Re: Mobile Phone RPG Coming To WiiWare

Stratos

If Squeenix wasn't so enamored with remaking classic RPG's on DS for $40 they could remake them in 2-D on WW.
Are there any similar old game that are not being remade? Lufia and Earthbound come to mind (though EB is a looong shot).

What ideas did you have for the Facebook group? More tournaments and gatherings related?

Re: Mobile Phone RPG Coming To WiiWare

Stratos

I like your 16-Bit RPG idea back in comment 3 Corbie. Seeing a new 'old school' style 16 RPG ,or any genre game for that matter, would be awesome.

I'm part of the WWW Facebook group but there isn't much activity there. Any ideas to vitalize it?

And I do hope this game comes out in the West. It would be a nice change of pace from the current fare.

Re: Review: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint (WiiWare)

Stratos

@Clayfrd & Mickeymac
The hate has been more towards the negative review that this site gave the game.
As I said earlier, I think WiiBoy is avoiding treacherous ground by not getting involved in this discussion since it is his game.

Also, if poeple are so concerned about getting a variety of reviews concerning games then use sites like meta-critic and game-stats. If you want a variety of opinions then you need to go out and get them. Its like watching multiple news sources like Fox and CNN to get both sides of a subject.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Potpourrii and Strong Bad Episode 2

Stratos

I may have to just drop $50 on points at this rate. Strong Bad 2, Mega Man2 & 9, Bomberman...and I've yet to get Mario RPG on VC so thats 4300 points alone...ouch.

@thewiirocks
Thanks for the Strong Bad/American history comparison. I figured that the game would allude to it but thats quite a bit of parallels.

Re: Review: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint (WiiWare)

Stratos

Some poeple have seemed to like it so I'm not going to fully write off the game yet. But if it doesn't sell well I wonder if Nintendo and BPlus would consider a price cut or something.

@Corbie
I saw it right away as a DC logo. Silly kids missing good gaming history

Re: Review: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint (WiiWare)

Stratos

Wiiboy is probably taking a cue from the eternity's child review debacle and sitting his game's review out. So I wouldn't keep calling out to him.

@Final_Starman
Corbie's Grim Reaper had a Dreamcast logo I thought (correct me if I'm wrong, Corbie)

Re: Review: Plättchen: Twist 'n' Paint (WiiWare)

Stratos

Sad, the game had so much promise.
I still am interested in trying it but wouldn't spend most of a points card on it.
Good review sir.
On a side note, I wonder how the game would have played with the bongo controllers. That feature was what really had me interested in this game at the beginning. Shame on Nintendo for blocking that feature.

Re: Tetris Party - Japanese Trailer

Stratos

Classic Tetris on the Gameboy (aka "The Brick") was the only game I ever got to play against other people because it came with the system.
I own a copy of Tetris DS though so I'm not sure if I want to get Tetris again. Though the refreshed WiFi with more players is tempting.
Does this game have the feature on Dr Mario where you can play the game with someone who doesn't own it?

Re: Review: Bomberman Blast (WiiWare)

Stratos

@Mario64DStyle
That's why I dropped the subject. I was trying to analyze the score on a technical level like how IGN says a game lost a point for slow load times or something like that. But then I realized that was over analyzing because the final score is not a scoreboard for the number of flaws a game has but how enjoyable it is.
Good review, Drake!

Re: Strong Bad Episode 2 Out This Monday

Stratos

@x.SuperMario.x
He does that in other posts to. I know people like that in real life so I just tune most of it out.

@Gitaroo_Dude
If the gaming press at large were to jump on it then I would think... wait, this isn't the US election news. I guess your right. We are a bunch of love starved abused fans.

Re: Review: Bomberman Blast (WiiWare)

Stratos

@ Drake
So you would say that an eight out of ten is where you would put the fun level. It's not like some other sites that knock off points for technical issues or something.

Re: Review: Bomberman Blast (WiiWare)

Stratos

I agree with Mario64DStyle. The way the review sounded I was guessing a nine or maybe even a ten. When the only real complaint you cited was the lack of classic tunes an eight seems low.

Re: First Impressions: Space Invaders Get Even

Stratos

The 650 block total is interesting. I wonder if Nintendo is recommending developers do this to work around the storage issue until their 'superior storage solution' arrives.
Also the size gives me hope for the quality and quantity of gameplay...so long as their programmers aren't just terrible at compression and coding.

Re: First Impressions: Space Invaders Get Even

Stratos

Nice to see its fun, but after the points I dumped into My Life as a King I'm going to be very hesitant to do that again; both in buying add-on stuff and also high point games.
Though I am open to getting the starter and pack A as Robert did. Though it strikingly reminds me of a CCG like Magic or Star Wars or the board game Settlers of Catan with the 'Starter Kit/Game' and 'booster/expansion packs".

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Sept)

Stratos

@x.SuperMario.x
I can't decide if I want to be a grumpy old man or a jolly one.
Though following VC seems to make a lot of people grumpy old men. When people complain about SMRPG or Earthbound not being released and still complain when SMRPG does come they are being grump grumps.
@ Peznaze
I think that seeing the top 5 all being SBCG4AP episodes would be very entertaining.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Sept)

Stratos

@x.SuperMario.x
This was the user review from your link I agreed with the most:

"Save your money and treat the kids to something they'll remember."

