@Asterix615 I'm not sure you can call a game "divisive" when the vast majority of players and critics rate it a 9 or 10 out of 10...

But yes, it is true that for the small minority of players who were disappointed with Silksong but were fans of Hollow Knight, the increased difficulty is by far the most cited criticism. In fact, there is very little else that could be criticized unless the player was already not fond of the type of gameplay found in Metroidvanias.

@T3CH54MUR14 Having not played either SaGa Frontier game, can you give me a few reasons why you consider 1 to be so vastly superior to 2?

I'm already aware of a few details about Unlimited SaGa and Emerald Beyond that really turned me off from ever trying either one. The only SaGa game I've played is the recent remake of Romancing SaGa 2 which I thought was an A- or an A, but from what I've heard it does a way better job explaining its mechanics than basically any previous SaGa game, and games (especially RPGs) being intentionally obtuse is one of my pet peeves.

@Pillowpants It sounds like you've got ~ 400 hours worth of S-tier JRPG gameplay in that backlog! I loved SMTV:V and P5R (I recommend the Hard mode difficulty over Normal / Merciless).

I really want to get my hands on XC2, XC2: Torna, and XC3, but money is so tight right now, and with the DLC for XC3 added in, that's like $200. Maybe someday... sigh

Re: Review: Nine Sols (Switch) - An Intense Metroidvania That's Still A Treat On Switch

@N8tiveT3ch That'd be perfectly fine with me if Nintendo released more than 1 2D Metroid game a decade, but alas... we need these games to fill the gap. Hollow Knight is on par with Dread for me, probably my 2 favorite MVs of all time (Edit: to be clear, Super Metroid and CV:SoTN were and still are amazing for their time - I grew up playing them - and their influence is difficult to overstate - but HK and Dread provide smooth controls and exhilarating gameplay while maintaining the sense of atmosphere and exploration that makes this genre my favorite).

I was really hoping you guys would review this (and that it would turn out to be a good game) because I was looking through my eShop wishlist last week and realized that this game was coming out soon. I remember the day I saw the trailer for the Switch port in a Nintendo Direct sometime last Spring or Summer - it looked like exactly the type of Roguelite / Sandbox type game I would really enjoy, and I went on the eShop and added it to my Wishlist that same day!

I've been excited for this one for a while. If you enjoy Metroidvanias, I invite you check out the r/Metroidvania subreddit! That's where I first heard of this game, and the game's developer (whose previous game, Islets, is also a MV, and a damn fine one at that!) posts somewhat regularly, quite often as just another Metroidvania living Redditor giving his two cents on a topic or a game.
