A few problems w/ this. No 3DSWare games except some dumb Pokemon thing that isn't even a game. No Game Gear games. Um...those were supposed to be coming to the system right? I'll describe the initial eShop lineup as Shady McShaderson
For the guy ranting about prices above, do you think they're gonna charge $4.96 for GB games? No, Japans prices don't translate directly to America. They will be $3 or $4. Which is worth way more than getting a crummy used copy at a game store. A physical copy is only collectible in new condition. Either get new physical copy or straight onto the system. One is collectible and one is convenient.
The big thing for me is the 3DSWare. Is it gonna be full of mostly worthless puzzle games and flash games like DSiware. I can't read what those are since they're Japanese, though one is a breakout clone which to me equals "worthless." If 3DSWare wants to make some noise it needs to fill up w/ action games and side scrollers like XBox Live
ATTENTION!!!! this game is going to be awesome, but that's not what I came here to say. You don't have to wait till next week to see this game. Konami is holding it's own E3 conference waaaay ahead of everybody else...as in, tomorrow night at 8 p.m. Here's the link to the site and a countdown: http://www.konami.com/e3/. This will most certainly have gameplay vids and hands-on with every major Konami game as well as all their biggest top secret announcements. Considering next year is Snake's 25th anniversary. Expect something BIG
On one hand, the 3DS is worth $250. It has good tech and offers 3D which is ahead of its time. And that probably is a number that Nintendo had to put up to make any kind of profit due to high cost of production. But...it's too expensive. One of the main things that keeps Nintendo ahead of the competition is price. And they're losing a lot of gamers here. Casual and hardcore.
Square Enix, i have faith in. n-Space, not so much. But I want to see as many action games as possible on 3DS. That's what us hardcore gamers crave. DS just didn't cut it in that department. That beast on the top left looks really freakin cool though. For some reason that pic looks like a futuristic version of Golden Axe.
One of the best things about gaming is the collectibility. The box art, the manual, the cart or disk. Box art actually affects if I want to buy a game. And that's why major companies invest a lot of time and resources into making collectors editions. A handheld that is download only loses almost all of its collectibility. Plus, moms are the 2nd biggest video game buyer behind gamers. And they only buy actual boxes not little credit card looking things that says it has a game in it. 3DS sales would be cut in half over its lifespan if it was download only
Konami's E3 press conference is actually on June 2nd, not June 6-9 like the other companies. You should be able to catch it live June 2nd on the web. It's guaranteed to be chock full of Snake love, meaning Snake Eater 3DS gameplay, and a couple secret announcements. Snake? Snake?? Snaaaaaaaake?????
That trailer looks epic. The thing that always hooked me about the Genesis Shinobi games was the amazing journey they took you on. Cool and weird locations, fast and fiendish gameplay, and insane bosses. This game definitely looks like it follows that tradition. Griptonite has had a lot of experience with sidescrollers on DS and fared pretty well with games like Wolverine, Iron Man 2, and Ben 10:Ultimate Alien. Hopefully, they've perfected the formula. I'm glad the story carries over from the original Genesis character. Joe Musashi. Anime cutscenes will really help tell the tale. Consider this a must buy.
Well, I'm glad it's a new game 2. And I'm glad it's a side scroller. But I do hope at least 1 of the old Shinobi games is unlockable. Griptonite has been known to make their unlockables fiendishly hard to get tho. Pleeeeease Sega, bring back all your best franchises this way: Streets of Rage, Vectorman, Comic Zone, Toejam & Earl, Golden Axe. SEGA!!!
I don't know how you could watch the teaser and think this is a compilation. Re-imagined doesn't mean the games themselves. It means the idea of Shinobi. So there's no telling what we're going to see. It's either going to be: a.) completely new side-scrolling game, b.) completely new fully 3D game, c.) remakes of the best levels from previous Shinobi games similar to what they did with Sonic Generations. I'm thinking Option C is the most likely. But hopefully more info. sneaks its way out later this week.
