Re: Talking Point: The Rules for Violence in Video Games

@OlympicCho
Oh yeah, you know I'm one to respectfully disagree with others. I can completely understand your point of view, I was just trying to bring a bit of the reality into the entire argument as a whole. It's definitely not all about shooting animals for fun — for many cultures (including my own) it's a way of life. For myself though, I've not been hunting in years. It's too much work for me and the little time I have off, I don't want to spend it hiding in a tree in the middle of nowhere.

I just don't like one-sided arguments, which is how this piece was written. Hunting was demonized from the start, regardless of anyone's cultural thoughts/cares and I personally found that to be quite offensive. Hunters are needed where I live, as the deer population is heavily monitored and if we didn't hunt, they would overpopulate in the matter of a couple of years. Most everyone I know is an avid hunter and I can guarantee you that they're not "murderers."

@OlympicCho Where I'm from, hunting/fishing is more of a lifestyle than a sport. We abide by the rules/laws, hunt on our own land and only take a shot when we know it's going to be a clean kill. Not only is wild game healthier to eat, but a single deer an feed a family for quite sometime — saving you a great deal of money.

It's not all about the kill either. Once you've taken down your game, there's hours of work ahead of you — sometimes miles of dragging the game out of the woods — and then you've got to clean and de-bone the game, just as a butcher would, and get the meat on ice. The next day you've got to slice your meat to your preferences too.

Hunting is work, but when your feeding your family off of game that you've killed, prepared and cooked all yourself, it's not exciting, it's humbling. Yes, some people take it to extremes, but it's like everything else, you can't judge everyone by a chosen few.

No More Heroes and MadWorld are both games that have very little substance and rely on over-the-top violence, sexuality and vulgarity to sell. I personally find both of these to be offensive titles and to be ill-fitting on Nintendo's ("family console") Wii. Yet, they're excused by Nintendo loyalist?!

While I don't agree with the endangered species being involved in Outdoors Unleashed, comparing it to MadWorld and No More Heroes, and calling people hypocrites that don't see them as equally violent is, well, verging on being offensive.

Hunting is a legal sport and the last time I checked, I've never seen a score pop out of any game I've shot in real-life.

Re: Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge Brings Series Back to the Hardcore on Wii U

Slapshot

This is good news, but also something that I'm very cautious about. As a massive fan of the series — as the link to my review above will show — NG3 was a massive letdown for me. Hopefully this they did realize that the changes they made to the game we're for the best and they really will do as they say and bring it closer to its core gameplay. It's going to take a lot of restructuring to do so, but they can do it.

Re: New Super Mario Bros. 2 Will Cost £39.99 to Download

@19Robb92 @RupeeClock Yes, many 3DS games do, in fact, come with instruction manuals. Just looking at what's sittin' right beside me at the moment:
Cave Story 3D — 31 page booklet and a hologram case.
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Shadow Wars — 18 page booklet
Nano Assault — 23 page booklet

I'd say they still come with 'em!

Re: Feature: Our Favourite Super Mario Games

I voted Mario 64 as #1, and it's not there — rigged!

@Mickeymac If you knew how crazy this list was for us to just decide on what titles are valid, not to mention the craziness that ensued afterwards, you'd know just how unpredictable this list actually is.

Re: Could The Wii U GamePad Suffer From Latency?

Slapshot

That's worrying news indeed. Any noticeable latency isn't good for a console in this generation. Peripherals having latency is one thing, but a console itself could be a very troubling issue. I truly hope Nintendo is one top of this issue right now!

Re: This is Why New Little King's Story Isn't on Wii

Slapshot

Can't wait to play this on Vita! Well, actually, I can't wait to just play my Vita again! Haha

I don't see why this wouldn't release on Wii U. Vita and Wii U are very similar consoles and I'd like to think that a Wii U port is in the works.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Think of 3DS XL?

Slapshot

As an early adopter of the 3DS, the XL upgrade would put me at $350 for the 3DS in just over a years time. As much as I'd like one, I just can't reason with that kind of cost for a system with so little coming out in the near future that I absolutely have to have. Especially considering the lack of software for both my 3DS and Vita has not one, but two very expensive handhelds in my home collecting dust. Just can't do it.

Re: GameStop Exploring Possibility of Second-Hand Digital Sales

Slapshot

@ThomasBW84 GameStop is primarily in the US.

I was at a Gamestop speaking with a friend (employee) about the EU ruling and another worker in there all but got into a knockdown drag out with me over the supposed fact that "GameStop would never sell used media." Of course, he had no idea about the EU ruling, and when I tried to explain it to him, all I got was a massive defense that boiled down to: "Well, that's the UK, not the US. That'll never happen here."

The UK ruling was massive forward movement for the coming digital age. The will bring massive changes to the way digital media is being sold. It is possible to sell/resell media. Yes, there are hurdles to overcome, but so did motion control and you see where they got the Wii!

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Digital Pricing

Slapshot

@ThomasBW84 Steam lets you preorder full priced new release titles for a 10% discount and Sony's new release digital downloads aren't released at full retail price either. You get a small discount for digital releases on Vita titles and PS+ members can get even steeper discounts on new releases too.

Re: 3DS XL Represents 'The Progress of Technology'

Slapshot

...and it's still a larger 3DS. Not to dismiss his statements, but this is nothing new. Even home consoles are tweaked with newer, cheaper technology as time progresses. While it's not as apparent on the outside, it's hardware is constantly changing, because of the "progress in technology."

I actually do want a 3DS XL, as the small screen size on the 3DS, is quite annoying, now that I've gotten used to the large screen of the PS Vita. But, I do feel that they're trying to over-hype what quite apparent, because it is, just a larger 3DS!

Re: Talking Point: 3DS XL's Media Potential

Slapshot

A couple of great ideas, but sadly, I'm not sure if anything of the sorts will actually catch on.

The second arrival of 3D, like before, is quickly fading away. Sony has been the largest pusher of 3D and they've already started abandoning it, as it just doesn't sell. It's not just them either. Go to your local electronics retailer and compare how many 3D TVs they've got available compared to the new LED televisions. Even the theaters in my city are now showing way more non-3D movies than 3D.

I just don't think the 3D in the 3DS is what's sold the system to the majority of buyers — I enjoy it though.
