Re: Mysteries Under Lake Ophelia Turns Ocarina Of Time's Fishing Into A Full Game

@larryisaman fully agree. I grew up in the 8- and 16 bit eras, then stepped away from gaming until 2017 when Botw compelled me to get a Switch. When the N64 games came out for NSO I was really excited to play OoT for the first time. But having skipped over the N64 era, I don’t have any fondness/nostalgia for the early 3D polygon aesthetics, and I’m finding it hard to get past that…I haven’t given up on OoT, but it hasn’t yet grabbed me like I thought it would…I’ll give it some more time.

@Kiyata apologies- didn’t mean to imply anything! I don’t doubt you, and if you haven’t experienced lag issues with the collection then that’s great. At the same time I’m not the only one mentioning the lag issue with the classics collection— there’s like 4-5 other examples in these comments as well. I think we can both be right šŸ˜‰

Ps I checked my software/hardware - both are the latest versions.

@Kiyata Interestong…I had just chalked it up to person-to-person variability…my wife doesn’t notice the lag (or any lag for that matter, like when we hook up our NES to a new TV…barf) and it makes me feel kinda crazy.
We have an OG switch and an OLED, and my experience is the same on both. Some others have the same complaint about the Genesis classics collection, so I do think it is a thing, for those that are irked by lag. I’m jealous…would love to be able to enjoy that collection. šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

@Kiyata it does look strange to have so much overlap between the NSO genesis offerings and the Genesis classics collection. On paper, the latter is an amazing collection of games—but for folks sensitive to input lag (like me) the emulation is a huge disappointment. I haven’t clocked it but it feels like 0.5 seconds between pressing a button and Sonic jumping on screen. Whereas in the NSO version, the lag feels negligible. I have both, and I HATE the genesis classics version!! Wish I’d never bought it 😔

Re: Feature: What's The Best Way To Play Super Mario Bros. In 2020?

SNES_Chalmers

@Munchlax I fall into this category (grew up playing Mario on NES) and yes, using a stick to play 2D platformers (whether they are old or current games) just feels alien to me. It could just be nostalgia but the dpad just feels more responsive to me.
Hence for Mario, I would prefer the original hardware but don’t have an old CRT tv, which IMO is needed to avoid the dreaded lag issue of older consoles w/ newer TVs. So next best thing for me is the NSO service, using a controller with a passable dpad which for me is the 8bitdo SF30 pro.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (April 11th)

@kurtasbestos what did you think of the Phantasy Star games? I have only ever played 3, back when it came out in the 90s. I played the s*** out of it back then, trying to play through every lineage, so it has a big nostalgia factor for me...but objectively I’ve heard it’s the weakest in the series. Just curious to hear someone’s take who has recently played all 3...I’ve been meaning to play 2 and 4 on the SEGA classics collection.

Oh man, Shining Force 2 was great. Sunk many hours into the original!

Re: Switch Is Still The Best-Selling Console Of 2020 In The US, Tops February Charts

@PickledKong64 True, influenza does kill lots of people each year,. However, based on the epidemiological data available thus far, Covid cases would completely inundate our healthcare infrastructure, in the absence of preventive measures (closings, social distancing, etc). The relatively low # of confirmed cases here in US is just a reflection of the lack of testing thus far.
