Re: Editorial: Considering the Recipe For Successful Nintendo Remasters and Re-Releases

iKhan

Here's why I hate the idea of this game:

1. It's too early. Like you said, the original TP can still be played on Wii U. I don't think Nintendo has really given everyone the time to fully let Twilight Princess sink in on people. This also may have given them the chance to give it a full remaster rather than an HD coat of paint.

2. The improvements are sparse, and IMO "fix" the wrong things. The game is too easy, but the only fix they offered is the full hero mode, rather than fine tuning the damage different enemies do to you. I loved the tear collection quests, but I HATED the owl statue quest, which remains unaltered. The main improvement is graphics, which I don't care much about.

3. The lack of Wii Remote controls is either lazy or perplexing. The control scheme already exists. A flipped version of the game exists, why not just stick it in? Some people, including myself, prefer it.

4. The Amiibo functionality is highway robbery. No, TPHD is not worth 50 dollars on it's own. The cave of twilight needed to be a part of the package and not locked behind a paywall. Same with the 2nd difficulty increase with Ganondorf. What really scares me is that they are carrying this over to Zelda U.

Re: Mario History: Mario Kart Wii - 2008

I love this game. This is the game that actually taught me how to play Mario Kart properly.

Why? The Automatic feature. By including that, Nintendo essentially gave every player training wheels with which to get a hang of the basic concept of navigating the tracks.

Re: YouTube Stars Aren't Happy With Nintendo's Revenue-Sharing 'Creators Program'

iKhan

What everyone seems to be missing is that the creator's program in itself is nothing but a good thing. It's great that Nintendo is reaching out to the YouTube community and trying to support them.

The program is only a problem when it's combined with Nintendo claiming other videos not with their program, which, as far as I'm aware, they aren't doing right now.

Re: Review: Duck Hunt (Wii U eShop / NES)

@pubjoe
It's not just that. The Wii Remote isn't tracked in space, it's angle is tracked.

That said, considering that the light gun literally won't work on HD TVs, it's the best option a lot of people have for Duck Hunt, at least as long as Nintendo doesn't have a camera peripheral (not saying they should).

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May be Best as One of Two Consoles, Just Like Wii

iKhan

@BinaryFragger

I'm split on the XB1. While it's upcoming games blow the PS4 out of the water, hardware wise, I consider it to be one of the most unnecessary consoles of all time. If we lived in a world where every game was multiplat, then there would be almost no reason whatsoever to purchase an XB1, over a PS4, so in reality, the only reason the XB1 is as appealing as it is is because it's "holding games hostage"

Re: Talking Point: The Wii U May be Best as One of Two Consoles, Just Like Wii

iKhan

I think this article misses the mark a bit. The Wii still got a fair share of multiplats, and it functioned perfectly as an exclusive device. The Wii U is for Nintendo games, and only Nintendo games.

But even as a second console, the Wii U falls short. It's just too expensive, and doesn't really add any value beyond the games. $300+$400=$700 JUST on gaming hardware.

Last gen hardware was cheaper, and the Wii offered a completely brand new experience with motion controls. Add to that that it was a system that an entire family could enjoy.

Re: Video: Level-5's Wii U RPG Wonder Flick Gets A Gameplay-Laden Trailer

Man I love Level 5, they are really pushing the JRPG genre forward, and I hope that Lightning Returns will be enough to get the media to pay more attention to the genre (for some reason, Final Fantasy has become the only benchmark for the JRPG genre).

I'm not usualy a fan of turn based JRPG's but I might give this one a shot. Let's just hope it gets localized.

Re: Soapbox: Why Grand Theft Auto V Isn't For Me

iKhan

@HeatBombastic
I what I meant is each person has their own individual line beyond which they don't think playing a game is ethical any more. For myself and the author of this article, GTA is obviously beyond that line, but for a lot of people it's obviously not

Re: Soapbox: Why Grand Theft Auto V Isn't For Me

@K1LLEGAL
The problem arises in the fact that it IS a game, and that people are getting enjoyment out of simulating horrible things. Lets take an extreme hypothetical. Lets say there was a game where you played as a terrorist organization, and you had to nuke different cities and commit acts of terror. Does that sort of game sound okay to you? I doubt it.

Nearly all combat-based games involve taking enjoyment out of some sort of violence, even Nintendo games feature you killing poor animals and monsters. The place people differ is where you draw that line for something that just shouldn't be simulated for fun.

Re: Soapbox: Why Grand Theft Auto V Isn't For Me

@Royalblues He never said the game is bad. He said it's not for him. He just has different moral standards than a lot of people do, and the idea of committing horrible crimes in a game for fun doesn't sound right to him. He's not saying the game is bad or going into denial, he just has different tastes.

And have you ever considered that he shares his tastes with a lot of Nintendo fans? A lot of Nintendo fans love Nintendo because of its family friendly titles, so they naturally wouldn't be a fan of GTA. It's not that they are in denial telling themselves that they wouldn't want it even if it was on Wii U, it's that they genuinely don't like that type of game.

And I agree with that. I scoffed at the PS4 and XBOX One lineups. Not a single JPRG. Knack, Zoo Tycoon, and maybe Killer Instinct (because I have a soft spot for Fighting games) are the only games that really appealed to me. And it's not just Nintendo this stuff applies to, right now I'm looking into a PS3 in order to play Ni No Kuni, but I was very upset to see that the PS3 wasn't bundled with any game I was interested in.

Re: Soapbox: Why Grand Theft Auto V Isn't For Me

iKhan

I've never read an article I agree with so much. I just can't bring myself to play games in which you kill lots of people. I much prefer my games to treat death with a lot of care and sensitivity, ergo my love for JRPGs, which usually take death as a theme. GTA is the epitome of this violence, where you not only kill people, but you also gain enjoyment from raping and torturing others as well. I respect that other people like it, but it really does bother me that so many people eat up something that I find so morally objectionable.
