This is kind of ridiculous. Only available on New Nintendo 3DS (which I have, so it's not even that I can't get them), AND the price is outrageous. I was fully prepared to go buy Super Mario World right now, pop onto the eShop and what do I see? Friggin' 9.99 (11.29 with exchange rate here). For a game I already have on my Wii and Wii U, meaning I have already spent that much to get it on two other systems. This is actually ridiculous. They REALLY need to adjust their marketing strategy when dealing with virtual console games.
I have always wanted to have A Link to the Past on a handheld, so I may not be able to resist that one. But I can't justify buying any more of these. I'm seriously getting sick of Nintendo's crap when it comes to virtual console.
My favourite thing is that in the first video he is wearing a Where's Waldo shirt. This guy clearly has a great sense of humour haha. Absolutely amazing!
It's a great game, and I bought it because I was very excited for it. But, I DO think it was priced too high. Don't get me wrong, I think they make great games that are a lot of fun and I don't like saying they don't deserve to charge a decent price for their product. But a DS game on Wii U is $9.99. I realize this is remastered version of a DS game and not a port. But it's not... sooooooo different that it's worth the 14.99 or, as it is here in Canada, 17.99. Yes I paid $20 for the game and I love it. But it was absolutely overpriced.
I think a big problem here is that the word "remastered" is a bit misleading / people are misinterpreting its meaning. What this company has been doing is updating old games so that they can run smoothly on newer systems and properly match modern resolutions. The Turok series is one of my favourites and I am very excited to be able to play these classics again in a more comfortable way! I hope they do Rage Wars too!
If anyone is familiar with Unreal Tournament, that is a great example of the sort of "remastering" that this company is doing. Epic continued (and I think still continues) to patch that game so that it can be played on newer systems. Last I recall Unreal Tournament can fit a 1920x1080 screen and still controls wonderfully on PC. This is essentially what is happening here with Turok. A much needed update!
Wow, really creeped out by some of the repsonses to this, moreso than I am creeped out by the original outfit this character is in. I realize that bikini outfits are part of this game, but that is just RIDICULOUS. It's hard enough to buy that a character is fighting mechs in a bikini, even more so difficult to buy that they're fighting in tiny pieces of thread. Disgusting, creepiness aside - the original looks stupid as hell. Much prefer the changes they made.
And I'm generally not in favour of censorship in localization either. But this is just ridiculous.
Honestly, I'm undoubtedly more excited than he is, but mostly because I love designing levels and have dreamed of having a tool to create super mario levels since I was 3. I used to get graph paper and draw out my own level ideas
However, I love his excitement, and how legitimate his excitement is. Like, you can tell how excited he is because he's not really doing a good job of doing his job haha . He can barely news anchor he's so excited.
Honestly, the reaction is SO stupid. If they announce no game for a franchise, people get mad that their franchise has been ignored. If they announce a new game in a franchise, it's not good enough. If they announce a new game for a franchise in a different style, then there is rage. There's no winning.
I don't care if a new game in a franchise isn't exactly like every other game in the series. It's a new game that looks fun. Nothing else should matter. It's not like they can't release another Metroid game just because these are coming out.
Honestly, I'm excited for everything they showed. Don't really care that insert title here wasn't shown or announced. Everything else looked good, and that's all I care about.
Though on the plus side, the plot of the game DOES actually make the title seem like it makes sense. I won't say why because spoilers, but there is plot to support it being the "Final Fantasy".
@StarDust4Ever I do realize that you can replace the save battery - but I don't really see buying and replacing the save batteries as being a better option than just having a digital copy that works. But like I said, it's just my preference, and I'm not worried about one day not being able to play any of my games, because I am confident there will always be a way for me to play them.
Honestly, digital, overall, just makes more sense. Yes, you may be able to plug in your old system and it will still run those cartridges. But physical copies of games have the downside of being a physical object that over time will degrade. Save batteries die. Discs degrade and stop working. I love having my copy of Super Mario RPG on the SNES - I rented it from the video store for years before they finally sold all of their SNES games and the copy I had played for so long was now mine.
But now the save battery is dead. I still have the cartridge because it has incredible sentimental value. But I also have Super Mario RPG on the virtual console, because if I actually want to play the game that is my only option. Meanwhile trying to buy a new cartridge for that game is going to run me a lot of money. Far more than the $8 on the eShop.
