Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

hylianhalcyon

@CountWavula Because a console needs to have some sort of drastic change to the controller to be able to have innovative games, right? Like when the NES had that innovative controller consisting of only a few buttons and a D-pad and popped out games like Zelda and Super Mario Bros. Or when the SNES defined innovation by adding a few more buttons and giving gamers Super Mario World and Chrono Trigger.

Re: Soapbox: Even With The Arrival Of PS4 And Xbox One, I'd Still Pick The Wii U

hylianhalcyon

Do people realize yet that developers can innovate in games without having to use a touchscreen on a controller? Hell, Nintendo used to innovate with two buttons and a D-pad. My point being that the people saying this next gen is going to have all the same games except for what's on WiiU don't have a clue what they're talking about.

The more power of the Xbone and PS4 isn't just going to be used for graphics. They'll be able to have better AI, bigger worlds, etc. because of it. The Wiiu is in that same position really. Graphically it's not a gigantic leap forward from the Wii, but the added horsepower will allow them to do more with the game design.

@AltDotNerd It was also pure hype that sold the WiiU at launch, because it sure as heck didn't have any system sellers then, and it still likely doesn't now.

Re: Super Mario 3D World Underwhelms on Japanese Chart Début

@Peach64 Well said. Unfortunately I don't believe this game is going to post amazing numbers in other regions as well. The numbers won't be abysmal, but certainly not system seller worthy. Which brings me to my next point, I don't see this game being a system seller. One game isn't enough reason for most people to go out and spend a few hundred on a system. And except for the most hardcore Nintendo fans, there really isn't anything else on WiiU right now worth buying.

This system definitely looks like it'll be more in line with the gamecube in terms of sales.

Re: First Impressions: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

@SparkOfSpirit: Perhaps (even though I'm not really talking metroid prime specifically, but just anything that has fresh ideas and attracts people outside hardcore nintendo fans), but I'm willing to bet a new metroid game that really showcases the WiiU as a next gen console would attract more new people to the wiiu than this Donkey Kong game will.

And that's the problem, it's a safe bet sure, but a safe bet isn't going to get people to buy the console that were on the fence. It'll sell good to the people that already own a wiiu, but it won't make many more people go out and buy one.

Re: First Impressions: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze

I love all of these comments about people not liking negativity from the site recently. Yes, we will all enjoy the games they showcased, but none of them are a killer app title that WiiU desperately needs to boost its sales. I loved DKCR, it's my favorite platformer ever, but the new one in no way entices me to go out and buy a Wiiu, and if it won't entice me, I have a feeling it won't entice many beyond the hardcore nintendo fandom.

A lot of us wanted them to unveil a game, no matter the IP, that would take full advantage of the WiiU and use it in new and fresh ways that would make people want to buy the system, and they didn't do that.

Re: Poll: Which Wii U E3 Game Has Impressed You the Most?

hylianhalcyon

X by far. After playing Xenoblade and then seeing the trailers for X, I am the most hyped up I've been for a game in a long time.

I found the footage of the new Smash bros. to be ultimately disappointing. That's not to say I'm not going to love the game, but right now it looks like they just took Brawl's engine and threw in some new characters to make a trailer. Not very impressed with what I've seen of it so far.

Re: Feature: Series Reboots That Have Divided Gamers

hylianhalcyon

Other M is kind of like the star wars prequels of the gaming world in my eyes. In both cases a director tries his hand at writing, and in both cases utterly fails. And yet, in both cases people stand by them and even hold them up as superior to other entries in their respective series.

Re: Zelda: Skyward Sword is Half Finished, says Miyamoto

hylianhalcyon

Yeah, I don't understand the title for this article. You even quote in it that he said "over half complete," then omit the word "over" in the title. :/

I believe this game is going to hit before Christmas, and I also believe this game is over 51% done, unless they decided to change up a lot of things they originally wanted. This game has been in development since about the time of TP release, which was 2006.

Re: First BIT.TRIP FLUX Screenshots

hylianhalcyon

@LittleIrves: I definitely agree. I've always had more of a preference for the more abstract Bit.Trip, and it's one of the draws of the series for me. With Runner and Fate, playing as corporeal Commander Video is just missing a certain appeal that the first three games had, and the cutscenes in them seem less abstract too(except for maybe those comic strips in Fate).

Re: Features: Don't Touch my Samus: Metroid's Controversial Turn

hylianhalcyon

@Metroid_Fan: Seriously? Way to pass off the great points he makes by saying he is "reading way to much into the psychological aspects of the story."

I gotta love these people saying this is the way they always envisioned Samus. They are completely fooling themselves for the sake of defending a favorite franchise. No, I did not envision Samus as a hard as steel bad-a**, but neither did I envision her anywhere near the mess they made of her in Other M. Read TheGameSquids post, he nails it.

Re: Features: Don't Touch my Samus: Metroid's Controversial Turn

hylianhalcyon

This was certainly a good read, nice job. My opinion of Other M seems to constantly be changing. One moment I'll at least like certain parts of it, and other times I'll wonder in disbelief how they got it so wrong.

People interested in this stuff should read the article @JackMack posted, it's a very good read, as was this article.

Re: Reggie Wonders Where Metroid: Other M Sales Went Wrong

hylianhalcyon

When an entry in a quality series is released, especially a Nintendo series, expectations are always very high, and Other M didn't come near them for pretty much everyone. I believe if the same game was done but with a different IP, there really wouldn't be anyone saying they like it as much as they do. I think the reason it didn't sell good is because Metroid generally isn't a big seller, and then the fact that it simply isn't as good as previous entries. The people that pushed Prime 3 to a million units sold didn't buy this game.

Re: Cave Story Update Now Available

hylianhalcyon

@8: I have that same bug, so I too hope it's fixed. The weird thing for me though was that it would only happen the first time I went in an Outer Wall door in a file. Once I reset and went back, it was all fine. Even so, it was really annoying, and quite jarring.

Re: Sakamoto Wants to Know Your Metroid: Other M Thoughts

hylianhalcyon

I suppose I wouldn't mind if they made a game using the same style engine as Other M. But then get rid of the story, terrible voice acting, and linearity. I would rather they make just a straight up 2D Metroid, or another Prime.

@cyrus_zuo: I really disagree with you. Games stand out by being different, but it all depends on how good they do it. Other M's execution was definitely not as good as it could have been I think.

Re: Review: Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube)

hylianhalcyon

Overall I think I like Brawl is a bit better, though both are absolute greatness.

Every once in a while me and a group of friends get together and play Brawl. Some of you people saying it's shallow should witness just how competitive it can get.

Re: Review: Metroid: Other M (Wii)

hylianhalcyon

I'm not too far in the game yet, but I'm really enjoying. The whole switching to first person has worked great for me so far, and once you get over the initial awkwardness of moving with the D-Pad, the controls are great.

Re: Yes, There Really Is a Zelda Master Timeline Document

hylianhalcyon

@adamical: That was what I was going to say. I believe it was Aonuma who confirmed the Zelda time line isn't linear, due to Link being sent back at the end of OoT. Leaving a Hyrule without Link, which leads to WW, and then the other one having Link go off to Termina, thus a split time line. Other than that I'm not really sure, except for that ST is after PH which is after WW.

Also, some time ago(like years ago, I forget when), Miyamoto confirmed OoT to be the first in the time line. However, this was before Minish Cap, which fits much better to that title. Due to a number of reasons, including no Ganon and the first time in which the hero touts the green cap, which becomes a hallmark of all heroes after.
