Re: Talking Point: The Wii U's Next-Gen Challenge Starts to Take Shape

Wowfunhappy

@ThomasBW84 When Microsoft bought Skype, they committed to continue supporting the app on other platforms.

I do think it's very, very unlikely, given Nintendo's history and the fact that MS never committed to developing for new platforms, just supporting existing ones. But I don't think you can rule it out completely.

The lower frame rate is going to REALLY annoy. I know you said it wasn't a huge issue but I'm sure I'm going to notice it, especially since I have played the Wii version. And I had lower framerates.

I might hold off on a purchase...

Re: Nintendo Claiming Ad Revenue On YouTube User-Generated Gameplay Videos

Wowfunhappy

Honestly? If I was a game dev, I wouldn't want people making Let's Play videos of my games, & would probably take legal steps to stop them.

It DOES spoil the game. There won't be any more surprises (or some but less, depending on how many videos you watch).

If it's competitive multiplayer, or randomly-generated (like Minecraft), that's a different story. But how many Nintendo games are like that?

Re: ZombiU Developer Hints at a Sequel, Sort Of

Wowfunhappy

I think the team is legitimately working on a prototype. However, I really don't think that should be cause for that much excitement. Companies prototype things all the time. The difference is that the developers don't usually say that they're working on said prototype.

Re: Review: SpeedX 3D Hyper Edition (3DS eShop)

I was really disappointed with the original because of the TERRIBLE framerate. But seeing as they fixed it this time around, I'm definately going to download it.

I don't really mind the lack of options. Minimalism at its finest!

Re: Wii U System Update Coming Next Week

Wowfunhappy

Y'know, if they actually put some effort into integrating Wii software with the Wii U menu (which IS technically possible, look at how the 3DS handles DSiWare, or how homebrew Wii software is able to automatically boot specific channels under set circumstances), booting into Wii mode at startup wouldn't be necessary. :/

Re: Play Wii U From The Comfort Of The Passenger Seat With MaxPlay

Wowfunhappy

When I first got my Wii U, I had a lot of fun playing Assassins' Creed III on a train ride home for thanksgiving.

Now, whenever I try to play Assassin's Creed, I get disk read errors. It's been years since I've had a game become scratched, as I treat them very well, and the professional disk cleaner at a nearby vintage gaming store wasn't able to repair it.

I don't know for sure that the train ride caused it, but I know I'll never be using my Wii U as a portable console again. I would advise caution for others as well.

Re: Talking Point: The Blurring Lines of Kickstarter Fundraising Goals

I don't understand the debate over Cloudberry Kindgom. At the end of the day, all I really care about is that the game I backed is completed, high quality/fun, and delivers on all the developer's promises.

As a backer, I've been playing the Cloudberry Kingdom beta, so I can attest to the fact that it IS a lot of fun.

Re: Ubisoft To Publish Cloudberry Kingdom This Summer

Wowfunhappy

I backed this game on Kickstarter and thus have been able to play all of their prerelease builds as they come out. The game is a lot of fun. Randomly generated levels aren't AS good as hand-crafted ones, but they're quite good.

They're... different... than human designed levels. They're chaotic, but have a constant sense of forward momentum... When you play, you'll learn that, despite all the fireballs and spikes and enemies circling around you, if you keep trust your instincts and move forward, a path WILL emerge. On the other hand, if you linger, you'll usually die. The levels reward you for trusting your gut, rather than be cautious. They force you take leaps of faith, and react quickly.

And of course, you never run out of levels.

I'm surprised the game is being pushed back. It already feels pretty much complete. Of course, I only know how it works on the PC, not other consoles.

Re: Feature: Our Top Ten eShop Games

Wowfunhappy

I agree with the later picks on this list, but earlier up... why so Virtual Console heavy? I like classic games, but I've been pretty disappointed with most of the VC releases thus far.

I think my top 10 would be:

10. 3D Classics Kirby's Adventure
9. Sakura Samurai: Art of the Sword
8. Ketzal's Corridors
7. Mutant Mudds
6. Game and Watch Gallery 2
5. Art of Balance
4. Colors! 3D
3. Mighty Switch Force
2. VVVVVV
1. Pushmo

Re: Sakurai Won't Make a Kid Icarus: Uprising Sequel

Wowfunhappy

Honestly, this really shouldn't come as a surprise. One of the main reasons Sakurai left Hal Laboratories was that he was tired of making sequels! He hates making them... he'd much rather work on new projects.

While I'd love to see a KI sequel... power to him! Hopefully we'll see some more new Nintendo IP's come from him in the future.

Re: Nintendo World Championships Finalist Looks Back

@XCWarrior His numbers were a little off, but his point was completely valid. No matter how you look at it, $20,000+ is A LOT of money. $20,000 for just that ONE cartridge.

Don't get me wrong, it's a special cartridge and all, but I'd sell it to.