Of course, there IS always a concern that a company will go under and digital games will be lost. Nintendo, Steam... I have literally hundreds of digital games that I DO have backed up, but it would suck if those services went under and there was a risk of me losing that data. I really do suspect, though, that won't be a problem. While gaming has had a rocky history when it comes to the stability of companies, I think overall the industry is going so strong that we won't have to worry.
And even if those companies DO go under, I'm pretty confident someone will have a solution for us. Though I SHOULD note, that I am saying this as a gamer, and not a collector. I don't really care for collecting things, so really in the end I just want to be able to find a way to play the games I love, and I'm pretty confident there will always be a way for me to do that. For a collector, I could see there being some cause for concern over the fragility of not JUST digital games, but physical ones as well.
They all stop working eventually. And that's a hard pill to swallow.
@Koto - But it's not a lost sale - that person would NEVER HAVE BOUGHT THE GAME ANYWAY. Yes, I am, in a way defending those who pirate. It's simple logic - people who pirate games, ESPECIALLY on a system (as opposed to on a PC), ESPECIALLY in the case of eShop games, would never have bought that game in the first place. If they WERE willing to EVER buy the game - they're SO CHEAP that they would just buy it. I refuse to believe that someone would actually think to themselves "Oh man, Pushmo / Mutant Mudds / Gunman Clive looks like such a cool game! But man... $8? / $2? That's REALLY going to hurt my wallet. I better steal it." I absolutely refuse to believe that pirating harms sales - it's all bull**** that companies make up because they don't like that certain individuals aren't paying for the content. Sorry, they wouldn't have paid for it EITHER WAY. Plain and simple.
I think what I find most frustrating about this standpoint is that the majority of games that this developer makes are eShop releases that are less than $10. Anybody who pirates a game that is only $10 NEVER INTENDED TO BUY IT IN THE FIRST PLACE. The people who plan to buy the game, will, because it's a quality game at a small fraction of the cost of a full retail release. I find it odd that developers are always blind to... simple logic. It's like they think we don't have brains and that if something's available for free we're all just going to start breaking our systems so we can steal everything.
I think this is my biggest issue with copyright law and developer's opinions on pirating: they're so worried about losing money that they instantly fear that we're all thieves who will do anything to get a game for free. Arg. Arg arg arg.
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, I REALLY don't think piracy affects sales as much as developers like to think it does, and I find it very disappointing that RK would be as silly as to decide not to develop for the system. EVERY SYSTEM WILL GET HACKED. Why even bother developing at all if you're afraid of that?
At the same time: there are a lot of things I believe piracy can provide that companies are selfishly not willing to, such as issues with region locks, that I think are actually important issues, when it comes to CERTAIN media. HAVING SAID THAT: the mentality of THESE kinds of hackers, and the general public when it comes to hacking tools, quite simply pisses me off.
They're basically saying that they bought a system that they don't want to play the games for. Why on earth would you spend money on a system if it has nothing to offer you without it being hacked? I can understand if you're using piracy to make available to you a TV show or song that you can't purchase normally in your region, or even to play games you can't otherwise play (whether because they're too old or hard to find or whatever) ON YOUR COMPUTER - but to buy a gaming system and essentially "break" it so you can play games on it that aren't FOR it... confusing.
I am actually so strangely excited for this. This may seem weird but this is totally the type of game my friends and I would spend far too much time playing. >_>
@NintendoCat14: One main point you made in your post that I must agree with: why is Cave Story not on this list? Not only is it an amazing game, the 3DS eShop version is by far the best version of the game available anywhere, in my opinion. And it's definitely better than VVVVVV and Mighty Switch Force, which are both games I love - so that's saying a lot!
Definitely a pretty decent list, though some of it does seem a bit... off...
Theatrhythm and Resident Evil in particular... I think a large amount of the appeal of those games is to fans of the series', and I don't know if someone new to either series would be getting much out of either game.
Also I think the "Fallblox/Crashmo" entry should really just say "Fallblox and Pullblox/Crashmo and Pushmo", because I personally can't imagine having one without the other/
I have this on my Wii... and on a little plug and play machine... but I will still be getting it on my 3DS... YAY Nintendo take ALL of my monies, I don't need it for anything! xD
I'm also not very surprised. All the hype the game was getting was making me think that maybe my initial perception of the game was incorrect, but this basically sums up what I thought when I saw the first trailer.
