Re: Nintendo Direct Zelda Announcement Rumours Intensify

munkeyjoe

It isn’t Nintendo being Nintendo, it’s Nintendo being a Japanese company. It’s really not that weird if you understand Japanese culture to be honest. It’s only weird to us in the west, though I would think England would understand as well. Japan has their own royal family and they remain a very integral part of Japanese society despite the fact they serve in a ceremonial role only. If the emperor of Japan died, the whole country would take a day or more of morning. Thus Nintendo is just being respectful of the situation. I applaud their efforts.

Re: Nintendo's Wii Is Still A Hit In Care Homes 13 Years Later

Playing Wii with my 9 year old daughter during our COVID staycation has been the best experience of this otherwise terrible year. She slices Wii so much. It’s crazy to think about how successful this system was and why. To see those same reasons keep it going over 14 years later. Wow.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

munkeyjoe

@graysoncharles I am not really reacting at all. Just answering the question. I think it is a terrible idea. Also I agree, no eshop refunds and the joycon drift issue is also anti-consumer. Really I don’t care if Nintendo releases an all digital system, I just don’t think they will. what would the point be? It wouldn’t make the system any less expensive. That card slot costs them pennies to the dollars.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

munkeyjoe

@brunojenso exactly. I find it even crazier anyone would want an all digital console that just sits there. Why would you not want options. I guess if the price was worth the trade off, but companies aren’t really saving much by removing a disc drive.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

munkeyjoe

@graysoncharles the issue is what are you saving by losing the card? Switch Lite was different in that Nintendo was able to cut $100. There is no way they’d be saving any significant amount of money by ditching the card slot so what would be the point. Isn’t going to make it any better at all. It would be a move that would be anti-consumer.

Re: Poll: Should Nintendo Release A Digital-Only Switch?

munkeyjoe

The obvious difference between the PS5, XBox and Switch is that the other two are removing a disk drive which presumably is saving a pretty good chunk of change. The cartridge slot is not nearly as much of a hassle or cost for Nintendo. Why remove it?

It is a little funny though, cause from a consumer level, why would you not want the disk drive on a console that just sits there?

Re: Random: GAME Mentions Non-Existent Nintendo Direct, Quickly Removes All Evidence

munkeyjoe

@illmatic20xx I’ve been thinking this for since February. In japan they have closed major theme parks and schools even. Remember when Nintendo postponed an announced direct a few years back due to an earthquake in Hokkaido? They don’t want to come across as celebrating video games while the world is freaking out about a virus. Just my guess, but it is in line with their previous moves.

Re: Switch Owners Choose To Play EA Games On Other Platforms, Says Company CEO

munkeyjoe

I must be the minority then, but I only play on switch unless there is no other option, ie RE2. I’ve always been a Nintendo fan, but right now it really is the console that attracts me most. Also, I have not bought or played a Madden since 2010 on PS3. If there was a switch version I would buy it day one, hell, I’d buy two so I can do switch vs switch games of madden with friends.

@TrueWiiMaster I would add also that most protests in Ominawa have more to do with Tokyo than with the US. It's about the bases, but about Tokyo's decision to move the majority of US forces down to Okinawa since its return to the Japanese in the 1970's. The US once had many bases throughout Honshu until that time. The people in Okinawa fear this puts a target on their small island should war break out in the Pacific. Mix that with the occasional, and I do mean very small percentage, of crimes committed by US military personnel and you do get quite a few protests on the island. But Japan wants/needs the US forces to augment their military just as much as we strategically need to be there to protect our Asian business markets and maintain security for our shipping lanes in south east Asia from pirating.

The fact is that the US is not an empire, but is a world power. Though everyone may hate us, and we may make decisions that benefit US interests, as world powers go, we are by far the most fair and moral power ever to exist in the history of mankind. No question, I dare you to name one world power better. One that could even compete.

As for the bombs, the bomb is a weapon, I have a very personal connection with Japan, but historically speaking Japan was clearly an enemy that does not deserve any pitty with regards to the bomb. Had they had it they would have used it. There is no denying that. Also, Pear Harbor is the American charge to war, but do not forget December 7th which would be December 8th in Asia, Japan attacked several US territories, to include the PI as well and murdered millions of innocent civilians as they charged through south east Asia.

Lastly, say the US didn't use the bomb, what do you think would have happened in post war Europe? Hypothetically speaking, had the US not shown the power they possessed would the Red Army not have just swept through Europe? I say that the evidence of Stalin's attempts prove they would have, but what stopped them was the US promise that the bombs would be dropped on Moscow.

Re: Parent Trap: Nintendo Switch Parental Controls Beat Console Rivals To The Punch

@JHDK I would agree with you in the fact that Nintendo has been very confusing with the details of how they'll handle online. I'm a little less concerned than most, because I don't play online very often anyway. The point I think is being made here though is that no one really knows what Nintendo's plans are. I could see a way the app could be amazing. Connecting with Bluetooth to you phone enabling a type of connection like you see with smart watches to push updates to your switch while outside and allowing friends to find you and set up matches even when your not gaming at the moment. It could build a bigger community than Xbox and PS4 that way. Kind of a next-gen miiverse of sorts. Or it could be a terrible idea. The fact is, I'm buying Switch day 1 because I don't care about it and I'd guess that most people that do care would never leave their current ecosystems anyway.

Re: Video: Watch the Nintendo Switch Experience From Tokyo, Day One - Live!

So I was there. Super packed. My daughter and I got to play Zelda. Loved the feel of the joycons. Favorite way to play was with one in each hand, kind of like wii, but with no wires. The aiming for the bow was done with the right joycon and felt so good. The official pamphlet they gave us had a few facts I haven't seen reported on. This is straight from the Nintendo pamphlet.
-Bluetooth 4.1
-2 USB 2.0 on outside of dock and 1 USB 3.0 on the inside (where HDMI hook-ups are)
-full charge of system takes 3 hours
-joycon battery lasts 30 hours on a charge
-pro controller lasts 50 hours on a charge
-headphone jack supports microphone

That's all I saw that I couldn't find elsewhere.

Re: Feature: How One Man Saved Kyoto - And Video Games - From The Atomic Bomb

@ElkinFencer10 that is some mighty revisionist history. I have mixed opinions about the atomic bomb, but in the end, after all the hoar the happened in world war 2 from all sides, it was nothing more than an exclamation point on the end. Japan's emperor and prime minister were indeed in peace talks, but not absolute surrender and the Army in China had remained untouched throughout the war and were completely against surrender at any costs. So, no, it was perhaps not necessary, but it was warranted in terms of military victory.
