Not cool Nintendo. It's hard enough getting gamers to pick up the Wii U.--they shouldn't play games with releases like this or gamers will switch to greener pastures like the Playstation online ecosystem where accounts aren't tied down to specific hardware and releases don't go in an out of circulation for no given reason.
This is not good news since it might impact games--Nintendo might not do or allow certain types of online interactions or multiplayer in games out of fear of hurting minors. What if game developers avoid multiplayer features in their releases because Nintendo won't allow voice chat or sharing images? Remember how Starfox on the 3DS allowed photos on local play but no online options?
It's ironic Nintendo is out to protect children...from my view, children are abandoning Nintendo in droves for iPads and iPhones. I was at a Starbucks all day 2 weeks ago (Eastlake, California). Nearly every little kid playing with a gadget was toying with an iPhone or an iPad. There's an entire generation out there that's going to skip Nintendo.
Grrr.... Nintendo's stance on online features drives me bonkers. Hopefully in 10 years time, adding Friends will be easier than the annoying friend code system, e-shop downloads will be based on accounts and not tied to the hardware, and more games have online play options.
Please don't remake...I'm very pleased with X/Y. I would be much happier if they bring in regions from the other games into X/Y--maybe in the next release of the game. That would be mind-blowing!
My take on the lack of 3DS Virtual Console games: Maybe Nintendo believes we only buy online titles on the week that they're released? They don't want anything competing with Pokemon X/Y for the next few weeks?
Looks amazing but I'm sad it will probably be very linear like the 3DS version. I guess the only way we'll get a game again like Mario 64, Galaxy or Sunshine...is when Nintendo re-releases them in HD versions.
Please no, Nintendo...I'm starting to feel "rerelease" fatigue. Just release a "Super Game Boy"-like device for the Wii U that allows us to play 3DS games on the Wii U...
....which brings up question for me...Where are the SNES/Gamecube VC titles on the 3DS? I have this weird feeling Nintendo would rather do some sort of "HD" version of these games to sell them at a higher price point than to sell them as VC titles. Kind of like the way Disney can re-release their big titles in a 7 year cycle ad infinitum.
I love my 3DSXL and I would buy this in a heartbeat if Nintendo tied their e-shop into one account. I love being able to buy an app for my iPhone and see it also on my iPad, and iTouch.
Sad news...I've been layed off twice in my lifetime. That said, my dream news: Sega announcing Phantasy Star Online 2 for the Wii U. or 3DS. Sega cancelled their plans to bring that game to the West on the PC and Vita. PSO is still an amazing game in the hearts of Dreamcast AND Gamecube lovers. Wouldn't it be a great game series to have under the Nintendo banner?
Price is steep but you can see Nintendo attempting to reel in the millions of casual buyers of the original Wii...All they NEED to do now is to rename the system with a moniker that clearly communicates that the system is a true sequel to the Wii...something like "Super Wii 2HDXL" and the money will start rolling in again.
Looking forward to getting 100% in the camera/action figure side quest. There are some bosses you can only photograph one time. I remember restarting my game when I found out that I missed getting a photo of a boss.
I wish Nintendo would listen to us. We would love a new Zelda. We would love a new Metroid. We would love a right analog stick on our 3DS. We would love an account system for downloads not tied down to gadgets. We would love more virtual console ports. Listen to us, Nintendo!
He's right...my niece gave up here DS after my sister got an iPhone and an iPad. Now at 10, she loves playing minecraft o the iPhone (in between instagramming/snapchatting with her friends)
Oh no imagine the playground with kids playing with their new 3DSXL and 2DS... "Look at Jimmy over there with the 2DS...he's too poor to have a 3DS like us."
I hate the way the 2DS looks but it's clearly made for the younger set. I do like that this does not force us 3DS/3DSXL owners to buy anything new. Removing the 3D will negate all of the criticisms that parents have had about ruining their kid's visions. Hopefully the kids can figure out Streetpass and we can get more hits as this unit (hopefully) sells to a wider audience. Also, they did not do away with the clamshell...if you want the clamshell, get the 3DS / 3DSXL!
Nintendo....you want to sell systems? Release titles like these two in the Wii U. e-shop. These type of games will tide many gamers over while we wait for your big releases...