It just didn't look like there was... enough game. And with Denpa Men available... this just feels pointless!
I will be getting the digital verison of Paper Mario but not right away - going to wait until probably around Christmas time, since I have a lot of other expenses right now, and don't have time to sink into an RPG. Plus I would like to play through 1000 Year Door and Super Paper Mario first, neither of which I ever finished playing through (Whoops! silly University getting in the way of my gaming!)
Though I will be trying that Epic Mickey demo for sure. I wasn't planning on getting Ninja Gaiden but I'm sad it's not out. The rest of their VC schedule better not get effed up!
Did it specifically say they are Mario and Zelda characters? If I were to guess I would say they're Pokemon. I totally see an Arcanine and either a Bulbasaur or an Ivysaur on the right. Not sure about the left though.
I don't care what your opinion on his music might be, but this kids works SO freakin' hard for his fans, and you have to admire that. I've never worked half as hard for anything in my entire life - as far as celebrities go, I think he's earned a lot of what he's received. (Though I do think our society pays celebrities WAY too much for the work they do, but as far as his fame and fans are concerned, he works his ass off for it so I think it's deserved.)
Does anybody else giggle inappropriately at the title of this game and Come on! Heroes? Like... if that exclamation point weren't there... DIRTY MIND lol.
I think the assertion that Quarth is like a cross between Tetris and Space Invaders is a bit off. Space Invaders yes, but Tetris no. Looks more like a cross between Pictobits and Spave Invaders. Looks fun though, might pick it up, but I'mma wait for a review. DENPA MEN HERE I COME!
I would love to have something like this. Though in general I do like owning books, eBooks are such a nice discount, but I can't read them on a computer. Being able to get eBooks on my 3DS would be amazing. I think I just need to get some sort of device that already has this . Still, if it were on the 3DS that would be heaven.
Honestly, I must say this is yet another review of Philip's I disagree with. I think the gameplay of this game is pretty awesome. I haven't experienced any of these unavoidable obstacles, and I've been playing it quite a bit.
The biggest issue I have with this game is the hideous menus. The menus don't make a lot of sense and are very unattractive, and then when you hit "Play" there seems to be a slight lag that makes me wonder if I pressed it or not.
Yaaaaaaay I'm so excited! I looked online to see what games were coming out on Thursday, as I always do, and I saw "Rising Board 3D". So at first m response was "meh". Then I read "odenis studios" and basically pooped a brick! I am so excited for this!
It mentions random enemies, traps, and bonus items. Are the maps randomly/procedurally generated as well? I really hope so! If so I will definitely pick this up.
I've already been celebrating! This summer I have played through FF1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. I am currently playing 2, 4: The After Years, and 7. 2 I should be finished soon, followed by The After Years, then 7.
After that if I still feel like playing FF I will move on to 8 and 9! Then we'll see from there!
Haha I know this is a silly thing to fuss about, but I don't know if you can say something like "Remember <insert game title here>? It was..." about a game that's only a year old. It makes it sound like it's a retro title or something. If you don't remember this game you suffer from some form of memory loss.
Can someone clear this up for me: it LOOKS like the only combat they keep showing is PvP. Any word on what non-PvP combat is going to be like? Because that will make or break the game for me.
Well, seeing those videos, I have made up my mind. I'm going to start learning BASIC lol. I was planning on studying C++ in my spare time, but with this awesome tool coming our way...
I know BASIC is one a lot of actual computer programming courses start you off with anyway, so get ready people! I plan to produce some quality game for y'all! I am now SUPER pumped for this!
Honestly, this is the type of thing that, regardless of how good or bad it is, I could spend HOURS wasting time on. DEFINITELY going to get this DAY ONE. It could be utter crap and I will still be playing around with it for weeks.
@Squiggle55: Haha obviously I know you were speaking about your own personal opinion on the genre, I just find it odd that you would judge the "purpose" of a game to be anything other than to entertain. But I also realize that I don't in any way value leaderboards - they have pretty much always meant nothing to me. So it's probably best for us to agree to disagree .
I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with most of what I'm reading here.
