Re: Talking Point: Is the Nintendo Switch a Handheld or Console? Does it Matter?

Nintendood

If we're expected to consider it a portable, what kind of StreetPass features does it have? I know tons of people really like that about the 3DS, not to mention the 3D visuals. Especially with how impressive the new models' super-stable 3D is, and considering how there's really no competition for that technology, I think some people won't be interested in completely giving up such a unique visual experience, and will still be bringing their 3DSs with them.

I realize their idea is to replace both Wii U and 3DS, but why should people settle for a portable system that isn't as convenient or even capable of all the things a 3DS can do? I'm just hoping they realize that it isn't a replacement, and continue to support both. I think with the huge number of people that own 3DSs now, who won't be able to get a Switch for whatever reason (or even be interested) is more than enough reason to keep making games for it as long as they continue to sell.

Re: Reggie on Wii U Support Going Forward

Nintendood

@Ralizah "Hopefully Nintendo will transition development resources away from 3DS entirely and focus everything on the Switch."

That would really suck.

@Beau_Skunk
I agree. Especially with how impressive the new models' super-stable 3D is, considering there's no competition for that technology really, I think some people won't be interested in completely giving up such a unique visual experience, and will still be bringing their 3DSs with them.

Re: Video: Let's Put the Original 3DS Through its Paces with Pokémon Sun & Moon

Nintendood

@ninty-love I can understand not liking something that makes the game hard to play. I've never had that problem, myself. The first game I got with the system when it launched was Ridge Racer 3D, and I remember how the depth made it easier to judge the exact distance between other cars and corners, to time the turns perfectly.

Out of curiousity, do you have, or have you tried a New 3DS? Some people who found the 3D distracting with the original models were really just bothered by how you have to keep it straight. (Those people actually liked it when that wasn't an issue anymore.)

Re: Video: Let's Put the Original 3DS Through its Paces with Pokémon Sun & Moon

Nintendood

@ninty-love The point isn't to be necessary or convenient, it's to add depth to the graphics, like everything we see in real life. It depends on the game and how well it's done, but for me, it almost always adds more to the realism of the experience than HD does. I don't have any games that don't use the 3D properly (the eShop screws it up constantly), so I have the depth slider permanently stuck at the max.

It varies greatly from one person to another, how much they get out of the stereoscopic 3D, but considering there's people (yeah, it's not that many, but still) whose favorite thing about the system is the depth, it's something that shouldn't be left out. It's called the 3DS for a reason...

It has to render the image twice, that's all. Other games have shown that sometimes it can cut the framerate in half (at the most) when the 3D is turned on. I'd take a slower framerate any day over a boring flat image, but that should be up to the player.

Re: Review: Adventure Time: Finn and Jake Investigations (Wii U)

Nintendood

@KaoruxChan I think you're confused about how the rating works here. A 6 is 'Not Bad' and still above average. A 7 is even better and still a recommendation according to the scoring policy. Getting close to an 8 isn't possible, because there's only whole number scores.

@Elliander How'd that work? Pre-ordered copies came with a code?

@TimLatshaw Can the whole thing be played on a TV or the GamePad? If so, is anything different displayed on the GamePad when playing on the TV?

Re: Hardware Review: RetroUSB AVS

Nintendood

@blackice85 I have an old HDTV, an early Panasonic one, that supports the 240p setting that the games are, so that's the best display you can get without distorting the original image, as far as I know. It's a really fat and heavy TV, though.

I have the NES Advantage!

Untitled

I might consider this if I didn't already have two NES top loaders and a Famicom. I have an original model too, but I have no reason to use it since it'll just wear out the connectors. I've always thought the top loaders were perfect, every game working on the first try, never wearing out, and compact with way more comfy controllers...

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@Mega_Yarn_Poochy to bumblebags, to cool pixel art...

I think that's "bumbag" actually, because they like calling butts "bums" a lot more often in the UK. I haven't heard anyone call an ass a "fanny" here since I was a little kid, even though "fannypacks" is what we called those things.

Actually, when I first read that comment, I thought maybe it was when a bum (hobo) makes three holes in a garbage bag and wears it like a poncho... Thanks for sayin' my art's cool, by the way.

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@samuelvictor So Don Bluth never got the financing for that feature, huh? As you said it was, that must've been quite an experience to learn from him in person, and it's hard to even picture him teaching online...

@Geno-Beatdown Sure... there were artists on three different stages playing at the same time for three days, so I missed quite a few that I like more than some of these, but once I got really close to the East Stage, I didn't wanna give up my spot, considering the lineup that I knew was coming. Luckily, sweating from the heat kept me from having to use the porta-potties, since I would've lost the spot and had the memory of seeing what those were like there - I'm glad the only dirty thing I remember is the naked girls wrestling in mud, that posed with me for pictures.

