As much as I love Tetris I don't really see how this is going to improve anything Tetris DS already offered.
That large playing screen seems interesting. I'm expecting you can go on the other players side and that you only need to complete a row of ten instead of the entire row.
I hope they release the NES version too... on second thought, I hope that they port all of the Gameboy games over to the Virtual Console... that would be awesome. So many great games. Nintendo is sitting on a cash cow, man. It would be foolish for them not to port over the Gameboy classics.
I think they are waiting to release the next proper handheld before doing a "Virtual Handheld" service.
I wouldn't want to play it on handheld. I want to play it on a TV. Maybe they'll do both...
Remember the Super Game Boy? They should release Game Boy games for Virtual Console as if they were being played on that on the actual Super Nintendo console.
Yeah, I remember. It was a great idea. Hopefully, they'll remember how great it was. Plus it would make them a ton of money. They have nothing to lose.
No wait, there is a Tetris Company? Since when?
hell's yes... finally, tetris and dr. mario on a new nintendo system...
Yeah Jonno, Tetris was invented by Alexey Pajitnov. He used the game to test his computer at the time, and Nintendo tried to get the rights to it, but the KGB was trying to get the money from it. It's an interesting story. You can watch a documentary on it at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=3637639460474263178
It's at the end of the documentary, but you should watch the whole thing... it's amazing. Interviews with Shigeru Miyamoto and everything. I get a little teary everytime I watch it.
tetris is awesome but i wouuld like more racing and third-person adventure games like zelda or mario or (good game here)
I could always use another Zelda game.
I have so many tetris games its not even funny.
This will need alot of upgrades in order for me to buy it.
I never really took interest in Tetris DS since I seemed content enough with the first two instalments, but this will do well to get a lot of people involved beyond just the old gameboy phase, even maybe the elders of the household. I'll be keeping an eye on this one
Hey that's pretty good! my mom is a tetris fan
WiiWare is near! I just got a wii system update that allowed the shop channel to support wiiware
It better not be too pricey! (dr. mario is 1000 wii points )
Hey SuperMichael, its coming in May, they are just planning ahead.
Will this include offline multiplayer? and how many people can play offline? and also, can you play with 2 players (using the same wii) against other people online?
I will buy this, if it has the Type 1 tetris theme.
This is one of the few puzzle games I will buy from Wii Ware, hope it comes out on May 12th too!
DJ Triforce: awesome link!
I'm another who'll be getting this one. I've only ever owned Tetris on the NES & Gameboy. I no longer have the NES copy--haven't for some time--and would prefer the bright, pretty colors of this over the GB version. There, I said it.
Unfortunately it didn't. Hopefully soon though. We are getting Dr. Mario next monday though if its any compensation.
tetris!!! at long last tetris is reborn!! w00t! lol
Yeah, i love Tetris DS but I prefer playing games on my TV and with wi-fi too.
For 800? I'll pass. Even with Wi-Fi, how much Tetris do we need, really. xD
Besides, I'm not that into Tetris anyway.
i hope the price is 500 wii points!
"how much Tetris do we need, really."
Infinite!
I mean, sure, some people got Tetris for the [insert system here], but once it sold out, it sold out. Hopefully, the only supply issue for WiiWare will be bandwidth.
Once this is released Tetris DS will be no longer needed...
The best Tetris game ever was Tengen Tetris on NES, which was recalled for copyright issues. For six months it directly competed with Nintendo's version until the courts ordered it removed from store shelves. It is one of the most coveted NES titles for hard-core collectors, and I own a copy of it
There is even a two player co-op mode, and when you complete a level, up to six little dancing sprites appear on the screen, depending on how well you performed. It's a great way to rest up for the next round, however once you hit level 17, the game continues indefinitely if you don't hit the ceiling. The music is better, the graphics were cleaner, and the game mechanics were so much smoother than the licensed version. Once you have played the Tengen version, you will never want to play the licensed version [NES] ever again.