I do agree with one point: the menu is very annoying.
I think the issue of bombs not showing up frequently enough is just a matter of good planning. On one hand, luck is a bit of a factor, but at the same time, the only situations I've been in where I've been desperate for a bomb and haven't received one is in a situation where I've let one side of the board stack up with blocks, and I don't see how you can blame the game for that: if you manage well and strategize you can easily manage. I don't think I've ever actually had a time where I lost because I just kept getting blocks unfairly - generally it's due to a poorly placed bomb or missing a combo or arrow block when I should have hit it.
Also, I'm surprised that so many people feel there's no point to a puzzle game if there is no online leader board. I think the point to a puzzle game is to have fun. Does it really matter that much to you how you compare to other players?
9/10 for me - I don't care about leader boards, because a game is meant for having fun, and I think the issue of blocks needing to be detonated to remove them is part of the challenge of the game, not a mistake.
Man, I have TOO many games to play this month! Getting Theatrhythm next week, though I know I plan to buy Heroes of Ruin and can't see why I wouldn't, I definitely plan to play the demo. Just got Bomb Monkey, and assuming the second virtual console game that is released next week is something I want... just... so much! I also want all four GameBoy games coming out this month. Man, it's like Nintendo knows my birthday is coming up
Currently I am playing Diablo 2 (I'm not at home, so I don't have my desktop to play D3 on) Bomb Monkey, and the first Final Fantasy. I'm replaying some of the games in the series I've given less attention to in anticipation of Theatrhythm!
w00t! Just got Donkey Kong! I have the cartridge, so I didn't want to buy it, and I was hoping all week that this would be the game they put up! And it was! AND it's cheap enough that I was still able to order the Mario 3DS Pouch!
EDIT: Make that 14 games in one. I didn't realize there were more versions of "Ball". Plus so much more, now that I think about it! This game is massive!
I'm a bit confused by this review! You don't seem to point out any negatives about the game but then give it an 8/10! I would give this game a 9 easily: the games are very addictive and whether you want to aim for the high score or just aim to unlock everything, there is a lot to do! The game is basically 11 games in one! In fact, the modern versions of Parachute, Helmet, and Chef alone make it worth the cost!
Not saying this was a bad review, I'm just wondering what your reasoning was for it not getting two more points, because I don't think it's clear!
I will be buying this instantly! I know it's super cheap on iDevices or something, but I don't have one of those, and this so obviously is a game that I want to have in 3D!

Did it specifically say they are Mario and Zelda characters? If I were to guess I would say they're Pokemon. I totally see an Arcanine and either a Bulbasaur or an Ivysaur on the right. Not sure about the left though.
Re: Justin Bieber Surprises Just Dance 4 Fans
I don't care what your opinion on his music might be, but this kids works SO freakin' hard for his fans, and you have to admire that. I've never worked half as hard for anything in my entire life - as far as celebrities go, I think he's earned a lot of what he's received. (Though I do think our society pays celebrities WAY too much for the work they do, but as far as his fame and fans are concerned, he works his ass off for it so I think it's deserved.)
Re: This Real Life Tanooki Suit is a Bit Strange
I think it's wonderful! I signed up to received an e-mail when the XL is back in stock! xD
Re: Come On! Dragons Stomping onto DSiWare Soon
Does anybody else giggle inappropriately at the title of this game and Come on! Heroes? Like... if that exclamation point weren't there... DIRTY MIND lol.
Re: Nintendo Download: 27th September 2012 (North America)
I think the assertion that Quarth is like a cross between Tetris and Space Invaders is a bit off. Space Invaders yes, but Tetris no. Looks more like a cross between Pictobits and Spave Invaders. Looks fun though, might pick it up, but I'mma wait for a review. DENPA MEN HERE I COME!
Re: 3DS "Bookstore Anywhere" App Bringing eBooks to Japan
I would love to have something like this. Though in general I do like owning books, eBooks are such a nice discount, but I can't read them on a computer. Being able to get eBooks on my 3DS would be amazing. I think I just need to get some sort of device that already has this . Still, if it were on the 3DS that would be heaven.
Re: Review: Rising Board 3D (3DS eShop)
Honestly, I must say this is yet another review of Philip's I disagree with. I think the gameplay of this game is pretty awesome. I haven't experienced any of these unavoidable obstacles, and I've been playing it quite a bit.
