@Rafie maybe you should take a breath and re read what I wrote. I said I won't argue that Sony "won" slightly (not sure why you got so hung up on how much you think I felt they won by, as it wasn't something I was emphasizing.)
Would Sony be your outright winner if Microsoft didn't block used games and was also $399? If no, that says a lot about what victory is at this past E3. If you feel you automatically win because you have a new shiny box, then this debate of ours is pretty pointless. You're just proving my point that the GAMES on ALL consoles didn't really impress and run away with victory.
"I swear people here hate Sony." So because I agree Sony won by a little, I hate them? I bet I own more Sony game systems and games than you do, but that's beside the point. If you come to a website named NintendoLife and expect people not to have a Nintendo bias, then you're fooling yourself. I don't expect people on PlaystationLover.com to see things my way, LOL.
"Note how I didn't downplay what Nintendo presented like you did Sony.." I'm pretty sure I said the ENTIRE E3 was underwhelming. E3 won by default because they didn't block used games, have a decent pricepoint, and Nintendo's games were pretty safe and expected with no surprises. With that, should I scream from the mountain tops of how great a victory Sony had? Can you name a Sony GAME that was a must have or game changer? Just having a new box, a box in which they revealed everything about except the design months ago, wasn't enough to blow anyone away. The only real surprise might have been the price. Again, Yay...
@Rafie Sony had the best and most entertaining? While I won't argue your opinion that they may have "won" slightly, it wasn't becaue of games they announced. The only real entertaining part was when they started throwing jabs at Microsoft which didn't happen until around 45 min into their conference. Before that it was tv, movies, and music. It was mad BORING as they were getting" that non gaming stuff "out of the way." Did you watch the whole conference? People seem to be mostly saying they won because of the Microsoft jabs, the price, and that they aren't blocking used games, (something that every console manufacturer hasn't done since the first console released in the early 70's). Woohoo.
No one was saying Killzone or Infamous was amazing and stole the show. This E3 was pretty underwhelming considering the stakes. I expected more chances to be taken. But all we got is Racer #27426236 and FPS #3983453984. Wack...
@Linkstrikesback I love how people skew numbers and outcomes to prove their flawed points that are completely full of holes.
"In comparison, the wii u is Nintendos biggest flop of a home console in history, undertracking the previous winner of that title, the gamecube, consistently every month since release."
LoL. What a fail of a comment. Wii U after being out for 6 months, is the biggest flop in Nintendo History. Does that even make sense. You're comparing the first six months of Wii U, to the first six months of Gamecube. Okay, I can do that too. Name another console that has sold more units in it's first six months. You can't. Wii U has sold more than every other console in the history of gaming after six months inclduing PS2, PS3, and Xbox 360. See, I can do it too and it means very little to the OVERALL success of the console.
Let me skew some more. Nintendo has sold nearly 4 million Wii U's WITHOUT a major first party release (New Super Mario U doesn't count). What happens when they release 4 in the second half of this year (Pikmin 3, Donkey Kong, Super Mario 3D World, Wii Fit U,) Not to mention Sonic, The Wonderful 101, and excellent games from Ubisoft which I understand are multiplats?
To call something a flop after 6 months based on sales figures and not upcoming games and support means PS3, Xbox 360, DS, 3DS, etc., were all flops based on their first 6 months sales. And you think Gamecube was a flop? LOL. Gamecube reaped huge profits for Nintendo. The ONLY console that could be considered a flop from Nintendo is Virtual Boy. It was an ill concieved device that Nintendo themselves abandoned.
I don't consider Vita a Flop because of it's sales only. I consider it a flop because it's not selling and Sony doesn't seem to care because they aren't supporting it with any significant games from first or 3rd party. Trying to sell it as a controller for the PS4, LOL.
I thought people already knew this. Miyamoto said years ago that every Link is a different Link because he wanted creative freedom going into every game and therefore he wouldn't have to be tied down to a certain story-line or premise. The timeline is basically fan service as Zelda was never meant to have an episodic story. That's how Nintendo is able to keep their franchises feeling fresh because they are not cow-towed to a setting and character types based on the story.
@stefenjc Remember, if you want to play PS4 online, you have to pay for PS Plus. Sony smoke and mirrors. PS4 is $460 if you want to play online. So $460 + $60 game = $520 before taxes. Just something to consider.
@GreatPlayer "Nintendo says it is the most definitive mario kart. What I saw is improvement in graphics and anti-gravity effect - nothing more." What? Mario Kart TV?
@Roltron That's funny because that's the way I feel after playing a story driven game. Once you complete the story, where's the incentive to keep playing it? But I still go back to ALttP and Super Metroid because I enjoyed the gameplay and exploration so much. Will anyone be playing The Last of Us in 20 years? I think not...
@HeatBombastic Awesome. Love how "Nintendo fans" are of a Hive Mind and all think alike. Is there a database that discloses the tendencies of Nintendo fans?
@Peach64 You can't complain there is no market on a certain console if you don't take thr risk to create one. Fine, the 3DS version didn't sell. Sports games don't sell well on any handhelds. Why not give Wii U a shot? You have ZERO COMPETITION thanks to EA's "unprecedented partnership." No one is blaming 3rd parties for Wii U sales. We are blaming third parties for not trying to making a serious effort in BUILDING a market for their game on Wii U.
Shoddy, watered down, late ports isn't going to cut it. It's business. Risk and reward. Reward isn't guaranteed, but without risk, I guarantee there will be no reward.
And so this is the new world of journalism. You don't have to research leads and contact sources yourself, just raid the twitter account of other "journalists." Print media and investigative journalism is dying because of this?!? We are all effed!
@Cosmo810 He is. That's his shtick. Do you know any other analysts by name? He trolling for attention and there is little downside to trolling Nintendo. He knows that. We continue to give this hack attention. And that's all he cares about. He doesn't care about being right just about being heard. Being th best know analyst gets him more clients and more money.
@Strongo9 PC's are hindering consoles. Instead of just playing games that work when you buy them like the old days, now we get patches, on disk day one DLC difficulty levels that should have been a part of the game, game installs to hard drives that will eventually die, DRM and no used games, and a bunch of whiny elitist graphics whores who care only about how many cores and RAM a system has and care little for innovative GAMEPLAY etc.
"Hey, I heard some guys from another website that you probably aleready go to saying something on a podcast you probably already listened to SPECULATING, something that we could also do and have done about Retro's game."
@ULTRA-64 Funny, I was thinking about that the other day when I was playing Perfect Dark on my N64. It actually wouldn't be hard at all and could easily be added by USB. Though I wouldn't see it necessary for a few years, If ever. It would only be needed for a game ported from PS4 or Xbox One that actually utilized that much extra Ram. Honestly by then, Ninendo might be working on their next console, if there is one in 5-6 years. We could be in the last true console generation with these next gen consoles sadly
@Peach64 said " A dev studios greatest asset is their staff, and you can never own them."
Mostly true, but owning their IP's can be just as great an asset with the right developers reviving them. Like how Retro revived Donkey Kong and Metroid.
