You know, I never understood why RGB lighting became something associated with gaming.
If you like the aesthetic, cool. Go for it. But for me, never would I ever buy something like this. Random lights eating away at my controller battery? No, thanks (and yes, I know thatās negligible but still).
And it also looks unbelievably tacky to me. Iām specifically talking about RGB lighting here. Some tasteful lighting that fits the color scheme of whatever itās built into? Thatās actually pretty cool.
If anything Iād actually prefer a full blown remake in the style of Dragon Quest XI.
Reason being that to me, HD-2D is getting worse and worse. Compare DQIII to Octopath. DQIII has character sprites running around in a generic 3D environment while the Octopath games have beautiful environments that actually match the 16-bit look of the character sprites.
I rarely see anybody talk about this, so I guess itās not an issue for most people but for me, I hate it.
On the other hand, if a potential HD-2D remake of Chrono Trigger does happen and itās in the vein of the Octopath games, Iād love it.
@samuelvictor Thanks for clearing that up! I thought that there might be regional differences.
I still have a lot of my toys from the original movie but I canāt really remember what the packaging looked like at all. Also, Iām from Europe, so thereās that.
I sadly lack the space to put a decently sized CRT in my living room.
Cost aside, I think the NT mini is the best way for a modern TV. Everything Iāve played so far runs perfectly and looks gorgeous. Same goes for the Super NT and Pocket.
I just wish Analogue would make it easier for people to actually buy their hardware. Iāve been lucky so far to get my orders in for the systems I care about but I donāt get their limited production attitude. I mean, sure. Theyāre a small company and sitting on unsold stuck sucks but thatās such an easy problem to fix. Let people order whatever they want and once you have x number of orders, order x amount of units for production. Done. Or even easier, do batch runs of production based on previous demand, let them sell out, repeat.
So many people complain about the collecting aspect of this game. I get that it bothers you if thatās simply not your jam. But it just makes me laugh when I think about how much people praise Mario Odyssey for āhaving so much to discoverā.
@dimi Well, maybe thatās because Analogue has a track record of delivering great products.
Iām a firm believer in the concept of being a fan of a product, not itās brand. That being said, I own a lot of Analogueās products and so far none of them has been disappointing. Pocket may very well be the first one. So far, Analogue has never made an original controller or screen, so weāll have to wait and see. But if their past build quality is any indication, Iām optimistic.
@sanderev True and Iām not saying otherwise. But not being able to fix issues with a game via patches later has itās benefits is what Iām saying. I feel like the industry takes advantage of patches in a really bad way. Just look at the amount of day-one patches and barely playable games being released. Back before patching was possible I feel like quality control standards were a lot higher. Simply due to the fact that if you shipped a broken game, that was it. No one would buy it, so devs needed to make sure that wouldnāt happen. Then, thereās also the issue of unfinished games in terms of content now.
Okay, I have a question to all the Pikmin fans: This is a series of games that I never got into. I havenāt played a single second of any Pikmin game. Now, would this third game be fine as an entry point or does it require having played the first two to enjoy/understand it?
@spurryitboi Really? 20 years ago? Thatād be a year BEFORE Majoraās Mask came out.
I mean, you donāt have to like it or anything but donāt be ridiculous. That was a time way before HD screens and before things like SMW or SMB3 was considered āretroā. Not to mention the fact that technology wasnāt even remotely able to produce anything like this.
That being said, if the Odyssey levels are just reskinned versions of the SMW3D levels, fine. Whatever.
Although, I gotta say: 3D World is a really underrated game. I mean, I loved SM64 and Mario Galaxy and I like how Nintendo separates 3D Mario and classic side-scrolling Mario. But while I liked Odyssey I donāt really get all the overwhelmingly positive press it gets. I mean, Iāve read a lot of articles claiming it to be one of, if not the best Mario game of all time. I know that is very subjective but while weāre on the subject, I always felt 3D World to be the far better game. I loved the way it jumped in difficulty when reaching the bonus worlds, not to mention Championās Road.
And despite all the (admittedly cool) fan service in Odyssey, I really missed an actual challenge. Plus, the amount of moons, to me, felt like it was just meant to keep you busy without offering any real motivation. Like the Korok Seeds in BotW.
Anyway, sorry for rambling on so much. Just something I had to get out.

Nah, thanks.
Iāll be waiting for the inevitable Navi drone that hovers around me and tells me to listen every 3 seconds.

tl;dr To each their own, not for me.

This looks so wrong to me.