Sonic!!! Shinobi!!! Sega!!! I'm excited about both, but Shinobi more so. Back in the days when side-scrollers reigned supreme, there were two ninjas that rose above the rest. Joe Musashi and Ryu Hayabusa, aka Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden, respectively. While Ninja Gaiden held the advantage in presentation, with its beautifully drawn and exciting cut-scenes, Shinobi ruled in every other category. The Genesis and Game Gear Shinobi games were unmatched by other side scrolling action game in expertly crafted level design, ability to control the character, and insane bosses. Ninja Gaiden accepted defeat and moved into the realm of 3D. There's no telling what Shinobi will do to answer. But it will be awesome. Here's to hoping Revenge of Shinobi is an unlockable...
It looks a lot like Griptonite's Iron Man 2 game for DS. You can run around or fly around. Griptonite makes quality side scrollers. Now for $40, you might want an exceptional one. I'd wait for the reviews. Now, if you're a true GL fan, then you'd better pre-order it or lose your street cred.
3D will be pretty mind blowing in Resident Evil Revelations and Metal Gear Solid. But augmented reality has the most potential. I don't even know if this is possible: A game set in a lush alien environment like the movie Avatar. And when u held the system to the right of you, the camera moved w/ you and it showed you the plants to the side. And when you held the system above your head the camera moved w/ you and you saw a giant bird beast flying high above you. Anywhere you moved the 3DS, the camera would show you the game world from that perspective. You would truly be inside the game world. And then a 20 foot tiger jumps out at you from behind a bush in 3D. Now THAT would blow everyone's mind. Even more than Super Mario 64.
3DS virtual console support we really want: GBA, SNES, and Genesis
A huge list of 3DSWare games that aren't just clocks or puzzles
1st gameplay videos and details of Batman, Contra, and Ninja Gaiden
I also wanted to tell y'all about a neat and easy to navigate new site I found called 3DS Focus. It doesn't go into a lot of detail in the articles, but it does get 3DS news out quicker than any other site I've found. I use it to compliment this site. Go there to check for news and then come here to get more meat to the story and read a lot of comments
sorry. im just messing. "to each his own." i can see the value in modern & classic Sonic. I'm glad they're both in the same game so no one has to choose. Hopefully they do it this way more often.
Games should reward you for beating them. With exploration as a side offering. It's called casual gaming when you don't want a challenge. And that's the main reason why Wii games are hideously rated compared to Xbox and PS3. Who would ever want a Wii when a good hardcore game comes out once every 11 months? Developers are just shoveling out games for casual gamers. Thanks for helping to ruin gaming, Modern Sonic fans. Just go play Angry Birds so you don't have to cry to your mommy when you lose a life.
I've never played Sonic Colors so I'm guessing Sweet Mountain is later in the game? That vid just proves my point. Most of the level is spent zipping along at full speed and there are very few obstacles and almost no way to die. I don't see how any 5 yr. old who made it to that level would die at any point during the level. If you make the later levels of classic Sonic, you'll die...frequently. Modern Sonic, though it looks amazing, is made for kids. Sega has even said so.
Ok, I will say that I've stated something incorrectly. I've called modern Sonic an "on-rails shooter" when really it's just "on-rails." I just called it an on-rails shooter b/c I've never seen a game be made that was just on-rails. What's the point of letting the game carry you from point A to B. Too easy.
Ok, Mr. StoppedReading, take a look at this clip from Sonic Unleashed, fast forward past the cut scene and tell me how the gameplay is any different from an on-rails shooter, just w/ less enemies: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-f55B7x72M
By the way, the Sonic Adventure games for Dream Cast aren't classic or modern. Somewhere in between.