That is why I buy my little sister good games that give her many hours of play versus unmemorable games like Horsez, Babiez and Carnival Games. I got her Pokemon Diamond for her birthday and she has already gotten more time and enjoyment out of it than several of the games she asks for or our parents get her. Pikmin, Zelda and Monkey Ball are other ones she gets more out of than lower caliber games. BTW - She's 10

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (10th Sept)

@ Corbie
I am trying to stop using the terms hardcore and casual all together. Sometimes I have to to communicate with other people but they are hollow terms to me now.
I read some of this guy's essays and agree with a lot of what he says.
http://malstrom.50webs.com/birdman.html

Also, do you guys think that price may have something to do with WW sales? Both Defend your Castle and My Aquarium are 500 points.

@WiiloveitOnline
Nice to see Toki Tori is not last in the UK yet. Though it is a tough game to sell and unfortunately very niche. The few friends and family I convince to try it are turned off from it when they do

Re: Potpourrii Coming To US WiiWare Next Monday!

Stratos

@Finalkingdom13
I had completely forgotten about Animales de la Muerte!
Strong Bad 2, Animales and Mega Man 9 for the rest of this month would be crazy amazing if they can hold to their projected release dates. Though I bet one or two of them slip into October. We haven't even seen Mega Man 2 on VC and that is supposed to be the herald to Number Nine.

Re: EU VC Releases: DoReMi Fantasy and Ys Book I & II

Stratos

@ Abodi & x.SuperMario.X
I never even noticed x.SuperMario.x's avatar had an angry expression until you mentioned it. lol on me.

I just finished Book I of Ys and started book 2. Very fun and retro filled. It took a bit to adjust to the different play style but I realize that it is not much different from other games where you click on enemies to attack (Diablo comes to mind minus the loot). The 80's style rock music is very enjoyable.
With Europe and US pretty much even in number of titles released do you think they may start trying to balance out the missing games?

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in USA (3rd Sept)

Stratos

So if Strong Bad 2 really does come out on the 15th, I wonder what it will do to the charts. Will #2 nab the top spot and #1 drop down a few or will we begin to see the SBCG4AP series flood the top five?

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (20th August)

Stratos

@hydroswimmer12
High Voltage's next game in not done yet so they can't release it. IGN used to have Animales de la Muerta (sp?) set for a September release but recently just changed it to just 2008. So maybe next month we will see it.
@WiiWare World Crew
Do you think it would be possible to release the European top 20 list too? I am curious as to how it varies.

Re: IGA: 2D WiiWare Castlevania Is The Right Approach

Stratos

I think that retro 8-bit or 16-bit is preferable to 2.5D. I really don't like much of the 2.5D. New Super Mario Bros just wasn't that appealing to me. Now, having a New Super Mario Bros 3 or New Super Mario World retaining the original graphical styles would be amazing.
I like both 8 and 16 bit so I think that Castlevania (and other series doing retro like Mega Man) should make the first remake in 8-bit and then make a retro sequel in 16-bit.

Re: USA WiiWare Update: Midnight Pool

Stratos

@TokiToru
I bet it could go two WW and one VC game in a week. I have a feeling that this is the sweet spot for the highest average of sales Nintendo gets. This may be why the game numbers have varied is from Nintendo gathering sales data and seeing where and when the most people will buy things. Any less than this and less people find something that they are interested in. Any more than this and the whole weeks sales are hindered because the initial week typically receives the most downloads.
Another theory along this line is that Nintendo releases enough each week to equal a 2000 point card in an attempt to get people to more consistently pick one up when they are shopping. I know that half of the time that I go to Fred Meyers I grab one with my groceries.
I think it is all in an attempt to get more casual, curious and impulse buyers onto the WW-VC service.

Re: Top 20 WiiWare Games in America (13th August)

Stratos

Ian Daemon,
Do you mean you do not believe that more casual gamers are online than people think or do you disagree with the WW is being geared towards the Pop Cap/Internet browser audience?
Or were you just knocking my old job?

Re: Get Ready To Go To Battle In Swords & Soldiers!

Stratos

@Bahamut Zero
I figured you were, but I had an initial thought of "What did I do!? before I thought it through and so I missed the joke the first pass.
TWEWY is probably my favorite DS game ever. I hunt for TWEWY Facebook Flair (if you don't know facebook flair is different custom digital pins you can collect, send and post on your Facebook page. TWEWY is a perfect theme for it I think)

@Viper
Thanks for pointing that out. I think most users so far have made the assumption it is the Wii de Blob team making this. It explains all the 'part of the team' comments because I thought this was either a break-away group from the Wii team (which seemed odd for an as yet unreleased game to have) or it was a pet side project team for said team.

Re: Get Ready To Go To Battle In Swords & Soldiers!

Stratos

@Bahamut ZERO
Dude, I read your comment 26 and got that 'I'm-a-jerk-for-ruining-your-hopes-and-dreams' feeling. Maybe you weren't serious, but I apologize for being such a cynic.
To counter what I originally said, this is part of the team that is bringing us deBlob and that is a unique, quality Wii title that does have multiplayer so the team does have some talent and multiplayer development skill so they could possibly have online multiplayer in the works.

Re: EU WiiWare Update: Strong Bad Episode 1 and My Aquarium

Stratos

Konkerdoodle, the problem people are seeing in this release set is that both titles are very niche. A fish tank sim and a Point-and-click adventure game based off of an internet comic won't catch a wide swath of players. Pairing each of them with a more robust title would have met the desires of a lot of gamers who find neither of these games to be their cup-o-tea. Though the question is which other games are in the release queue (in that I mean completed, localized and ready to go) to pair with them.