Just don't ever expect it to appear on the virtual console...
Another system another Tetris... lol
cool, tetris!
Of all the WiiWare releases, this us the one I'm looking forward to the most.
Looks great!! I really enjoyed playing Tetris Ds Online, this is a sure download!!
The only tetris I've played was an online Flash version for free. It was pretty fun, except it wouldn't save my high scores. I hope this version saves your scores, as well as have leaderboards(singleplayer and multiplayer) because then it would be a "must-buy" for me. Otherwise, I'll just continue to play it online for free.
Man.. I play soooooo much tetris online on my DS
I got it about a month ago and I've played over 600+ games. I absolutely cannot wait until this comes out. Online Tetris is so freakin fun and it's a billion times more fun than doctor mario. I was worried that there would be no 4 player (what a let down, Dr. Mario) but now that I see 6 person multiplayer, I just can't friggin wait... Between this and Strong Bad, I can't decide what I want more. Please don't make me wait long Hudson!!!
why would you want this when it is the same thing as dr. mario except without the worlds #1 videogame icon
This is a absolute must have for adult and old-school gamers.
This will sell....
Believe me, this will be a hit all over the world.
Nintendo is playing their cards right by releasing this,
hopefully they release it around the Christmas season, where this will be definite hot ticket.
I'ma get this. Wi-Fi? Sweet!
Rockn.
@pApEr y0sh!
Because it's Tetris.
For me, Tetris is one of the few falling-block puzzlers that I like(besides Lumines and Meteos), and I never liked most of Mario's spin-offs(more of a Sonic man myself, though Meanbean Machine sucked arse), so you're basically asking us to choose between a classic puzzle game(my favorite puzzle game) and a Mario spin-off that's basically Puyo-Puyo(my least favorite puzzle game) with a twist. Not to mention it did what Online RX failed to do, 6 player online vs., BABY!
Tetris Party? Why did they name it that?
Why did your mom name you kevin?
@dazza- lol
@mr.niceguy- really, tetris never really interested me that much, idky, ( i think ive said that a lot). Dr. mario is a great puzzle game with a good twist, unlike tetris which is just a bunch of falling blocks.
paper yoshi- just like Dr.Mario is just a bunch of falling pills?
This Has.. what the 20th Tetris game. stop making those, thats enough!
yes. they are falling pills. but at least the pills have a point in life. they kill the viruses that would corrupt the mushroom kingdom if it werent for dr. mario. the blocks dont really... do anything
@over9000- exactly my point
the blocks try to destroy you. that is the blocks point of life.
no. the blocks pile up to get to the top of the screen and escape the game cause even they dont like their own game
I really hope we get some new news on this soon...
I love Tetris, it's right up there with Meteos and Lumines II. I was planning on getting Tetris DS, but now that this is coming out, I can save my money.
I never played Dr. Mario before, but it seems more like Puyo Puyo with a twist, and I was down right blinded by the multitude of colors in that game! Plus, it was the simplicity of Tetris that one me over anyways("the best games are simple to learn, difficult to master"), though, that is odd to say considering Lumines is my favorite game, yet it is probably the most complicated falling block puzzler around.
Online mode is enough for me to throw 5-8 dollars at my Wii.
It would be nice to know if it has both local and online hi-scores. I'd love to send them an email but can't find that on their Web site.
this doesnt interest me im not a tetris fan
I don't like Tetris, so...
sadly the only block puzzler I like was Meteos (God that game was good)
but they had to ruin it by making the sequel Disney oriented. At least this hasn't happened to tetris....yet..
@breaderer
Yeah, Meteos is my absolute favorite Puzzle game, and it came at a time when I had absolutely nothing else on my DS to play, and it kept me addicted for quite a while. I really hate that the sequel was so screwed up. If you have a PSP, I'd suggest Lumines. It's made by the people who made Meteos, and it's pretty fun, though it does take a bit of work to understand and utilize the whole combo thing. There is a demo out, it's from Japan, but you can just look up "PSP demos" on Google, and you'll find someplace you can get it from, and you don't need a Japanese account to play it. I don't even have the whole game, I just entertain myself with the demo!
