Re: E3 Nintendo Direct Date and Time Confirmed

bassoongoon

I'm excited! I pre-ordered my Wii U, so I got it back in November. So far I have only got 5 games. Not much besides what I have has appealed to me. Kind of sucks that we have had to wait almost a year (in the case of Pikmin) or longer (in the case of Wind Waker HD, Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics, Sonic Lostworld, etc...). Still, not much that can be done about it so I guess I will have to be patient!

@gohanrage
"I don't like the Extra Weapons in the GC and Wii Versions"

This is my main problem with Mario Kart. Don't get me wrong, I love the series. However it is becoming to weapon-heavy, and less of the focus is on racing skill. One reason I really enjoyed Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed was because weapons did not play an obnoxiously integral role in the game.

"Where some say the Wii U is to weak for the NG. I believe the PS4 and Xbox One is too much. These to new consoles are going to cost A LOT! All the features on the new Xbox One, cool sure, but that's not why I buy a "video game console". Still about the games in my opinion and of course about the pricing of the hardware, but in my head Sony and Microsoft won't let their consoles go easy. I think Nintendo will cut the prices on the Wii U 1 or 2 months before the PS4 and Xbox One roll out into stores. Smart move imo. "

I agree with what you have to say here. PS4 and X-box One are overkill. They are going to be EXPENSIVE. A price cut a little before those guys come out would be a brilliant plan for Nintendo. I would be surprised if the 'N' does not cut the MSRP of Wii U by $50 before the competition is released.

"The Enemy, this generation, is the smart-device. Androids, iPhones, and Ouya!
I try not to antagonize, but a lot of reasons for buying/not buying consoles are simply "it's powerfuller", I heard it only does this, or something un-knowledgable. "Just Because" isn't a reason.
Since when was there a console 'placing' system? What factors would you put in to rate these places? Is it like rating movies? Is it based on opinions, or sales?"

I would not go as far as to say that those platforms are the "enemy." Who are we to pass judgement just because we prefer console gaming? These platforms can provide quality, inexpensive entertainment for a variety of people.
That said, they do pose a challenge to manufacturers of traditional consoles. As a console gamer, they do have me worried to some extent. However I would not lament the decline of the home console. I think consoles will be ours to enjoy for years to come.
From what I have seen of the Ouya it actually looks pretty fun. I might consider getting one, although I probably will not.

I think people base the 'placing' primarily on sales. Talking about 'placing' (in terms of sales only) is premature speculation at best. The PS4 and X-box One have not even been released yet!
If people let any other factors into 'placing,' then objectivity is lost, because of varying opinions. For example, a Microsoft fan might say that X-box 360 one the last generation because it was more fun, even though the Wii shifted more units. Ranking based on enjoyment is obviously purely opinion. At the same time, ranking based purely on sales is a bit of an oversimplification. One has to look at a combination of how many units were sold, and how happy the average user was with the platform.
Personally, my favorite last generation console was Wii, followed by 360, followed by PS3. These are just my personal tastes based on my gaming preferences, nothing more.
I try to stay out of arguments regarding console 'rankings,' because they are polarizing and pointless. There should not be so much fanboyism and butthurt within the gaming community. There needs to be greater respect for personal preference, because gamers all share one thing in common: love of video games. It does not matter what games you like. Throughout my years as a gamer, there have been the occasional people that give me crap for being a fan of Nintendo; however I try my best to be respectful of other peoples' tastes because I would want the same respect for myself.

"It seems Nintendo has to do something first, before any company will attempt it.
Also, my views are that graphics aren't import etc, and it's all gameplay etc, and fun etc, and if you are complaining Nintendo has no games, well, go play an older game; You can play Wii on Wii U, and even trade games with friends."

I agree with a lot of what you said here. Nintendo seems to be the only company that has the courage to try something new. Sony has not made any big changes to its controller in 19 years. I know that PS3 has its gyroscope thing, but that is not a whole lot.
Microsoft has not really done anything with its controllers either, besides making them more ergonomic (the original x-box controllers were MASSIVE), the layout and design remain largely unchanged since the original XBOX came out in 2001.

I am not saying that Sony and M-soft have to radically change their controllers every console release, however it seems that each new console that those guys release never really offers much of a new gaming experience. They need to find ways to offer new innovative gaming experiences. So far Sony tried to capitalize on Wii's success by mimicking the Wiimote with the 'Move' controller. It also seems like they are trying to pull people away from Nintendo by copying Nintendo's second screen idea. Gosh dangit Sony, offer something unique and different from Nintendo!

