Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl - Duel: Chibi-Robo!: Park Patrol

michaellivingjp

I remember seeing this at a Gamestop some 18 years ago and turning my nose up to it because of the Walmart logo. But my wife insisted because it was Chibi-Robo, so we picked it up. I learned quickly never to doubt my wife’s sense. Some of our favorite games have been random discoveries of hers.

Re: Feature: These Incredible Game Boy Mods Are All By The Same Guy

@Splodge They even made accessories for smart phones with plugs that would fit in the headphone jack. You could find characters resting on the top or feet dangling from the bottom… People would get upset every time a new model came out and Apple moved where the headphone jack was so their accessories wouldn’t fit the same way anymore. Of course, now there is no jack to speak of…

Re: Talking Point: Super Mario 3D Land Turns 10 - Was It The Best '3D' Game On 3DS?

michaellivingjp

This was one of my favorite 3D games. I don’t have nearly as much time to play games as I’d like (who does?) but this was one that I jumped into and played to the very end completing everything. I mean, I even put the time in to max out the lives counter to see Mario without his hat! And Mario’s comments when you reopen your 3ds I still find adorable. One of the things I really liked was how you could pick it up and play a level even if you only had a couple of minutes to spare. I read somewhere that they specifically designed the levels so you could finish one between train stations (in Tokyo). I think it probably resonates so well with me was because it was designed with working people in mind instead of only kids and you could play it as seriously or as casually as you wished and still get a satisfying experience.

Re: Marvelous Celebrates 15 Years Of The Rune Factory Series With A Special Anniversary Video

I remember Rune Factory being one of the first games we got for the DS, and we’ve been fans ever since. This, even despite some game breaking bugs, though I believe they fixed the most egregious ones for the western release. 2, in particular, had a game breaking bug if you fought the bosses out of order (as if you could figure out the order on your own). It says something, though, that my wife would spend the time to play through it twice, hurling obscenities left and right , and still enjoy working through the story again.

We need a Switch so we can get 5 before it becomes an expensive used game…

Re: As Square's Mana Series Turns 30, Key Figures Discuss Legend Of Mana's Development

Legend was one of my favorite games back in the day. Something about how everything meshed together was really cathartic. The art style, the music, the isolated story arcs, I spent a lot of time with it. The soundtrack is still one of my favorites, and I think I still have some of the fan art of the characters I drew lying around somewhere. I know it wasn’t to everyone’s liking, but it always reminded me of a beautifully illustrated storybook.

Re: Random: An Eager 3DS StreetPass Fan Spent A Day In New York, Got Zero Hits

I loved streetpass, but it really was designed with Japan in mind. I would take it out simply for a walk around the neighborhood and fill up on hits. Walking through Akihabara was a bonanza of hits, stopping every 20 or 30 minutes to clear the lobby, standing on the street with everyone else doing the same thing. But the few times I took it took it to the US resulted in maybe 1 or 2 hits for the whole trip... Ah, I still miss the excitement of seeing who I'd met. Never did fill out the whole map of Japan, though...