This is the final say in classic vs. modern Sonic. They are 2 completely different kinds of games, thus, you can't compare. Classic Sonic is a platformer. You run, you jump, you have to land on moving platforms, you have to perfectly line up jumps to hit enemies. It's basically Mario w/ more speed. The only time I remember reaching Sonic's full speed (aside from being Super Sonic) in the original 4 Sonic games is in Chemical Plant Zone in Sonic 2. That's because there is a massive hill w/ no obstacles. It was so cool and rare to the series that GamesRadar voted it the 6th best Sonic moment ever. Modern Sonic isn't a platformer. It's an on-rails shooter where you occasionally jump. Sonic always travels at full speed and rarely has to land on platforms. Jumping on Badnicks just requires a couple button taps, no lining up the jump. This removes most of the skill required to play the game. Modern Sonic is not made for hardcore gamers. So you can't say one is better. They're too different. Classic Sonic is for hardcover gamers. Modern Sonic is for kids
You can tell if nostalgia is the driving force behind you liking something by going back and playing it 20 yrs. later. The Genesis Sonic games are still perfect. Physics, level design, music. Purrrrrrfect. I'm hoping in Sonic Generations you can play every level as a side-scroller b/c i find no joy in running full speed constantly and occasionally tapping a button
SEGA!!! Does anyone remember a little game called 'Aliens Colonial Marines'? There was a really spiffy DS game in the works (you can still catch the trailer on youtube) that might be getting the bump up to 3DS. We could also be looking at Sonic Generations and Time Crisis. Expect a few E3 announcements. Maybe a 'House of Dead' game. If these are mostly Game Gear ports then I'll be only slightly excited. The only games I'm looking for from GG are the Shinobi games, Streets of Rage games, Columns, Sonic Triple Trouble, Gunstar Heroes, and maybe something I've never heard of. Like I said before, we need a Genesis collection. Something with at least 25 games on it, hopefully closer to 50.
if one of those 20 games isn't a Genesis collection, I'm retiring from gaming. Old franchises we'd all see brought back to life: Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Toejam & Earl. Sega does what Nintendon't
Does anyone see what's going on here? This is being released at the exact same time as the Nintendo E3 press conference. Now why on Earth would Nintendo do a major thing like releasing the eShop at the same time they had to organize a major press event?? They are going to announce something BIG at E3 folks. Hold onto your butts
I don't care what anyone says. The main appeal of any game is how it presents itself, moreso than the gameplay. That's why I love Metal Gear Solid above all else while I don't have much of anything for Syphon Filter. When I saw the initial preview in nintendo power, i thought they ruined this game by 'cheering it up.' A similar problem that used to happen when porting Genesis games over to SNES. But seeing it in live action, it isn't so bad. Just not as good as the original.
Kojima always figures out how to maxx out a system's capabilities. Professional game reviewers wept when they played the demo for this. Now imagine us mortals playing an entire game like that.
Nintendo Power gave it a review score of 7, that's a better score than NP gives most non-Nintendo published games. And maybe they can use that extra month to improve it a little more. It's an exact Smash Bros. clone, just a little less polished. One thing I'm excited about is the adventure mode. It's a side-scroller that takes about 6-9 hours to beat and it will include a lot of mini-games, like a 1st-person shooter game, a mine cart game, an 'angry birds' style game, and some puzzles and platforming. I'm getting this b/c the characters rock: Captain Planet, Powerpuff Girls, Dexter, Monkey, Ben 10 (with 5 of his alien forms), Samurai Jack, etc.
its cool crazy j. zelda is gonna be crazy good. but this game isn't gonna be a slouch.
crazy j, that comment is crazy. how many people are going to go to the store and say "im really looking for a fighting game w/ my favorite cartoon characters, but wait, id rather have an rpg about a generic elf". the two aren't rivals. they're packing a lot of content into this game so it's better if they take the time to perfect captain planet's "spinning tornado piledriver". THE POWER IS YOURS
At the end of the day Mario Kart is still Mario Kart. A few new tracks or power-ups don't make one version stand out from the other. The 3D spices it up a little. But they need to add a new mode. Something awesome.