I'm super excited for SMB3 on the 3DS but this made me think of my favorite version of SMB3--the Super Nes version in Super Mario Bros. All-Stars. Then I realized there's really nothing from the SNES being released on the 3DS except the remake of A Link To The Past. Where's Super Metroid on the 3DS? Heck, how about Earthbound? Is Nintendo withholding SNES games for possible pricier remakes/releases?
it's all about the games...at this coffee shop I'm at right now, people are going crazy espousing the gaming experience from "The Last of Us" on the PS3. I know that Super Mario 3D, Mario Kart and Zelda HD Wind Walker later this year will be great on the Wii U but they're not going to affect people who are being treated to games like "The Last of Us". Come one Nintendo! Quit playing it safe with your games.
I'm getting tired of this train of thought..next year they will be saying "We should have came out with first party games sooner (Pikmin 3, Smash Bros...)", Blah blah blah. I'm so tired from screaming for HD...now I'm tired of screaming for games like Mario Galaxy or Metroid. Go ahead and focus on casual, Nintendo...we'll let dust gather on our consoles while waiting for the big releases like a new Zelda... (I do love my 3DS, though)
I've had the guide for years just to relive the game. I'm looking forward to getting a Wii U. and replaying it. I wish they would port it over to the 3DS, also.
i agree with Patcher but I'm pretty angry at Nintendo for having no clue what some of their fans want from a Wii U...where's Metroid? How about a NEW Zelda? Whatever happened to games like Mario Galaxy or Mario 64? If I see another "New Super Mario Bros." game in 2D or ANY game that's a collection of mini-games I'm going to scream. I love my 3DS, though. I can't bear the thought of buying a Wii U for Pikimin 3 and Project 101 and having NOTHING new to play for months at a time--especially when my finances are tight.
I applaud his openness but I do believe they have their game focus wrong--Focusing on creating a game at the appeal of Wii Sports misses the mark for gamers like me that want games like a new Metroid Prime, a new Zelda...heck a Mario game along the lines of Galaxy. The titles announced at E3 seemed too middle of the road--all playing it safe for mass appeal. Definitely not enough for me to justify buying a Wii U in the near future. I'll stick to my 3DS for now to get my Nintendo fix.
Looking forward to this but dismayed that they seem to treat an HD port like a big release. They SHOULD be working right now on getting many games like Metroid Prime, Mario Sunshine, etc. for an HD port. If not, we might be getting only one HD release a year....
Love the idea of relay stations but saddened by one point: When you street pass someone, you exchange information both ways. With the relays, 20 people might pick you up but since you're not around, you probably won't get their data in return.
@HexZyle Thanks! Yes...I'm in the habit now of saving every time I get something important or even little transactions like cashing stuff in--especially during multi-player.
This game is really good. I love how it forces you to be patient..like making us wait several days for trees to grow fruits.
I don't like people calling it something like Farmville--it has a lot more charm and heart.
Great game: only complaint...getting the network error when I leave my gates open. It's happened twice. A still screen pops up with the mole character. Then the game resets and you lose items. Very shocking every time it happened. Maybe the network gets overwhelmed?
Nintendo 3DS s-shop conspiracy theory: maybe when Nintendo releases one of their first-party titles, they withhold other game releases at the time to cut down the competition in new releases? It really sucks seeing such a paltry stream of releases when Nintendo has THOUSANDS of titles to pull from.
I imported one and got it a week after starting Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate: I love it. Gameplay is so much easier with it. When I'm not playing MH, it's easy to remove and set aside.
I get it...Nintendo delayed the game in North America so they can make spiffy ads like this one....JUST RELEASE IT! We're already sold with or without fancy marketing! I hope they release a printed guide book. I need a book so I can check off every fish, bug, piece of furniture, etc. etc. that I get my hands on. Also, for the online features, I hope they have a way of automatically setting the correct time to prevent people from cheating (setting the clock ahead, etc.).
Did it offer anything new? Shinier graphics alone doesn't warrant buying a game again. Also, can't they technically still play the Wii version on the Wii U?
I'm put off by the higher prices on some digital downloads but one thing digital has over physical: time and convenience. I love being able to download a game at 2am and start playing it without waiting for the stores to open. Sometimes I'll read a decent review of an App/game and immediately download it.
Nintendo is pretty bad with the whole Circle Pad Pro XL release in the US...it's not available here yet when you start a game in the 3DS version of Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, the game asks if you're using a CPP. I had to import one from China for $40. (Getting it next week)
Thanks for the great interview...nice to see a story that's different from the usual features (absolutely nothing wrong with the other feature stories, BTW).

Re: Nintendo of America Launches Weekly eShop Price Promotions
Awesome but why are there no SNES games in the 3DS stores? I really want the original A Link To The Past. Heck, throw in Super Metroid someday.

Maybe they delayed the download because the original release had that included 3DS stand? I found myself not using the stand at all after awhile.