I guess I exaggerated about how many I still listen to, but starting with the ones I like most, these were my favorites out of the ones I saw...

Bush • Live • Red Hot Chili Peppers • Korn • The Offspring • Rage Against the Machine • Our Lady Peace • Fatboy Slim • Collective Soul • Dave Matthews Band • Wyclef Jean w/ Refugee Allstars • Counting Crows • Sheryl Crow • Everclear • Creed • Limp Bizkit • Metallica

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@Damo That's because like the '70s and '80s, the '90s are becoming cool again.

Wait, huh? Becoming cool again? There was a time when the '70s through the '90s weren't cool?! I must've missed it somehow! I guess it would've helped if I ever paid attention to what the rest of society thinks...

Every one of my favorite musicians or bands is also one that I saw at Woodstock '99, when I was a freshman in high school, including Willie Nelson (and about half of the other thirty or so newer ones that I saw).

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@ROBLOGNICK
The article does nothing but state the facts. It even points out things that aren't necessary, just to make it clear that it might not be any worse than what's been proven so far (which is already worse than anything that should be associated with Nintendo). If you think that proper journalism is awful, then you should probably look somewhere besides Nintendo Life.

@Damo Unlike what samuelvictor mentioned at the beginning of post #273, I'm sure you're not aware of this, but I'm also a fan of your work, even from before this site. I know this wasn't your article, but I do think it was more than justified, and necessary.

@samuelvictor Wow, that's impressive, and certainly does help enforce what you said, as well as the excellent you added to it. Considering the amount of time I ended up putting into the picture, and all the tons of praise I saw for other versions of the meme on the same thread that I posted it, I was disappointed that only two people mentioned liking this one...

When you say you trained with Don Bluth, how do you mean exactly? Also, would you be willing to mention which script and oscar winner you were talking to Damien about? If not, I mentioned two other ways of contacting me directly in other posts here, if you'd wanna do that - I'd be interested to know. (Anyone else can also contact me if they're interested in something like what I mentioned to Drumpler.)

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@buildz I think Geno's post was just making fun of how every title has been done in ALL CAPS. I do think it's a bit obnoxious how his titles draw more attention to themselves in the eShop because of that.

@samuelvictor Thanks for the compliments! Means a lot, from someone who apparently has several companies of his own. Thanks for the name of Gimp too, since I was looking for something like that to use on my new laptop. I do have some developer tools that I've gotten with some bookazines I ordered from the UK, but haven't tried 'em out yet.

The reason I did it that way is because I was just playing around with it casually. I was responding to people on GameFAQs threads, and doing that between posts. My old laptop was so slow, that switching between Chrome and any decent program slowed everything down so much, that it wasn't worth the frustration. I figured I'd just see what I could do with the most basic program I could think of, so the poor, dying thing could keep up.

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

I think what I find most silly is all the comments on the legality of it. Whatever happened to having a basic sense of right and wrong? He didn't even make any changes to the graphics he was copying, which should make him feel ashamed without giving any credit to anyone else, and he didn't even use them in anything original that he came up with on his own. I feel like all of these games should've already been removed from the eShop, as they're usually the butt of the jokes about the eShop from the haters of Wii U.

@Geno-Beatdown Thanks a lot for the compliment! Nobody else mentioned the pic, not even the guy I posted it for...

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

@Drumpler I made the graphics for Explody Bomb but people did not like them, so I spent two updates addressing those issues (and gameplay issues). I cannot afford to hire people but want my graphics to look unique so I'd rather make a game with crappy graphics if that is what it would take. I would hire artists, but they would get paid when I get paid and most are not willing to do that.

I'm a talented artist, and I'd consider doing artwork on a game for a percentage of the profits. Someone requested a Mario version of the Captain America "Hail Hydra" meme. I saw one that was poorly done, and it motivated me to do a much better one, starting with Mario's actual face on a drawing of a normal man's body. I admit that it took me way longer than it should've, because I was using the original Microsoft Paint on my 2003 laptop that I just stopped using. I zoomed in to 800% and did it pixel by pixel...

Untitled

That's what my avatar on here's from. This says 'Nintendork' in the corner there because it's my user name on GameFAQs.

Re: Feature: Exploring the Licensed Content in RCMADIAX Games on the Wii U and New 3DS eShop

Nintendood

I think he thought that changing all the titles to ALL CAPS would help cut down on the number of others with the development kits that'd recognize 'em... They definitely come off more annoying than the original versions that included lower case letters.

I think titles should only be all caps when the letters stand for something else. I figured a "developer" that couldn't get that part right even once wasn't even worth paying attention to, so I never have. It's too bad there's so many to ignore though, especially in the sale sections.