Does anyone know how exciting 3DSWare really is?? Let me go through my reasons for being jacked up like I'm on a constant Mt. Dew high. #1: we're getting old school NES games w/ a 3D kick. That's Mario Bros., Contra, Mega Man, Excite Bike in 3D. I can't even imagine how awesome that is. #2: We're getting Game Boy, GB color, Game Gear, and TG-16 games for download and maybe even GBA games eventually. Be sure to check out Game Gear Shinobi. I've never played it but look up reviews for it and it's 9s and 10s across the board. I love me some Shinobi if you couldn't tell by my name. #3: MOST EXCITING-3DSWare games. Wiiware games are good, but there's one problem. The file size is really small. That means 10-15% of the best Wiiware games never got made b/c they were too big. 3DSWare games have a bigger file size. Get ready to have your mind blown! Other 3DS games to be excited about: Williams Pinball Collection. I had that for Wii and it is the best pinball sim I've ever played, more fun that being at a real arcade!! And saving the best for last...hopefully this gets announced at E3: Metroid Prime Hunters 3DS. It's amazing how good Prime Hunters was on DS's puny hardware. Imagine what they could do on the 3DS. It's scary. But in case that doesn't get announced, the Conduit 3DS is still getting made, so we will have an extreme 1st-person shooter in our future.
First person shooters were one of the only reasons that the DS could appeal to hardcore gamers over the psp. But due to limited tech specs you couldnt have clear enough graphics or good enemy AI. Prime Hunters was impressive but it was a little on the easy side. I'd be more excited about Prime Hunters 3DS, but this game is still pretty exciting. Conduit 1 was kind of bland and generic, but for Conduit 2 they're really expanding on the environments, weapons, and boss fights. So that experience would def. be awesome on the 3DS. and come on, it's in 3D. it's gonna be mind blowing. an original game is always cooler than a port, so a prequel or Conduit 3 would be sweet. all in all, i'd say this is a game we should pre-order. For one, its gonna be awesome, and for two that's gonna get a lot more FPS on 3DS
YES!!!!! SEGA!!!!! Still my favorite game developer at heart even though they haven't been pumping out great stuff lately. Existing franchises? They already teased us with Aliens and House of Dead so those better be in the works. Classic IPs?? That's where the real potential lies. Gimme Streets of Rage!! Gimme a new Shinobi!! Gimme Golden Axe!! Heck, everything Sega put out in the 90s was golden. I'll take a new Toejam & Earl, Comix Zone, VECTORMAN, Nights Into Dreams....anything!!! SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGGGGGGGAAAAAAAAAA!!!
I've watched a couple virtual boy games on Youtube, and they look pretty cool. The all red color actually draws you more into the game. I'm not really interested in Wario games, but the one for virtual boy looks xcellent, and I'd give it a download. So ya, put em on there. Couldn't hurt.
No one really understands the point of Mario. When NES was released, Super Mario Bros. blew people away b/c the graphics and gameplay were so much more sophisticated than anything available. When Super Mario Bros. 3 came out it blew people away again b/c it was like playing a 16-bit game. When N64 came out, Super Mario 64 blew people away b/c it was a fully realized 3D world. When Mario Galaxy came out, it blew people away b/c it was almost 4-dimensional. So on the 3DS, Super Mario 3D will be the next evolution of blowing people away, however they decide to do that. And then the 2D Mario's are always cool b/c they give you that nostlagic and tight gameplay. So I'm glad we have both options
This is DEFINITELY good. Example: when the DS originally came out, they continued to make Game Boy Advance games for a little while. One title, TMNT was better on GBA than any other system, including DS. And you could play GBA games on DS, so it was like you got to choose 2 versions of the same game. Just like you'll be able to play DS games on 3DS. More choices for games = more chance of finding a good game.
It would be really awesome to see Galaxy try their hand at a beat 'em up or FPS. There's almost no Final Fight/Streets of Rage style beat 'em ups on DS and it's no suprise when one comes along like Photo Dojo, it gets a lot of hype. I think Galaxy's version would look more like River City Ransom which isn't a bad thing. And with their quirky art style and graphics they could make a cool FPS. I'm not 2 excited about a puzzle/platformer considering that's all about all you can get on DSiWare. Unless it has an xtremely cool art style or gameplay hook, then there's a chance i get it.
