I find it interesting that so many people prefer a traditional press event, but no one can articulate why. If the announcements are great, the format shouldn't matter.
Look at Apple, they stopped attending all trade shows, and now every announcement is headline news.
The Nintendo Direct videos are more polished and have been very entertaining, and they appeal to a wider audience.
My backlog is insane, so I'm going to try and play a bunch including Super Mario World 3D, Wind Waker HD, and Bravely Default. I'll also get my quick daily fix of Animal Crossing and Disney Magical World.
This is a decent launch for Gameboy Advance games on the "Virtual Console", the line-up is good and the price is acceptable.
It will be interesting to see how these games look on the Gamepad, and if Nintendo adds any extra features.
If Nintendo is smart, they will eventually release these games on the 3DS, and allow people to "buy once, play anywhere". Then they would have a hit on their hands.
I haven't backed a game yet, but I would absolutely back this one.
Raising 70 million would be impossible, but if it was setup like Veronica Mars, where the Kickstarter was used to gauge and then build interest for Warner Bros., then it could work.
They should also be re-releasing the first two games on every platform.
I agree that the original is the best by a wide margin, but I still enjoyed the other games. All the Star Wars films pale in comparison to 'The Empire Strikes Back', but I still enjoy watching the others.
My only point was: if you have enjoyed the series in the past, you're probably going to enjoy this one too.
I'd be very skeptical of this review, especially if you are a fan of the series. The Verge and Ars Technica both gave it excellent reviews. In fact, of the dozen or so reviews I've read only one other review had a score this low.
If you've enjoyed this series in the past, you should give it a shot. If you're the type of person who has to read good reviews before buying, at least read a review that considers the nature of the game and Nintendo's intentions. The Ars Technica review is a good example, it also helps that the reviewer is a huge fan of the original.
The "Yoshi's Island" franchise is different from Mario platformers, and should be reviewed accordingly. It sounds like if you enjoyed the past games, like the gameplay mechanics (shooting eggs and fluttering), and want to explore every nook and cranny of each level, you'll really enjoy this game too.
For me, this series is review-proof. Like everyone else. I loved the original, but I also thoroughly enjoyed Yoshi's Story and Yoshi's Island DS. And both of these had a significant number of bad reviews, especially Yoshi's Story. I play Mario platformers for the time limit and the high level of skill needed to survive the course. I play Yoshi's Island to explore the levels, and try for the perfect score. Two totally different games.
I received my Zelda version today and the quality is excellent. Both the case and cover art are much higher quality than the ones you get when you buy a game.
Is there anywhere online to buy a similar case, so we can use the extra covers.
I've still been playing Wii Sports (and Resort) golf. This new version is fantastic and worth every penny of the $9.99. The graphics look good, the new course layout is insane, and the Wii U gamepad adds a whole new dimension and depth to the gameplay. I will be sinking an insane amount of hours into this game.
Wii Sports Club Golf is so good it could sell systems. Nintendo needs to get this collection on disc soon, and promote the hell of the download codes at retail.
I hope other companies (including Nintendo) learn a few things from Sega when it comes to re-releasing old games. Sonic looks great, the 3D effect enhances the game, and the new features are great.
I'd still like to see re-releases treated more like a special edition DVDs. Give us things like:
original boxart
original instruction booklet
history of the development and launch of the game, interviews, etc
@ted-k You're not alone. Check any "deals" forum, and they are filled with people who suddenly decided to buy it, because of that price point. You'll also notice that no one regrets the purchase.
The only mistake Nintendo made with these new bundles is they should have included a Nintendo Land download, and possibly another game. This would have added more value, while costing them almost nothing.
Nintendo just has to keep getting this system in front of people, because people who have it, love it. There have been some incredible Wii U prices lately in Canada, so people are starting to buy it. Even people who aren't typically Nintendo fans or had previously written the system off, are surprised how much they are enjoying it.
The PS4 and Xbox One got all the hype this month, but neither have a game as good as Mario 3D World.
Bowling and Tennis are great, but Golf is the sport I want most. Has Nintendo hinted at a time frame for the other games?
Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort Golf didn't have all the features of a game like Tiger Woods, but it has the best gameplay of any golf game I've played. I still play it after all this time.
The new North American Wii U bundles are pretty good, and will help sales, but Nintendo should have included Nintendo Land as well. Including 2 or 3 games would do wonders for the perceived value, and I doubt they will be selling many more copies.
I'm glad to see this thread. I love the Wiimote pointer controls for first person shooters. I think the graphics and lack of online play are what held FPS games back on Wii. With Wii U, they aren't an issue. If Wii U players could play with PS3 owners, I think these games would sell a lot better.
I had zero interest in Ghosts, because I assumed it wouldn't support the Wiimote, now I'll probably get it.
Wow, tough crowd. I've only been playing Tennis for about an hour, and I'm impressed how well the game plays online. I had no problem finding games and it only lagged a couple times. The graphics are an improvement and everything they need to be for this type of game.
The MotionPlus support does add some depth to the game.
I spent hundreds of hours playing the original Wii Sports, and will enjoy this too. A bargain at $10.

Re: Rumour: Mario Golf: World Tour To Offer Additional Courses As Paid DLC
@takemeunder Why does DLC for a Mario sports game upset you? If the game is good, how can additional content be bad?
I'm all for Nintendo doing DLC, because they don't water down or hold back from the original release.
I loved getting the free extra courses for Wii Sports Club, and will gladly pay for more courses.

Re: Club Nintendo Rewards Updated for January
I'll get 1080 and F-Zero. Loved both games when they were released. I hope Nintendo adds Nintendo 64 games to the Wii U eShop soon.

I voted "Yeah, Definitely!" to every game on the list. Great list, and I'm sure we'll see a couple of them this year.

I know Nintendo is doing this in Europe because they are struggling there, but they should reward North American users once in awhile.

@element187 Couldn't agree more about Agassi. So fun to watch.