Really makes the whole eShop look like more of a joke, even before anyone knew about this.

Re: Mega Man Legacy Collection

Nintendood

@Nekketsu3D Yeah, it's a shame. I still have all six NES games, and Mega Man Collection for GameCube, so without any layers of 3D added (like the 3D Classics would've been nice), it would just be stupid to get this.

Re: Review: Titan Attacks (3DS eShop)

Nintendood

@Gridatttack Yes, unfortunately I can't keep using the 3D after half an hour or less, so I got annoyed at the fact that I would have to either turn on and off the 3D at intervals or stop playing due to the headache, so I decided to not use 3D at all :v
That's a shame, and I definitely feel bad for you, because I know how much that would bother me. I have a Virtual Boy, and more people have played that for over twenty minutes with no problem (twice as many people with zero headaches, after I helped adjust it specifically for them), than people who've tried my 3DS (about 20 people with 3 that said they got a headache). I'm guessing you've tried it with the 3D set at lower levels, too, right? Have you tried that on the New model?

Re: Review: Titan Attacks (3DS eShop)

Nintendood

@Chaoz No 3D, no purchase?
Yeah, that's how I feel.
@Gridatttack >no 3D, no purchase
Same here, although I'm actually considering it even without 3D right now, since it's only $1... not sure, though.

@Mommar I just bought this over the weekend, as someone who ONLY plays games on the 3DS in 3D I actually never realized it wasn't in 3D until reading this review.
Yikes, it sounds like something's wrong with one of your eyes! You should get 'em checked out right away.

Re: Publisher Future Confirms £14.2 Million Takeover Bid For UK Rival Imagine

Nintendood

@Toadsfriend @Mogster @Jolt @olrodlegacy
I know! That would be awesome. Even moreso for you guys, because they charged a fortune to subscribers outside of the UK...

@johnleith123
Nintendo did originally run Nintendo Power, until Future took it over for a few years before discontinuing it. I still have all 285 issues, because I'd been subscribed since before I learned how to read. I wasn't ready or willing to stop getting a Nintendo magazine every month, so I paid over $80 to subscribe to ONM and have it shipped to the US, until Future discontinued that too.

Now I subscribe to Nintendo Force, a bi-monthly magazine that's written by some of the original staff members from Nintendo Power, with sections and articles that pay tribute to the original magazine. They've also been including a couple posters each month for a while now. Anyone interested should check out www.nintendoforcemagazine.com

Re: Sega Placing "Huge Emphasis On Quality" With Future Sonic Titles

Nintendood

@NintendoFan4Lyf @Socar
There actually already was a Sonic Boom title that wasn't bad - Shattered Crystal for 3DS. Although I agree with @Kirk that the character designs are not an improvement, especially Knuckles, who was perfect just the way he was.

@The-Snarfer
What ones have you tried playing since the Advance titles? Sonic Rush, Rush Adventure, and Colors on the DS were all very good and similar to the ones on GBA. Colors was very good on Wii, too.

Personally, I also enjoyed Sonic Generations on 3DS and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on DS, an interesting RPG starring characters from the series.

@Gauchorino Oh, nothing to apologize for! It just sounded a bit like that, plus it seems rare for other members to be so well-spoken, or even make it through a post without accidental mistakes in their writing... I appreciate the compliment very much, and you can still free to email me at the address if you ever want to (or if anyone from the site does read this, they can too, of course).

Re: It's Now Possible To Play Virtual Boy Games On Your Android Phone

@Gauchorino Sorry for my delayed reaction, I've gotten used to the fact that, for whatever reason, people on this site almost entirely stop commenting on articles after they've been posted for a few days. That's why I hadn't bothered checking for any replies since before you posted this.

Sure, I'd be interested in contributing an article to the site, and if you still have more to say, feel free to email me at [email protected]. I don't recognize your name from before this article, but the way that your post is worded makes it sound as if you're on the staff or have contributed content yourself in the past...

Re: Nintendo of America Has a Snazzy New Slogan - "There's No Play Like It"

Nintendood

@Geno-Beatdown Heh, you do make a very good point!
@jaxrogers2 I have no idea what the first half of your post is about. What's "THAT area" supposed to mean? For the paragraph below that - the slogan is definitely not making any direct reference to the 2DS, since everyone knows it's just a cheaper, inferior version of the real thing. It's about Nintendo in general.

Re: Nintendo of America Has a Snazzy New Slogan - "There's No Play Like It"

Nintendood

@DekuOnion Good point, and I agree, but I feel like I should point out that it was mentioned before here.

