downloads on the same day is silly. It happened for awhile last year and I was hoping when Punch-Out and Fun Fun Minigolf came out on the same day last month people would drop that silly theory. If I read the Coming Soon section in the eshop right, Kirby's Block Ball will be coming the same day as a 3DS Download, so hopefully people start dropping it then. It really irks me that people think this is a thing that is true.
Grumblebuzzz what games are you into? surely there must be titles you haven't downloaded yet.
@grumblebuzzz - I agree about the backlighting in the older systems but there are 2 versions of the Gameboy Advance SP, one has excellent backlighting, exactly like the 3DS. That's the one I have. It's the model that says improved backlighting on the box cover (something like that)...
I've pretty much downloaded everything I'd want that's available. I mean I'm not sitting here saying "I'LL SELL MY 3DS IF NEW VC DOESN'T COME" or anything, because I do enjoy it all around the board, but it's a little disheartening to see a new block puzzle or mini golf game released every week and no awesome retro goodness.
@SteveW I've been thinking about picking up a GBA SP off of eBay or something. I used to have one back in the day, but it got stolen.
Yeah, Nintendo has the largest retro catalog in the world and this is all they can do? disappointing... when VC was announced for Wii years ago I thought I'd be able to download all my favorites but most still aren't available.
For anyone wondering about La Mulana for wiiware, it looks like Nicalis really dropped the ball on that. Their complete silence about it for the past 4 month shows just how much they lack professionalism as publishers. Even Nigoro currently have no idea what's going on since they gave the final version to NoA and NoE, and didn't hear anything from Nicalis at all.
At least Nigoro wisened up and dropped Nicalis for the PC version and are publishing it themselves.
http://la-mulana.com/en/blog/report-2.html
So in all, Nicalis is now another publisher to add on my boycott list from now on.
no 2ds virtual console ? oh well. this should be the kind of thing that is a weekly event. i mean, there are tons of nes, gameboy, advance, snes games out there waiting to be replayed, or discovered.
If they could be cheaper, then i would be a virtual console whore. but at 5$ the game, nope. Theyre oldies, which already made theyre share of money, which i only wanna play for nostalgia and curiosity's sake.
2 dollars, i would be lots of them. 5$, then i simply dont buy them, or only pick up the gems out of the crap.
Hey everybody they did add a 3ds virtual console game.they added Kirby's block ball when they did the update!
$5 for a Chuck E Cheese game? Shouldn't that be free, or 100 TICKETS max?
Isn't Super Street Fighter II published by Capcom, not SEGA?
Street Fighter with online? Cool! A create-your-own block puzzler? Cool! Anything by UFO Entertainment? Not cool.
@BlockPunch I think Sega publised this version, though, which is not the same as the original Genesis version.
Wouldn't be cool if you could win (swap tickets for download code) that Chuck E Cheese game at a real Chuck E Cheese?
A VC game is always welcome.
For europeans gamers:
Do you recommend this SSFII? I don´t like the sound and graphics but it is online.
I don't get it. Why put Kirby's Block Ball in the Kirby section, tell us it's coming soon, and not release it this week?
Chuck E. Cheese's Arcade Room
Best thing since Fire Placing.
@Bass_X0 - Of course, Japan is an exception since Nintendo is a Japanese company and they only care about themselves and gamers in their home.
Looking foward to a Block Factory review. The game has me interested but not enough for me to purchase it at the moment.
@JumpMades
What about "enjoy your massage?" XD
Aside from SFII, this update sucks. But this is Nintendo, so what did you expect?
@wariofan- its correct more often than its wrong, so wah for you
1) It was better when known as Showbiz Pizza.
2) The best part isn't the games. It's the animatronic show.
3) I am angry and nostalgic at the same time.
Still waiting for those Game Boy games the rest of the world already has.
@BONHOMME-7HEURE SSFII:The New Challengers has Turbo options. I'm not sure about the Online mode but in the regular game, at the GAME START title screen, just hit Right on the D-pad and you will see stars being added - these are your Turbo levels. There aren't as many Turbo levels in this game but there are (IIRC) four or five of them. xP
@LztheBlehBird - Really? Are you going to be that ignorant?