Now on to Tetris - It's my third favorite Puzzler, and I'm happy to see it hasn't screwed itself up with "innovations" without remaining exactly the same as the original.
@PaperYoshi
You do know Tetris was the first falling-block game, right? Nearly every game that came afterwards is a variation of that original game( at least ones that kept the falling block motif).
I have been wondering. If Nintendo owns the tetris licence, then how is Hudson making a tetris game?
Now that I seen some screenshots, it looks like tetris DS.
Sweet cant wait to play this game besides Bomberman or Conduit
What can you say? It's Tetris.
I know I said I was looking forward to this game in an earlier comment, but I don't know now. I bought Tetris DS recently. While I'll argue that Tetris is Russia's greatest export next to vodka (enjoyed responsibly), I'm not that hardcore a fan. I'll wait and see.
Alot of people comment about this being another Tetris on another system blah..blah...etc. Let me remind you. You cannot kill Tetris, it cannot die, its immortal, you can play it in heaven. If a system come out with not Tetris, then Tetris will hunt that system down. Fear the Tetris
some news....
Tetris Party - more details
August 6th, 2008
We’ve already shared some details with you, but now some more mode names and other information has come in.
What they should do is put Gameboy games on the Virtual Console then download the Gameboy games to the DS
I dare you to name a single device that does not have a tetris or clone available for it. Yeah, its THAT popular.
@MasterMario
Developed by HUDSON SOFT,
Licensed to The Tetris Company,
Sublicensed to Tetris Online, Inc.
Nintendo was granted a sublicense at one point but never owned the brand by any means. check Tetris.com for a history, its an interesting read.
Another game that uses the wii balance board. Count me in!
KnuckleSonic8
"800 points? I'll pass Even with Wi-Fi how much Tetris do we need, really?"
For 800 this game will be a must! Don't pass on this great game. It will have 6 player Wi-Fi, 18 modes, Wii Balance Board will be used, and even Mii Supports. (Although not playable.) Your sitting one a big bargain. Don't get out of it. (I mean don't miss this out.) You will be sorry. And beside we only have until October 2008 for this to hit Wiiware. Hudson gave you a oppertunity to get this game for a low price and will be so much better then Dr. Mario Online so don't take any chance and download it this October! (Wish it had the Tetris A-type from the GB version or at least the Brawl remix.)
Edit: This is 1200 Wii Points. Sorry for the wrong information.
@Super Sonic, Terranigma etc: The game has been confirmed for a release in Japan for 1200 points. This is definitely still worth it though, but since Hudson have also made Alien Crush for the Wii, you can probably expect that one over here before Tetris (in October - due to Hudsons release of Bomberman this month), and then this game being released November-time.
I'm unsure about this...
I hope it's good.
Hm… Tetris DS should already satisfy my Tetris needs, right? Would this be worth it?
1200 Wii points??…oh Tetris…if you were some unknown game you’ld be 1000…
i used to hate tetris.. but i want to try it again... but 1200 pnts... come on
Official page now says it's out in "October" (it was "Fall" when I last checked it)
Online Multiplayer
Balance Board Compatible
Online Rankings
Classic Tetris Action
Only ÂŁ8.40/$12
This is FULL of WIN.
I'm getting this, for sure.
Oh gee, I hope it comes out tomaro, theve added a intruction guide on the TP website, IGN got a hands on. Im praying Oct 13, GIVE US TETRIS!
I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS GAME i dont have school tomarrow so if this comes out tomarrow i think it going to be 24 hour TETRIS!
I really hope it's 1,200 points, because thats all I have left lol
Lol, it is officialy 1200 points. Cmon Nintendo.com update already

It comes out Oct 20 is now the official date!!!!
