Re: Talking Point: With Calls for Nintendo to Follow the Crowd, It Faces a Dilemma

WiiUExposed

Nintendo has to have their hard-hitter games ready before the console release. They can't release consoles, have droughts, say "Please understand," and so on this many times. Iwata never learns from his launch mistakes (even though he sure as hell knows how to say "Please understand" due to them).

People say all that matters is the end result, but right now, this IS the end result. Their management needs to get with the times. Not the game devs (for the most part), they're fine. They just need to learn that they should have local AND online multiplayer for certain games (Mario 3D World). The "local is better" isn't an excuse, since if you don't have friends close by, you can't play local at all.

Their upper management lives in this bubble where they say "we don't care about the competition." To an extent, this is noble because they won't do shady business tactics that others will do. It also has big problems because they refuse to do what has been standard since 2005 (unified accounts, unified voice chat system, all in all, the standard online system). Miiverse is definitely a nice thing to have, but it's no replacement for the standard online system.

Re: We're Getting Digital Right On 3DS And Wii U, Insists Reggie

WiiUExposed

@wombatkidd It isn't about whether it was their first try or not. It's about them not taking hints from other companies' decisions. Do you also think it's okay for Nintendo to have trouble developing HD games 8 years after HD becoming mainstream just because it was "their first try"? They've had years to prepare for this, and they couldn't even get that right. I expect better from my favorite game devs.

Re: Wii U Name Isn't To Blame For Poor Sales, Says Reggie

WiiUExposed

That's a blatant lie. The name is a huge problem. Nobody outside of the hardcore know that Nintendo has a new machine. Software is the biggest problem, but to say that the name isn't a problem is BS.

They were clearly trying to bank on the Wii's name and success, but with all the Wii accessories, it just makes confusion.

Re: Weirdness: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is Beaten in Under 20 Minutes

WiiUExposed

@AltDotNerd It's not a knock off. Speedruns of this category have to be done on some sort of official Nintendo hardware. The iQue player was a deal by Nintendo to help curb piracy of N64 games in China at the time. The hardware is all condensed to a single chip, minimizing latency. This is most noticeable in the tower collapse since it's the only official version without any lag (3DS version is regarded as 100% different game). The only downsides to the iQue player for Ocarina of Time is that pause buffering is harder to do (speedrunners practice to do without pause buffering though), and that save-warping to Link's house is longer.

Re: The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD Hero Mode Details Sail Into View

Ugh, the best part of Master Quest was the crazy dungeon maps and path. You'd see some crazy stuff, like getting the Longshot before the dungeon map (I did at least), and the Shadow Temple (hardest Temple in Master Quest).

Sad to see that I won't be able to have this challenge in Wind Waker. Even if it was $10 DLC a fair amount of time later, I'll be happy.

Re: Wii U Research & Development Costs May "Undermine Profitability"

WiiUExposed

@GiftedGimp Sony and Microsoft wouldn't have this problem. Do you think that they would delay game after game due to being unprepared for HD development? They wouldn't abandon the PS3 and 360 in late 2011 like Nintendo did (no big Wii games developed after Skyward Sword). They also wouldn't forget about their systems for the entire first half of 2013. Nintendo dropped the ball with the Wii U, and I KNOW that they can do much better. I have higher expectations for Nintendo. It's called tough love.
