@Bahamut ZERO My only fear is that size restrictions would bar the essential online component. Dr. MArio was a puzzler with a relatively static screen. This is a bit larger in scope than the online WW puzzler. I still hope Nintendo offers a good storage solution and follows Microsoft in raising the size restriction on download games. Live Arcade games used to have really small restrictions but now they can go as high as 350MB. Microsoft raises the cap every time they release a new SKU w/ a larger HDD. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the file size restriction has kept several promising games from having more online capabilities.
@vherub & Kadou My Life as a King had a patch/update as well when the second batch of DLC was released so that the game could acknowledge it. You had to delete and re-download the game. I don't know if that is how all games with periodic DLC updates will have to work or if it was just Squeenix's programming style that caused it. Also, I played through all of the main SBCG4AP story in regular screen mode and had no glitching problems.
@thewiirocks You have pointed out the very reason why we are forced to be in the dark in USA about releases for VC and WW. Nintendo has realized that Wii consumers impulse buy. That is why we get limited titles per week instead of a dozen or so. I have a sneaking suspicion that more casual players are online with Wii than people think. And I personally have seen several people who fit the casual demographic playing VC/WW titles at their house back when I delivered pizzas. WW is being geared in part to appeal to the Pop Cap/internet browser game audience. Nintendo just needs to realize that this demographic is having storage issues as well because a small storage space is not conducive to impulse buys.
I am curious to see how well SBCG4AP sells in Europe as opposed to US. Is the site very popular over there on the other side of the Atlantic?
@Virus Yeah, I get a kick out of the snake boxing game too. Can you tell if the "controversial" mode change makes you stronger or is it just a different image?
@TokiToku And if SBCG4AP is the largest so far it makes you wonder how many blocks it takes to hit the limit of 44MB. Especially since FFCCMLaaK is around 287. It makes me want to go count how many blocks all of the add-on content for FFCC is and if it equals 319 or so. Because if that is the case then Square really pulled one over us because it could add to the theory that they held back stuff on purpose. *EDIT Looks like MLaaK planed the DLC to be 1/7 of the full game's size. http://wii.ign.com/articles/885/885701p1.html That would mean about 334-335 blocks for total space. But you have to include basic system files that take up part of the max. Someone else probably has more knowledge on it or has done the numbers already.
@ACK! The limited content is a tough one on WW because I bet the episode would have had more material if space wasn't an issue. SBCG4AP is already the largest WW game I've DL'd. Some people really knock Lostwinds for the same issue. Also, your welcome
@ Ian Daemon I would love an 8/16-bit Smash Bros like those videos on youtube. @Jeph Would you rather see a NSMB 2 or an 8-bit Mario? NSMB really bugged me for some reason. I would rather have a new Mario 1 or 3 style game instead of the flashy 3-D side scroller. Maybe its the retro-traditional gamer in me though since I grew up with Mario 3 as my first Nintendo game I ever owned (aww the memories, I remember carrying the NES/Mario 3 bundle in a paper bag out of the target promising my Mom I would always love her because she got it for me...SNIFF)
I have to agree with your review and your #44 comment, ACK! I was a fan of Homestar back in High School and Post HS years and this was very enjoyable for someone who has watched it for a while. I think people need to remember that 7's are not bad reviews. As MasterMario stated in comment #5; all of his WW games are rated as 7 on this site. Seven is an above average game. Not great, perfect or marvelous (to use DDR rating) but they are still good. Keep up the great reviews. I appreciate them.
Hey guys, the Game is now number one on WiiWare as of 9am Thursday Pacific Standard Time. Now that is a first. And Dr. Mario is in 4th. This is a mighty upset indeed. I'm glad SBCG4AP is succeeding so well. I'm excited for the next episode and hope more come after the season is done.
LOL Corbie, If I ever see one for sale that says something like that I will get it for you if I am not broke...I could be cheap and make you a Facebook Flair button that says it
@pdrydia I was more bothered by the behavior of the users in the comments than the reviewers personally. @Corbie & Dazza - I found the 'About Us' page so now I know who all of you are. Good to know. Keep up the good work. Also since I'm talking to you guys: Any word on a forum?
@konkerdoodle I noticed that too. What a surprise for Pong Toss.
On another note, I had to finally do my first true fridge clean to get it. I'm very frustrated over it because I axed Lostwinds.
I've spent about 2 1/2 hours or so on the game and haven't beaten it yet so it seems to at least be Lostwinds length. Mostly fans of the site will enjoy it but point-and-click game fans or developer fans will probably enjoy it as well.
Good and true points BDPatVCR, I guess I am a bit of a Luc Defender.
Though I don't think people should have to deal with a billion F-Bombs directed at themselves online. I wish we could teach people to be more respectful and remember that there is a person on the other end of the keyboard. It's the whole loss of reciprocity in technology thing that Denis Dyack speaks of.
