@ x.SuperMario.x Probably a lot. I imagine it's quicker to bring a puzzle game to market than an RPG. There's also the nature of WiiWare to discourage developers from making RPGs--y'know, the idea that WW is for small, cheap, short games and all.
@ The Indigo Effect: I loved Illusion of Gaia, played it multiple times and all that. In fact, when I heard Terranigma was a sequel, and that so many people loved it, I actually emulated it for a while. I can't stand Terranigma, though. I hate the setting and the plot shoots the shaggy dog.
Shame these two games didn't come out, I'd download them both. Love TTA, good little platformer.
Corbie: Too true. I like the professionalism from reviews like this--you know, the clean writing style and coherency, and actual content (v. "this game is so grate buy it now or ur gay!", e.g. the more common player reviews). There is something lacking when a time limit is imposed, though, even with retail games. Penny Arcade mentioned something to this effect when discussing Assassin's Creed, IIRC.
Simbabbad has a point. It doesn't matter to me if a reviewer likes or hates a game--we all like and dislike certain things--but it does matter that the reviewer actually, y'know, reviews the game thoroughly. That includes mentioning its features, even the features the reviewer doesn't particularly care about as a gamer. Cuz those may be features I care about as a gamer.
Not that I can comment on whether or the reviewer here neglected to mention important details, since I don't own the game. Not that this particular game isn't insta-buy for me, anyway.
Just making sure buying it doesn't, y'know, infect the user with herpes or anything.
I mean, sure, some people got Tetris for the [insert system here], but once it sold out, it sold out. Hopefully, the only supply issue for WiiWare will be bandwidth.
3 hours sounds perfect to me. I'm inching my way through console games--no matter how good they are, I have a hard time getting comfortable on the couch in a way that also allows me to effectively play the game. I tend toward the DS, because I can take it with me around the house, place it on my stomach when I'm stretched out sideways along the couch, and continue to play even when the cat decides to lay down across my forearm. But as for 3 hours, I could finish a 3 hour game.
I'm another who'll be getting this one. I've only ever owned Tetris on the NES & Gameboy. I no longer have the NES copy--haven't for some time--and would prefer the bright, pretty colors of this over the GB version. There, I said it.
@ Shoemaker: I wouldn't buy this game for $1, either. That doesn't mean it's not worth more, just that it looks like something that won't be any fun for me. ($1 for pop drinks...really? How about $0.50 for the store brand 2 liter? ;])
@ LuigiDude: "I was hoping for a larger number to see more odd titles" Me too. :[
"why would NP want FFVI as the GBA remake is much better?" I totally agree that the GBA remakes are a horjillion times better, but some people prefer the original. I think it wouldn't be terrible to have both available, considering there's a finite, decreasing number of working FF6 GBA carts in existence (assuming that carts get lost & fail), but a VC supply would be endless--not to mention the VC version would be easier to track down and theoretically cheaper, for those inclined for such features. Plus, anyone who owns a Wii could play the VC version, and not need a working DS/GBA (and vice versa).
The GBA version is sold out, as far as I know, so I don't see why Squeenix wouldn't want to squeeze some extra profit out of the title through the VC. Not like they get money from used copies of the game.
@ Tides of Chaos: That's tragic. I was under the impression the top 100 most requested would be posted (probably because that's what Damo indicated in his previous article; I wonder if NP changed its mind?)
The only two I voted for that made the top 5 are Mother & Earthbound (my top 2 most wanted), but I'd be totally down with Chrono Trigger & Super Mario RPG.
Anyone got a full list somewhere? Or what issue N Power this came out in?
A game where you pop bubbles? I'll pay 300,000 Wii points!
I jest, I jest. All in good fun. I'm guessing this is a game where some of us will have to play it to get the appeal. Shame there's not going to be any Wiiware demos, cuz I've gleaned about all I can from video & review, really.
I wish we could sort "popular titles" by groups--say, consoles, genres, or whatever. I'd really like to know what the most popular T16 titles are, for instance.
Hey now, Karma, the game isn't out yet, and we don't know its content, let alone if it's "well worth the price." As far as we know, it could be head cancer. I'm not willing to pay $25 for head cancer--I probably wouldn't even pay $10 for it.
"Why not make one big game and release it for like 10 bucks? Dont milk the game like that."
While I do like my games cheaper than cheap, if the entire content costs $25, I don't mind getting the chance to "rent" $5 worth and see if I like it before shelling out the other $20.
Ugly graphics and sound, surprisingly fun gameplay but I don't quite find it addictive. You can skip to any level you want, which is a GREAT feature on a puzzler.
I downloaded it because [1] I like recent DS Castlevanias a lot, [2] it's recommended by close friends, and [3] the older Castlevanias have a huge fanbase. I was hugely disappointed--the game has not aged well.
Easily the game I play most on my Wii--and I never owned it as a kid, so no nostalgia attached. It's an interesting action Tetris-like hybrid, and I was surprised at how much room I had to improve from when I first started playing it. Lots of fun. Not colorblind friendly.
Shoemaker: You need new friends. =P I'm just joshin' ya. I suddenly appreciate that much more that all my friends are gamers.
I'm not sure this game has aged so well. I used to be able to play this by myself for hours (or what seemed like hours), but now I'm not really interested except for co-op--not like single player can get "Happy End" anyway. Co-op is definitely a blast. Great music on this one, even if it gets repetitive.
I'm a puzzler fan and I played Lolo as a kid, so it's no great surprise that I (still) love the game today. It's an action puzzle game--much like Solomon's Key or Chip's Challenge--rather than a logic puzzle game (Sudoku, Kakuro, Picross) or Tetris-like (Dr. Mario, Planet Puzzle League, Meteos). Because of this, timing is an important part of many puzzles, although Lolo lacks the timer-of-death element that Solomon's Key features. I give the game 4/5 with respect to its quality and playability in the context of today. It's a very short game and the music--while catchy--gets repetitive very, very quickly. Sometimes a stage will seem harder than it should be for where it's placed in the game. Overall, though, it's a gem of a puzzler and any puzzle fan owes it to him- or herself to give it a try.
1. Mother (Famicom) 2. Earthbound (SNES) 3. Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals (SNES) 4. Krusty's Super Fun House (SNES) 5. Mario and Wario (Super Famicom) Go Earthbound!
Matt is right about the way the ball behaves--I noticed right away that the pinball in Devil's Crush doesn't act the same as it does in Alien Crush. I don't feel like I have the same control over the ball as I do in Alien Crush and the game doesn't feel as fast. However, I do like that the switch between the upper, middle, and bottom sections of the screen is gradual--there's no back-and-forth flashing that Alien Crush gives you if your ball is bouncing around at the "boundary" between sections.
I like this game slightly better than Alien Crush, primarily because it's /hilarious/. I do enjoy crushing aliens, but I get more giggles out of destroying the tiny formations of color-coded marching men. It's particularly fun to narrate the goings-on in D's C to the other occupants of the room

A bubble-wrap-based rhythm game, with video game music themes? I am so there! =D
Re: Japanese WiiWare Tuesdays
@ Big=Sexy
I need to add Wiipicross.com to my wii internet faves. It's decent stuff.
http://gamepixies.com/puzzles/light-up/ is another logic puzzle game which is pretty wii-browser-friendly. It's Light Up, or Akari, a Nikoli game.
We ought to have a thread for these sites in the forums...
