Think of it like pretty much any sort of league system, like the English Football one. There's Premier League which is the major league and EFL championship which the minor league. At the end of a season, the worst 3 teams in the Premier league get demoted to EFL, and the best 3 in EFL get promoted to the Premier league.
In Pokemon Sword and Shield, it's most likely that the 8 Major League gym leaders are the only ones that own gyms. The 10 gym leaders in the minor league either do not have gyms, or have smaller, less elaborate gym-like locations to battle. The promotion/demotion system would work the same way it does in the English football league, with the owners of the 8 gyms alternating based on how good/bad the gym leaders are in the two leagues.
@Kainbrightside I don't think Nintendo are "British enough" to replicate the humour that the Banjo games are known for. A studio in the UK is probably a better option. A release on PS could also help it sell.
If EA really wants to "be the world's greatest games company", then they should probably start by replacing their current CEO with somebody more competent. Otherwise, I don't see them getting any closer to reaching that goal.
This is essentially just Super Mario Galaxy with a different skin. That's not a bad thing at all, as this is a quite a good game. The only problem is that it lacks ambition and uniqueness, which may make it a deal-breaker for some.
@BlueOcean #47 This makes logical sense. I slightly doubt that Nintendo would even the games on their console, as they're basically just advertising the IP of one of their biggest competitors.
I know there's Minecraft., But that's a different situation, as Microsoft purchased the game for its education potential rather than for exclusivity.
@Orpheus79V I don't believe the first game will be ported, as it has a permanent Xbox exclusivity contract similar to Cuphead. But I do believe that any future sequels in the series will release on all platforms.

If you're still interested, here are some family-friendly exclusive games you can play on Xbox One.
Retail:
Forza Horizon 3 (Acquired taste, really)
Halo Wars 2 (It's similar to Pikmin, if you like that game)
Sunset Overdrive (Not family friendly, but cartoony and colourful)
Rare Replay (A collection of (mostly) general audience games released 2008 and earlier.)
Super Lucky's Tale (A Super Mario Galaxy-esque platformer)
Digital:
Cuphead (A difficult run 'n gun game)
Ori And The Blind Forest (A masterpiece of a Metroidvania)
Coming Soon:
Ori And The Will of Wisps (It will probably be a masterpiece)
Battletoads (I'm not exactly sure if this will be family friendly, but it'll certainly be cartoony.)
Backwards compatible games:
Blinx: The Time Sweeper (A 3D platformer)
Fable II (a western RPG)
Peggle 2 (a colourful 2D puzzle game)
Hexic HD, Ilomilo, The Maw, 'Splosion Man, Raskulls, Mr. Driller Online, Kingdom For Keflings
There are more exclusive family-friendly games, but these are all I can think of at the moment.

@hihelloitsme They sold less than the Kinect Sports series

@Varkster There's plenty of "Old Rare" still at the company. Certainly more than there is at Playtonic.

Microsoft own both of those properties, so I doubt that they'll reach Nintendo platforms in the future.
Re: Sonic Team's Takashi Iizuka Wants To Remake Sonic Adventure
@GrooveManyula I think a remake would be better.
Re: Rumour: Super Lucky's Tale Could Be Making The Switch
@Anti-Matter They don't own the IP. So it's possible if there's no exclusive publishing agreement.

@SimplyCinnamon53 I found Spyro to be a more colourful game than Banjo-Kazooie, but I certainly agree with you on Crash Bandicoot.