Amen to Rocket Knight. can't get cooler than a possum dressed up like a knight with a jetpack strapped to his back. make a new one, Kid Icarus Uprising style and have the Genesis game as an unlockable
No game has ever topped Contra in terms of makin you feel like a bad dude who was saving Earth from a horde of alien scum. Gears of War is the closest thing. So every new Contra goes in the top 5 hype meter. I'd like to see 'em mix in some 1st or 3rd person levels w/ the traditional side scrolling.
Froggers got a bad rap. You can't control those little croakers and not get a smile on your face. They need to find a way to get people excited about the franchise again, similar to Pac-Man Champion edition or Space Invaders Extreme.

Re: SEGA Wants to Crush 3DS with New Project
All things considered, this is on my 'to buy' list. supposing it doesn't have poorly implemented touch controls like another PSP to DS game, Exit.
Re: SEGA Wants to Crush 3DS with New Project
I don't care what anyone says. The main appeal of any game is how it presents itself, moreso than the gameplay. That's why I love Metal Gear Solid above all else while I don't have much of anything for Syphon Filter. When I saw the initial preview in nintendo power, i thought they ruined this game by 'cheering it up.' A similar problem that used to happen when porting Genesis games over to SNES. But seeing it in live action, it isn't so bad. Just not as good as the original.
Re: Rumour: Metal Gear Solid to Sneak Onto 3DS in November
Kojima always figures out how to maxx out a system's capabilities. Professional game reviewers wept when they played the demo for this. Now imagine us mortals playing an entire game like that.
Re: Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion Knocked Back to June
Re: Cartoon Network Punch Time Explosion Knocked Back to June
crazy j, that comment is crazy. how many people are going to go to the store and say "im really looking for a fighting game w/ my favorite cartoon characters, but wait, id rather have an rpg about a generic elf". the two aren't rivals. they're packing a lot of content into this game so it's better if they take the time to perfect captain planet's "spinning tornado piledriver". THE POWER IS YOURS
Re: New Elements Planned for Mario Kart on the 3DS
At the end of the day Mario Kart is still Mario Kart. A few new tracks or power-ups don't make one version stand out from the other. The 3D spices it up a little. But they need to add a new mode. Something awesome.
Re: BestBuy Lists $20 3DS Cash Card for the eShop's eWallet
Re: High Voltage Working on Bringing The Conduit to 3DS
Re: Sega's 3DS Line-Up May Include Some Old IP Revivals
YES!!!!!
Re: If You Want Virtual Boy Games on 3DS, Speak Up
I've watched a couple virtual boy games on Youtube, and they look pretty cool. The all red color actually draws you more into the game. I'm not really interested in Wario games, but the one for virtual boy looks xcellent, and I'd give it a download. So ya, put em on there. Couldn't hurt.
Re: Nintendo Bringing 2D and 3D Mario Games to 3DS
Re: DS to Have Life After 3DS, says Nintendo
This is DEFINITELY good. Example: when the DS originally came out, they continued to make Game Boy Advance games for a little while. One title, TMNT was better on GBA than any other system, including DS. And you could play GBA games on DS, so it was like you got to choose 2 versions of the same game. Just like you'll be able to play DS games on 3DS. More choices for games = more chance of finding a good game.
Re: Exclusive: Flipper 2 Announced!
i said if the art style was epic i'd give it a look. it reminds of earthworm jim. and 90s comic books are cool...so i'll give it a look. go 90s
Re: Goodbye Galaxy Games to Unveil New Game on Friday
Re: Konami Has a Quartet of Franchises Heading to 3DS
Amen to Rocket Knight. can't get cooler than a possum dressed up like a knight with a jetpack strapped to his back. make a new one, Kid Icarus Uprising style and have the Genesis game as an unlockable
Re: Konami Has a Quartet of Franchises Heading to 3DS
No game has ever topped Contra in terms of makin you feel like a bad dude who was saving Earth from a horde of alien scum. Gears of War is the closest thing. So every new Contra goes in the top 5 hype meter. I'd like to see 'em mix in some 1st or 3rd person levels w/ the traditional side scrolling.
Froggers got a bad rap. You can't control those little croakers and not get a smile on your face. They need to find a way to get people excited about the franchise again, similar to Pac-Man Champion edition or Space Invaders Extreme.