Why do you comment every week trying to rub it into peoples faces who want GB/GBC virtual console games? Many people are interested in getting these games, and just because you're not doesnt mean you should act so childishly about it. People have a right to complain as it's been months since we have gotten a 3DS VC game. It's not all about you.
I will get Super Street Fighter II, I've been playing SFII since 1991, I really want to play this game online
Nothing for me this week. Hopefully this Tuesday CN will have some games that I want to spend my coins on.
Looks like a mediocre week for us 3DS owners. Of course, Block Factory could get good reviews, and prove my statement wrong, but it LOOKS average.
I love how people are complaining when good software like Colors! 3D, Ketzal's Corridors, and 3D Classics: Kid Icarus came out over the past few weeks. I always thought that good software = good week. I quess I was wrong, as people are saying eShop has been a dud for weeks. What do they think makes a good week, a bad game?
@warioswoods: I concur. Showbiz Pizza was just huge arcade when I was a kid. After it became Chuck E. Cheese, it turned into an indoor jungle gym.
@mshope10 Nope its on the "Coming Soon" Section for 2 weeks now
I want Capcom to add Street Fighter GB
And I want Nintendo to add The Legend of Zelda Oracles for GBC
I like how Nintendo adds games 1 Good Game a Week.
However some people are too ignorant to see that it is usually 1 good game a week making 4 good games a month (Roughly) and 52 Good Games a year
@Kyloctopus, so what? Does releasing one good game a week, make that one game bad? Nope. It's still a good game, and thus a good week.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love for them to release more than one good game a week (VC would be great as well), but that doesn't change the fact that the one 3DSWare we get each week generally have been good, making good weeks.
RetroCityRampage and LaMulana should just come out on 3DS or wait and add Wii U functionality.
@Geonjaha And I have the right to criticize complaints and ridicule those who complain thank you very much I don't recall ever acting "childish" about anything considering people of ALL ages ridicule those they don't particularly care for.
And it's not all about me? RHYTHM HEAVEN FEVER LIED TO ME!!!
Well, at least Wii owners get something. I'm gonna hold off on getting SSF2 Gen for a while though because I need to balance my money. And since I already have SSF2HDR on PS3, I'm not that desperate for it.
I've really been in the mood to play some Wario Land lately, but NoA seems pretty insistent on holding back any and all VC titles until they run out of 3DSWare. I guess I'll just have to dig out my Wario Land 4 cartridge or replay Shake It! for now.
And I'm not getting my hopes up for La-Mulana for WiiWare anymore. I'll gladly buy it if it ever comes and, for all my ignorance of certain aspects of the industry, I do realize that developing software for WiiWare can be a real pain in the behind, but I'm not really understanding the hold-up at this point.
got block factory and trying to make it into a fun tetris thing, but when you make a name in the game you can only use 5 letters
/me checks review assignments
/me commits suicide
@LztheBlehBird - But what reason have you to continually criticise those you "don't particularly care for"? It's not like people are complaining about one or two weeks of not getting their game, or asking something unreasonable. We're talking about several weeks of no VC games of any sort (GB/GBC/NES/GG - thats a lot of platforms) with no announcements for future releases for the most part - and we're not even 1 year in to the eShop's launch. The fact that you choose to comment on this every week to annoy those who, again, arent getting the games they'd like for another week is in fact quite childish.
@Chicken_Brutus

................................................................................
i got to stop using that vid
@Geonjaha: Well if that is how you feel, then so be it. And for future reference, I like the 3DS Virtual Console too. Perhaps you don't need to jump to conclusions
I find it kind of dumb that I went to the eShop today and they don't even have Block Factory featured. I literally had to type "block" into the search bar to find it, yet that's this week's "big game" that, theoretically, is the reason why we didn't get any Virtual Console games.
@grumblebuzzz you can go to recent arrivals
Ah. I guess I missed that somehow. Still yet, most of the time the new game is the first tile to show up and the game itself is featured.
Another disappointing week for me.
For a change, I can't complain quite as loudly. SSFII does show signs of life for Wii VC (though I wouldn't be surprised if it's the LAST Wii VC game we see). I'm going to get it in a few short minutes, to support VC, and because I'm a Street Fighter II collector (God, I hope we see arcade-perfect SFII on Wii U VCA).
