Earlier this year Nintendo announced it was selling authentic refurbished products on its official website in North America, stating the systems are the only refurbished products on the market that have been cleaned, tested and inspected to meet the company's high standards.
At the time, Nintendo was only offering refurbished 3DS and DSi consoles, but is now selling 3DS XL systems and SD cards as well.
According to the website listings the consoles are guaranteed to be fully functional, but they may have what is described as "minor cosmetic blemishes".
The same level of warranty is given with the refurbished products as brand new ones - one year.
The list of products available at the time of writing is below:
- Aqua Blue Nintendo 3DS - $119.99
- Blue/Black Nintendo 3DS XL - $169.99
- Midnight Blue Nintendo DSi XL - $99.99
- Midnight Purple Nintendo 3DS - $119.99
- Red/Black Nintendo 3DS XL - $169.99
- Red/Black Nintendo 3DS XL with 16 GB SD Memory Card - $179.99
- Nintendo 3DS SD Memory Card (16GB) - $13.00
These refurbished products can only be purchased directly from the Nintendo website. The Aqua Blue 3DS is still available and may prove popular due to it no longer being in production.

Are the sd cards a good buy?
Nintendo was late in the xls might have bought one...
Neat offer, but I'll still just buy a new one.
$13 is about the same price you'd pay for a new SD card, so I see no reason to pay that price for a "refurbished" one.
The NEW 16GB SD cards are also $13 now.
Uhh thats almost the same price as a new one.
Pretty high for refurbished goods.
I'd buy a refurbished console from them before I go for one from gamestop
I would never buy an SD card used/refurbished, the flash storage only has a limited number of uses to start out, and they can't increase it when refurbishing.
Id buy one if MH4 was confirmed for US but they are absurdly close to full price.
I would still buy a new 3DS. It's only $30.
just so you guys know though where these deals stand for the original 3ds, gamestop is offering used systems only 10 bucks off while nintendo is offering them 50 dollars off
Tip- Don't buy SD cards from this, you can get 8gb for a few bucks on Amazon. The systems however aren't a bad price, they're a nice alternative to new.
Great prices for refurb 3DSes. But are those really refurbed SD prices?
Just to let anyone know Target is having a sale on the 3DSXL this week. $179. Going to be picking up a black XL here today for my son there.
@Tasuki F***!! I JUST got a new xl! for full price!
If it came with the ambassador games it would be worth it.
A Jap one would be more interesting to me right now.
@Tasuki
Really? I want to upgrade to the black 3DS XL also.... hmmm. $180 isn't bad, but I've seen better. What to do... You live in the US, right?
is the difference only in price or is there something im missing
@Big_Boy_Chubs
I wouldn't worry about it too much. Just pretend you blew the $30 you would've saved at a restaurant somewhere
@crazyj2312
That, plus you know exactly if and where its been refurbished. Certainly beats pawn shops, ebay, craigslist, ect.
Theres certainly nothing wrong with getting a refurbished system, especially from directly from the manufacturer.
If they have the same warranty as new consoles, it is a good deal, except for the SD cards. Nintendo products are very reliable anyway.
@JJtheTexan
But what size? These are 16GB.
Anyway this is great, hopefully now I'll be able to convince a few of my friends to buy a 3DS.
I've never liked refurbished products personally. If they just give the Nintendo 3DS XL a price drop I'll buy one this Black Friday.
Best Buy always has deals on 3DS XL and Wii U systems. $20 off for 3DS XL, and $50 off the Wii U Deluxe Set. Just keep an eye out. They do those deals pretty regularly.
I'd say that's a bit steep for refurbished merchandise, but given that it's coming straight from Nintendo, I might pick up a black 3DS XL (should they ever add them to the refurbished line-up).
@JaxonH: Yes I live in the U.S.
I bought an xl from target when they were doing that $165 thing with them. Best upgrade ever! I would definitely buy a used one from Nintendo though because i think it comes with the same warranty as their new consoles.
sandisk 16GB SDHC reg price is $40, so $13 for a 16GB sd card is pretty good
