Re: Feature: Which Nintendo Switch Game Did We Miss?

kickerofelves

Please do a review for La Mulana 2! I bought the original game on Wii back in the day because of NLs recommendation (it got a 10!) and it turned out to be one of my favorite games ever. The sequel is even better. It is by quite a wide margin the most engrossing, challenging and rewarding metroidvania I've ever played.

@impurekind that's just what I was thinking! Simply completing the three campaigns once will take most people more than 15 hours and that's if they ignore all the achievements, new game plus and challenge mode! I've clocked about 40 hours and I haven't even played Specter of Torment yet.

@RyanSilberman Colosseum was great, it was one of the few Pokemon games that actually took a lot of risks with the formula. I've always found doubles battles to be much more strategic and interesting than singles battles, and it baffles me that they're not utilized more in other Pokemon games. I also liked the art style much better than X&Y.

I hope they're making enough money to fund future projects with all these free updates! Though I suppose if they needed to they could easily raise a small fortune through Kickstarter with all the good will they've earned. Personally I would have been happy if they gave the DLC to backers for free and charged everyone else as this is going waaaaaaaay beyond the call of duty. While their commitment to fulfilling their stretch goals is admirable, at this point I'd be much more excited to see them develop a new project entirely. I played through the original shovel Knight campaign several times to get all the achievements so by the time Plague of Shadows came around I was a little burned out.

That said, the trailer is great and the new campaign does look really fun.

Re: Video: The History Of Croc, The 3D Platformer Which Partly Influenced Super Mario 64

"Nintendo had never let an outside company use their characters before, and weren't about to, either" This is actually not true. Their pitch was predated by the CDi Zelda games (93), not to mention the Mario titles developed by Hudson in the early 80s.

Pedantry not withstanding I have fond memories of Croc as it was the first 3D platformer I played. I vividly remember farming for extra lives to make the final stage less impossible.

Re: GameSeek Offers 'Price Guarantee' Nintendo Switch Pre-Order for Just Under £200

@readyletsgo I'd follow the age old adage on this one: "if it looks too good to be true it probably is". €245 including international postage is ludicrously cheap (that's less than i payed for the gamecube back in the day ) I fully expect the system to retail for over €300 given the technology it uses. I see no reason for Game Seek to pull a stunt like this unless they know something we don't. While the retailer looks trustworthy enough, €245 is a lot of money to throw at such a vague promise.

Re: Review: Ninja Five-O (GBA)

@Miketeevee76 In all fairness I did make several references to the game's rarity in the opening paragraph. I'll admit I failed to mention the current market value of the cart, but since it fluctuates so much I didn't think that information would have been particularly useful (more fool me.)

I'm sorry that you've had so much difficulty getting hold of the game, I know how frustrating that can be. You're in the right place though, 2 people in this very comment section have expressed an interest in selling a copy, have you contacted them?

While I'm slightly bewildered at the controversy this review has caused, I'm delighted that so many people here seem to genuinely care about the game.

Re: Video: Pokémon Sun And Moon Takes A Fair Old Time To Boot On Vanilla 3DS Consoles

kickerofelves

@PlywoodStick That's fair enough, I hadn't realized the 3DS was that weak, I always presumed you could run snes games on a potato

Hardware revisions of this nature make me uneasy though. Will it be worth buying the Switch at launch if the 'Switch Pro' is likely to turn up a couple of years down the line with better performance and a pile of exclusive content? The main advantage consoles used to have over PC was that whatever games you bought were guaranteed to be optimized for the system.

Re: Review: Ninja Five-O (GBA)

@Rontanamo_Bay I think it's worth pointing out the elephant in the room here: It is actually pretty easy to play the game, just not legally I saw a 21 game multi cart containing Ninja Cop on ebay once for like €20. And then of course there's emulation. Obviously I don't want to condone piracy here but the game is basically abandonware at this stage. If you buy a legit copy second hand the original devs won't receive any profit anyway.

Re: Review: Ninja Five-O (GBA)

@Rontanamo_Bay I feel your pain man. I've been trying to get hold of a copy of Faselei for the Neo Geo Pocket for an eternity, and I can only dream of owning Togepi's Great Adventure for Pokemon Mini (currently listed on ebay for €1,690.) Sadly retro gaming is an expensive hobby. My hope is that by giving games like Ninja Cop some exposure we might increase the chances of a re-release, or even a sequel somewhere down the line. Shantae for example, wouldn't have become the successful series it is today without the positive press coverage the first game received, both on its release and years after. Side note: is your username a parks and rec reference?

Re: Review: Ninja Five-O (GBA)

@Diskach I'm with you on Astro Boy, it's a phenomenal game. I was considering doing a write up for that one too. Unfortunately it's probably even less likely to get an eshop re-release than ninja cop because of the license. Mores the pity.