The biggest issue I have with this game is the hideous menus. The menus don't make a lot of sense and are very unattractive, and then when you hit "Play" there seems to be a slight lag that makes me wonder if I pressed it or not.
But once the actual game is going, I love it!
Re: Rising Board 3D
Yaaaaaaay I'm so excited! I looked online to see what games were coming out on Thursday, as I always do, and I saw "Rising Board 3D". So at first m response was "meh". Then I read "odenis studios" and basically pooped a brick! I am so excited for this!
Re: DSiWare RPG 18th Gate Opens For Business Soon
It mentions random enemies, traps, and bonus items. Are the maps randomly/procedurally generated as well? I really hope so! If so I will definitely pick this up.
Re: Many Happy Returns, Final Fantasy - You're 25 This Year
I've already been celebrating!
Re: The Binding of Isaac Creator Still Thinks the Game Could Come to 3DS
Haha I know this is a silly thing to fuss about, but I don't know if you can say something like "Remember <insert game title here>? It was..." about a game that's only a year old. It makes it sound like it's a retro title or something. If you don't remember this game you suffer from some form of memory loss.
Re: Travel Across the Galaxies with Planet Crashers' New Trailer
Can someone clear this up for me: it LOOKS like the only combat they keep showing is PvP. Any word on what non-PvP combat is going to be like? Because that will make or break the game for me.
Re: Nintendo Download: 19th July 2012 (North America)
Wooo! Kid Icarus and Petit Computer for me today, possibly Tumblepop as well!
Re: Petit Computer Lets You Make Games on Your DSi and 3DS
@Morphtroid:
Re: Petit Computer Lets You Make Games on Your DSi and 3DS
Honestly, this is the type of thing that, regardless of how good or bad it is, I could spend HOURS wasting time on. DEFINITELY going to get this DAY ONE. It could be utter crap and I will still be playing around with it for weeks.
Re: Review: Bomb Monkey (3DS eShop)
@Squiggle55: Haha obviously I know you were speaking about your own personal opinion on the genre, I just find it odd that you would judge the "purpose" of a game to be anything other than to entertain. But I also realize that I don't in any way value leaderboards - they have pretty much always meant nothing to me. So it's probably best for us to agree to disagree .
Re: Review: Bomb Monkey (3DS eShop)
Re: Heroes of Ruin Demo Hits North America Next Week
Man, I have TOO many games to play this month! Getting Theatrhythm next week, though I know I plan to buy Heroes of Ruin and can't see why I wouldn't, I definitely plan to play the demo. Just got Bomb Monkey, and assuming the second virtual console game that is released next week is something I want... just... so much! I also want all four GameBoy games coming out this month. Man, it's like Nintendo knows my birthday is coming up
Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Two
Currently I am playing Diablo 2 (I'm not at home, so I don't have my desktop to play D3 on) Bomb Monkey, and the first Final Fantasy. I'm replaying some of the games in the series I've given less attention to in anticipation of Theatrhythm!
Re: June's Club Nintendo Rewards are Here
w00t! Just got Donkey Kong! I have the cartridge, so I didn't want to buy it, and I was hoping all week that this would be the game they put up! And it was! AND it's cheap enough that I was still able to order the Mario 3DS Pouch!
Re: Review: Game & Watch Gallery 2 (3DS eShop)
EDIT: Make that 14 games in one. I didn't realize there were more versions of "Ball". Plus so much more, now that I think about it! This game is massive!
Re: Review: Game & Watch Gallery 2 (3DS eShop)
I'm a bit confused by this review! You don't seem to point out any negatives about the game but then give it an 8/10! I would give this game a 9 easily: the games are very addictive and whether you want to aim for the high score or just aim to unlock everything, there is a lot to do! The game is basically 11 games in one! In fact, the modern versions of Parachute, Helmet, and Chef alone make it worth the cost!
Not saying this was a bad review, I'm just wondering what your reasoning was for it not getting two more points, because I don't think it's clear!
Re: Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon
Oh-ho-ho yes! I love this entire series. Will definitely be getting this one!
Re: SpeedX 3D
I will be buying this instantly! I know it's super cheap on iDevices or something, but I don't have one of those, and this so obviously is a game that I want to have in 3D!