Link...?
I hate it when people do this.
http://www.tetrisparty.com/
@ "hope it comes out on May 12th too!"
That guy had high hopes
@ Negative_Zero
What's your point?
Yes, that's the website. Very good!
Now where did you get the release date from?
That website says nothing about October 20th.
mmmm Virtual Console on the Wii and it would be cool if they do a Virtual Gameboy or something for the DSi
YES I LOVE TETRIS! even though its so simple
Got it today. Played classic endless mode for a while a tried online. Matches aren't laggy at all (although it did cut me off halfway through a match). Best of all is that it includes the classic "Type A" (a.k.a. Korobeiniki) music.
Also, according to the Tetris Party website, there's going to be a tournament on Decemrber 1st, WITH PRIZES!
Tetris just never gets old, even after 23 years.

Does it have infintate spin?
No infinite spin in Tetris Party, it's old skool rules
YES YES YES YES YES I CANT WAIT TILL FRIDAY WHOOHOO!!!
At least they only used one model for this gameplay demonstration.
I enjoy Tetris, but I dunno. Also, why 1200 and not 1000 pts?
Iam having alot of fun in Field Climber mode...probably my favorite of all the new modes. Also when it comes to Multiplayer, This is the best Tetris game to get.
You really can't beat this for the price. The first mode I tried was balance board, of course, and it was surprisingly playable. Field climber may also be my favorite of the novelty games.
I think that the online multiplayer mode may use your score to match you up with players on a similar level. If so, that's a pretty nice feature. Though in the few online matches I tried so far, I either lost or won very quickly--I guess because everyone starts out with the same score and people haven't played much yet.
It depends, there are lots of tetris games online for free, why pay $12 for another one? I'll pass.
Really??? Awesome!!! Definately getting this then. Tetris DS had infinite spin and it ruined it for me. Cheers Dazza.
@ Outrunner - I think Tetris Party also has Infinite Spin...
Getting this on Friday!
So far I have enjoyed Tetris Party, a lot! ~
One of the very few complaints that I have is that you can't do vs online in balance board mode & that your high scores for BB mode doesn’t go on the online high scores ~ I hope they change that but knowing Nintendo I doubt that will happen ~ One example is that they have new downloads for MegaMan but no new courses for Mario Kart just the Tourneys that go away after a week ~
But can you turn it off? When you play online?
@ Outrunner - Not exactly sure. I don't even know if Tetris Party actually does have infinite spin; but, in the trailer, I did see the words 'T-Spin Bonus' come up.
I'll test it when it comes to Europe this Friday.
I just downloaded it. I hate it when you're winning an online match and the other player quits. They should dock them points or something.
Anyway, it does seem to let you twist your block after it's touched down for a bit, but then it locks into place. Not quite infinate spin but still...
Edit: Yeah this version of Tetris is fun. I'm really enjoying it. It was worth the download.
@Terranigma- I second the cousin remark!
tetris for the NES is probably my favorite game ever, so i guess i should have expected to be disappointed by any new version of tetris.
i got my hopes up for this though and i got let down.
it seems to have all the new stuff i don't like and none of the new stuff i do like. i don't know what i was hoping for though... i guess i really just want NES tetris on the VC.
i hope tetris party grows on me so i don't feel like i tossed 1200 points out that i could have spent on some other puzzler(s)
probably the best deal on wii ware, you get the most famous puzzle game series with lots of replay value for just $12, whats better than that?
once i get enough money, im buying this game!!!
Great game! My wife and I have had many hours of fun with this one,Only thin I think they could have done better is to improve the menu on it.Example if it is your first time playing there are many screen options you have to go to before starting game.
I loved this game for a while but then, when a few of my friends came over and I asked if they wanted to play Tetris they looked at me like I was insane, WAAAA What do I DOOOO!!!