I'd be lying if I said I wasn't discouraged and ticked off by another week without 3DS VC, though. I'm so tired of some of NoA's practices. We're having a 3DS VC drought after a few months like we didn't have on Wii VC until like year 3. I guess they think all the people here want is -Ware shovelware (and yes, I know there are some great DSi/3DSWare games).
Worst of all to me, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters STILL is not even ESRB rated, so it might come next month or next year (or not at all). They were bass ackwards with the KI games. They could've used 3D Classics and OMM to promote Uprising, as was done in Europe, Japan, and I imagine everywhere else. They couldn't do that, though. It would've made actual marketing sense. Nor is there even a demo to show those on the fence about Uprising what an amazing experience it is. It all adds up to disappointingly lukewarm sales for Uprising here in the States.
@grumblebuzzz
Funny to hear about Mugbook users complain, when some of them are probably completely mesmerized by insipid FB social games. Knowing this might inspire me to actually use FB again, to do some complaining of my own at Nintendo's FB page. Perhaps others will join me in telling them we want moar 3DS and Wii VC?
I don't want to close out with negativity, though. We do, at last, have another Wii VC game. And you know what? I'm going to go buy some Nintendo Points, then spend them like they're burning a hole in my TV, on SSFII! SHORYUKEN!!!
I like Street Fighter but I won't buy it just for online play, Block Factory looks nice, but I heard Nintendo World Report gave the game a 4/10 and said it is just customizing puzzle and getting high scores, still though I still am interested though, I will wait for more reviews first.
WHY WON'T YOU FREAKING RELEASE ANY GAMEBOY GAMES NINTENDO! Now if you will excuse me I am going to buy Kirby's Block Ball for my Gameboy Classic.
@bezerker99 im talking about the arcade version http://youtu.be/TlpKqkKd2dM
SIX straight weeks without a 3DS virtual console game? A month and a half without a single one? That as they say, tears it. My plan all along has been to save up money and wait until E3 of this year to choose between the 3DS and Vita and splurge on games. But this seals the deal. 3DS has bowed out of the competition. So what if Ninty releases a 3DS VC game next week? They could go another SIX WEEKS without one. And now Sony is almost ready to bring a huge lineup of PS1 classics to Vita. Sony improves, 3DS declines. I've lived through every era of handhelds. Do retro games mean more to me than modern ones? Not necessarily. But they are in the same ballpark. It would be stupid to think one new system could trump all the former system's combined.
What kind of marketing is that anyway? Nintendo is losing eShop clients every week that they don't release VC games. Again, this week there is only garbage like the previous 5 or 6 ones, I wonder if they will stop releasing Virtual Console games... which is very unlikely, but with all this bull going on I sincerely think that the VC is dead, Nintendo doesn't like our money? well... I'm sick of waiting for the original NES Zelda.
@Knux One would normally expect A LOT from a company that puts their souls into their videogames. But obviously they are not thinking straight right now, so, maybe we'll get some VC the next week.
and to those who want vc we wont get it til 2 weeks from now
april 26-block factory (3ds ware),chuck e cheese arcade room (dsi ware)
may 3-bird mania 3d(3ds ware) amoebattle (dsi ware)
may 10-kirby block ball(vc) pauls shooting adventure 2 (dsi ware)
although its no different from alleyway or brick buster, then i dont know what we got
Super Street Fighter II for Genesis............... slap self out of a 3rd story window
Block Factory looks atrocious.
Can we get a Block Factory review? I love puzzle games, if its has good create-a-puzzle-game features, I'm picking that up for $4.
Can we get a Block Factory review?
NO
Chuck E. Cheese!?! Just what I was waiting for!!!
I have download SSFII and it´s magnific. I hate the sound but the online is very good. You can put turbo in online fights too. The graphics are acceptable and the gameplay is perfect. A great game (but i hate that sound system).
Nintendo is not dumb. They cater to their target audience. And 3DS's biggest demographic is kids and nerds. What do kids and nerds like? Puzzles, RPG's, and casual games. So if you're not a nerd or child like me, then you'd be disappointed that Project X Zone is a turn-based RPG, or that there are no VC games (bc kids never played em so its not their main interest) for SIX weeks, or not get excited about New Super Mario Bros. 2 bc it's a clone of the casual original, and the fact that there aren't any 1st person shooters...at all. That's why I'm getting a Vita.