Even though I am pretty much exclusively a Nintendo fan, I have good wishes for all of the console developers. The gaming industry is changing (often in ways that I do not like a whole lot) and for the traditional console industry to thrive, Sony, Microsoft, AND Nintendo must do well.

Re: Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Reveals?

bassoongoon

I am guessing I am not the only one predicting a rough launch for the XBOX One. This seems like a poor choice for a name. I would have expected 'soft to learn from Nintendo's mistakes.

According to CNN money:
8GB ram
500GB hard drive
Blu ray
3 operating systems

I am sorry Microsoft but that is WAY too powerful.

I think that this is going to backfire big time. When looking at power only, there is no way the Wii U can compete, however I cannot see this thing MSRPing for anything less than $500. That is REALLY expensive. I am a huge Nintendo fan, but there is NO WAY I would have bought the Wii U for $500.

Now I come to graphics:
How much better can the graphics be on this XBOX One than those on 360? Not much, I am guessing. 1080p is pretty much the best you can get on commercially available TVs. I have no doubt that One will have slightly more polished graphics than the 360, but they will not be hugely different.

Re: Poll: Do You Follow and Watch Rival Console Reveals?

bassoongoon

I don't get the appeal of playstation. On some level I can see the fun of an XBOX, but I can't see myself ever owning a Sony console.

I will probably look up details of the rival consoles out of curiosity. I am interested to see what Microsoft is throwing into the fray.

Gaming is an expensive habit; I think I'll just stick with my Wii U (and soon a 3DS as well).

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo Should Step Up for the Wii U eShop

bassoongoon

@SpaceKappa

I totally agree with you. Nintendo needs an online account system. One should not be screwed just because something happens to his/her console.

I myself have never been one for download games (with the exception of virtual console). I always prefer an actual physical copy. However I might consider downloading something if a title is download only, and I have no other choice.

Re: Rumour: Wii U Sold Less Than 40,000 Units In North America In April

bassoongoon

Nintendo NEEDS to make sure people know what their product even IS in the first place. This needs to be priority #1. If people do not know it exists, or what it is, they will not buy it. I do not know how they could botch the Wii U launch so badly; they should have learned from 3DS. I am a HUGE fan of 'The Big N,' however sometimes I think they have a monkey at the head of their PR department (actually if donkey kong was heading their PR then things might not be as bad as they are now.....).

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Mixed Week With Wii U Third-Party Support

bassoongoon

I think that xbox720 and PS4 will have many of the problems Wii U has had. Perhaps their problems will be even worse. Whatever monstrously powerful behemoths that Sony and Microsoft release are going to be EXPENSIVE. If the prices on those consoles are comparable to Wii U, than Nintendo should be worried. However I think that they will be a lot more pricey. Nintendo would be smart to stick it to the other companies by having a strategic drop in MSRP a month or so before the other consoles are set to release.

Re: Disney Registers Racing-related Domains

Ehhh, does not really seem interesting to me. As others have said, I'm eagerly awaiting Mario Kart U. My copy of Sonic and Allstars Racing Transformed, and Mario Kart (when it comes out) should keep me happy in the racing department, oh and project CARS too haha

Re: Nintendo Direct: Watch The North American Presentation Live

@Ryno

Yeah, I am pretty frustrated that most retail Wii U games do not provide club Nintendo points. This seems pretty unfair to me, as I strongly prefer having a physical copy whenever possible.

I would guess 20 on the packaged version as well. Still, that is not too bad. Not as bad as what they did with Wii U (I was a little upset when I found out that my Wii U basic set only got me as many points as a 3DS would. Come on Nintendo!).

Re: Nintendo Direct: Watch The North American Presentation Live

bassoongoon

@Ryno

And me. Although I have NSMBU already, I am pretty anti-DLC, so I think it is pretty cool what Nintendo is doing with this: giving you the option to get it as a DLC, or buy a retail version. Super cool. This strategy might have just sold me on NSLU. I was not planning on buying it before, but after seeing the gameplay and the box, I definitely want to get the retail version. I can only hope it counts for club Nintendo points....

Re: Nintendo Direct: Watch The North American Presentation Live

Mario and Sonic at the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympics looks like so much fun!! From what I’ve seen, I will definitely be picking it up!

I am definitely considering getting the packaged version of New Super Luigi U (I already have NSMBU, the NSLU disc would be an awesome addition to my collection!). It looks really fun. I’ll admit I was skeptical at first, but I think it is really neat what Nintendo is doing with the release.

I am even more excited than ever for Pikmin 3. It looks like Nintendo is developing it around a really cool concept. However, in terms of the lower pressure and stress, it seems more like Pikmin 2 (unlike what Nintendo had previously implied). Oh, and flying pikmin! New puzzle challenges anyone??