@Corbie-Thanks for the change of wording. I like it that way.
BDPatVCR- Did you read the comments they were posting on there? Their comment thread was litterally filled with one line comments "F**k you Luc". It was like picking through a trash heap to find any constructive criticism. If a number of those people were saying their minds then they probably did have mental illnesses. I'm not justifying WWW using the term 'retard' in a news article, but the destructoid users were way out of line.
@32. Bahamut ZERO And you think a 7.5-8.5 is bad? There are some great game listed in that range.
@Luc I am sad to see this end this way for you. But I hope you will keep your blog updated with news on your graphic novel endeavors. I think it will be an better place for you. Having the difficult dynamic or working with a programmer is tough from what I understand so unless you have your own programming skills then I think a field like comics will suit you better as you will have more control in the outcome. @ Bahamut ZERO I thought Namco said they were planning a version of Pac-Man Versus for WiiWare. Was really fun on Gamecube and I still try to round people up to play it from time to time.
“The key to a successful Wii port is the ability to expand the title to take advantage of the unique Wiimote input system..." Am I just too cynical of a gamer or does this statement reek of 'insert-waggle-here' syndrome?
I know I won't be getting this because I received a different knock-off, "Luxor", on the DS as a Christmas gift and once you've played one, it seems you've played them all.
Really? Nothing on amazon? I assumed that since the game sold crazy that it would be pretty easy to find and cheap. Better sellers are easier finds as a rule of thumb because you have more copied floating around at a given time even a decade or more after release.
On the licensing issue consider this: not only do you have to deal with the Bond license holder and game license holders (both current bond and goldeneye ones), but there is also the issue of having Pierce Brosnan's likeness also with Sean Connery and others likenesses in the multiplayer. they may have to be dealing with lawyers for a host of actors who appear in the game. That would make a true legal mess. There are probably so many big name birds pecking at the crumbs of a paltry download-able game with a maximum price point of what, $15? Unless Rare gets really crafty with the removal of faces or someone caves in on the movie side of things (since all of the game companies appear to be united in getting it out in any form) we can kiss this classic treasure good-bye.
Even if it got okayed to be on both VC and XBLA you do realize that the game would not be a fixed up one on the VC right? Firstly Wii doesn't do HD and also the online multiplayer would be severely limited or removed entirely. Remember it is nintendo. If it is just a plain port then just hunt down the original game.
Luc has also stated that the WW version is the definitive version if I understand what he has written in the past. They are two different beasts and the Steam version was sort of forced out by his programmer with some different design decisions. So I will not pass judgment on the WW version because of the steam version. Most of the destructoid user comments are not appropriate and out of line in my opinion.
@ BuzzDee & Tides of Chaos Yeah, Sid's Pirates! was remade back in 2004 in nice 3D graphics and I am told it is true to the original. It ended up coming to PC, XBox and PSP at different points. I have the PC one.
Why does it matter if it is exclusive or not as long as it comes to Wii and is the same as all the other versions? I'm am happy that it is coming to Wii at all.
I think Nintendo will only act if there is enough of a public outcry. Plus the upset about Beer Pong was about the teen rating not being age appropriate for a game about drinking. So this will probably be a bit less upsetting because it will be rated M and that is appropriate.
So Nintendo makes devs fix their games who find creative used for old hardware like the bongos, but doesn't make devs who un-creatively make a poor game go back and fix it up... Makes me wish that they would post at least 2 WW and 2 VC games a week.
@SmaMan I bet it is just an import title with the language of the text changed, maybe not even that. When Koreans first got StarCraft it was all still in English, even the manual.
If this was the reason for the US delay then could there be a similar reason for Vectorman? I doubt it but it makes me wonder again over some of the other delays.
Can't they hide it as an easter egg? Nintendo is a stick in the mud. >8P "much better" translates into much dumber in my book. I want to use my dust collecting bongos for something new.
@Firebrand do you think Matt's wife is the reason we don't really get the bitting articles like they used to write about storage solutions and voice chat? It is sad that creativity has to fight through corporate and mass appeal. And are you able to take out loans for your projects or do you have to wait until you save up enough from another job or project?
One thing I don't quite understand that perhaps Luc could possibly explain to me. Why does it seem that Devs are extremely dependent on publishers for WiiWare? I though the point of WW was to circumvent them all together so you Dev's can make a better and direct profit? Or is that a long term goal for you once you have a bit more cash to play with?
PS- Thanks for actually hopping on the comment section and chatting with us about this. I think this is the first time I have gotten to speak with a Developer directly.
I wish they would translate the Japan only Fire Emblems, though I will take DS remakes of them as well. Also I would like the N64 Custom Robo that was released on VC in Japan a couple of months ago. Blasted language barrier. I knew I should have kept at Japanese in High School.