Virtual console service canned then?
@Dark-Insanity, how do you know the dates? On eShop they all day TBD (to be determined).
@Shinobi88, Nintendo is not Namco Bandai, SEGA, or Capcom, so the decision to make Project X Zone an RPG isn't Nintendo trying to cater to "kids and nerds", as they have no decision in the matter. The lack of VC games is a letdown, I agree, but at least the "3DSWare" has generally been of good quality (can't speak on behalf of Block Factory, but other recent releases such as Colors! 3D, Ketzal's Corridors, and 3D Classics: Kid Icarus all got favorable reviews). I'm not the biggest fan of the "New Super" series myself, but I don't know how you can press judgement on it after 4 screenshots. Until more is known about it, I don't think it's fair to judge it.
BTW, Vita is just as much for "kids and nerds" as 3DS. Why? It's a dedicated gaming system. If you don't want to look "odd" in public playing games, maybe a smartphone would be more your speed
@RR529 from first to last shows the weeks, each week is a 3ds ware(or vc) and a dsi ware so from left to right shows you what comes next to what comes last...also check the date of some of them on this site
By the way, I think I've figured out when we'll get Super Mario Land 3. Since it's taken so long to release SML 3 that New Super Mario Bros. 2 has been announced, it wouldn't surprise me if NoA holds off on SML 3 until around the time NSMB 2 is released. Which isn't terribly far off, if the August release date for NSMB 2 holds. That would be in line with NoA releasing Super Mario Land 2 about a month or month-and-a-half before Super Mario 3D Land's release last Autumn. Of course, I'll believe NoA following a logical pattern when I see it.
I just pray they're not holding Kid Icarus: OMM for the next Kid Icarus game.
MY ESHOP UPDATE STILL HASN'T COME YET!! MY GOD
Glad the Wii FINALLY got an online Street Fighter though it's on the late side. Better late then never though.
Aside from TG16's Fighting Street or whatever it's called, I've bought every SF available on the VC and since this has online, I'll purchase it. It's painfully obvious Nintendo doesn't give a crap about the VC on the 3DS though, and really haven't given a crap about the Wii VC since mid-2009, it really is time they end the service, it had a decent run but it's over. Any classic game they want to release from here on out should be a '3D Classic' for the 3DS or an 'HD Remix' for the Wii U. I'd definitely buy Super Mario World again if it was given the 3D Classic treatment.
Nothing for me this week.
@RR529 , PLEASE use your brain before you speak. These 3DSWare games you speak of like Colors and Corridors, are the EPITOME of nerdy and uber casual. I want hardcore games. And VC games are almost always hardcore bc they made games harder back then. And I KNOW New Super Mario Bros 2 is casual bc Ninty said players of all skill levels can play, aka no challenge. Same as King of Pirates and evry other new 3DS game. The Vita defines hardcore gaming on a handheld. Lots of 1st and 3rd person action games. And games just look cooler on Vita across the board, like Escape Plan. Whereas Crush 3D had to be nerdified and kiddy-fied b4 it could come to 3DS. It's ok to be a child or nerd. Just don't kid yourself
was the first to rate block factory, did it last night
It's good that Super Street Fighter II Genesis Online finally hit our side for the Wii. It's too bad it came at the worst time though cuz right now I'm still in a world of hate against Capcom, I probably won't be getting it. Got the Super NES version already anyways so I'll stick to that.
Come on nintendo! Where's the 3DS virtual console?
Block Factory is an OK game. I mean, the default games are total Tetris/Columns rip-offs, but you can make creative stuff if you put your mind to it. Not that I show interest in playing it a ton, but still...
And Chuck E. Cheese, really? Out of all companies it could be published by, it had to be UFO.
Hopefully this week we can get Kirby's block ball. Bird Mania 3D is a very cheap game, so if a 3DS VC game doesn't come out with it (And please, not Zelda on the NES. We have gotten more NES games than gameboy games that it's almost like that's what they do to prevent GB VC from happening.), then that will be really confusing. I don't really care about Wario Land or Kid Icarus of Myths and Monsters, but at least SOMETHING would be nice. I would also wish they add dates for their games in the coming soon section so I don't have to email Nintendo.