Geno-Beatdown posted...
The shapes don't look bad on the Playstation ads, but my whole life I thought having them on the controller buttons was so lame and such a bad way of designating buttons. Much harder to explain combos and cheats too - and even memorize them yourself in your head ("triangle, circle, circle, triangle, square, triangle..." as opposed to "A, B, B, A, Y, A...")

Re: Nintendo of America Has a Snazzy New Slogan - "There's No Play Like It"

Nintendood

@Kirk I didn't say the weren't unique and innovative anymore

Cool, so we all agree that they are. Good, because that's all the slogan is about. Forget your whole rant about sliced bread and what you think Nintendo thinks people should think... The whole point of the slogan is that they're not even claiming to be better than the competition, just more unique, with ways of experiencing and playing games that are only possible with Nintendo.

@Ryu_Niiyama Yeah, you're right. Both of Sony's slogans that were mentioned are worse than this one - at least this one makes sense! (I agree with Geno that they need to change the sound effects to something less childish, though.)"Greatness awaits" is a horrible slogan in so many ways. You're left wondering...
What is the greatness waiting for? When will we be able to experience it? Does it involve video games? Are you saying we should avoid your current console, because whenever you come out with the next one, it'll actually be great?

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Nintendood

@rjejr not enough home consoles to justify 3rd parties making games for them.

I'm not sure what that's supposed to mean, but I'm guessing you're tryin to say that not enough 3rd parties want to make games for the Wii U - is that it? That's true for all the major companies? I know that quite a few indie developers would be happy to keep making games for it.

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Nintendood

@Darknyht @rjejr
In case you're both serious, Geno and Mallow are two of the good guys in Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars for SNES, along with Mario, Yoshi, Princess Toadstool, and Bowser. Geno's a wooden doll come to life and Mallow's like a puffball from a land in the clouds.

@GenoBeatsMallow @rjejr
Personally, I don't buy anything besides Nintendo consoles, and I'd be fine with it if the NX didn't come out till the end of 2018, since I've got enough unplayed games to last me way longer than that!

Re: Disney Infinity Has Been Cancelled

Nintendood

@worldstraveller @pazuzu
Disney Magical World 1 and 2 were produced and published by Bandai Namco in Japan. The first one was published by Nintendo in the other regions. Whether or not that means Nintendo handled the translation too, I don't know, but I doubt Disney had anything to do with it, and I'm sure this news specifically won't affect the release of that game.

It's crazy to me how many people commenting would jump to conclusions so much just because one brand of whatever you call these isn't successful enough to continue, doesn't necessarily mean anything about the others. Least of all, Amiibos, considering how differently they're handled. Also, Nintendo is not the type of company to make rash decisions in reaction to what any other company is doing.

Re: Homebrew Vulnerability Discovered In 3DS Version Of Citizens Of Earth

Nintendood

@jimi I'm pretty sure it was the last one. Yeah, I saw about 100,000 people posting that were in that situation. I think you missed the point, though. I wasn't saying that Nintendo should want to return to region free because of how many 3DS owners want it that way (although that wouldn't be such a crazy concept), but rather that they should because the region lock has encouraged so many people to resort to using homebrew, that the overall interest in people hacking their 3DS is constantly growing much faster than it would've if no one had a need for getting around the region lock.

It's clear from the amount and frequency of system updates for "increased stability" that Nintendo is not keen on the idea of people using exploits to hack their systems. So hopefully, they'll realize the part they played in contributing to its appeal and just how popular it's become, and avoid making the same mistake in the future...

@PlywoodStick I would like to know a good place to get new shoulder buttons for the original model, and I've already had to get a replacement for the circle pad (from Amazon JP), but I never actually used homebrew on that one. I've had it for so long, and since it cost me more than double the price of the JP New 3DS, I decided that I'd only experiment with using homebrew on the new one.

Re: Wayforward Issues an Update on Shantae: Half-Genie Hero

Nintendood

@RadioShadow You're right, my mistake. I guess this is the only physical thing I'll get...
STANDARD EDITION: This tier adds a physical MUSIC CD containing the full OST & bonus tracks, plus exclusive CD cover artwork and an additional song found only on this CD! [includes all previous rewards]

You're right, that definitely sucks that we'll have to pay full price if we want the physical version, which I'm sure many backers will... Considering it's how the game was paid for in the first place, they should include a deal for us backers when negotiating with these top-tier publishers.

Re: Homebrew Vulnerability Discovered In 3DS Version Of Citizens Of Earth

Nintendood

@jimi What I was getting at about the New 3DS was that a lot of gamers in NA actually did resort to importing it. Maybe some of 'em even did it out of spite, because they didn't like what Nintendo did.

When I was using a msg board site for hacking, I saw lots of people that were inexperienced with homebrew, trying to make their EU or JP New 3DS region free so they could use it to play NA games.
