Re: Rumour: More Claims Made For New Legend of Zelda on Wii U and NX, Gender Choice For Playable Character

JpGamerGuy90

That would be a smart move, a swan song for the Wii U and a good game to get early adopters on the NX because all it really needs is to be prettier and people will be on board.

Not sure how I feel about gender swapping Link, he's pretty much an established character. If they handle it well I don't mind, I'll still pick the male version and name him Link because my originality is on point. The only crime is if they make him/her right handed.

Idk about the star fox game WE wanted. Most people wanted a game like star fox 64 not a glorified retread. Assault had a lot of good ideas but bad execution I would have liked to see them expand on it. That said the game looks decent, honestly personal preference aside it's kind of an ugly game on a technical level Nintendo has done much better than this, and I'm probably gonna pick it up on sale as $60 is a little steep for yet another score attack game. I would have loved a star fox game with more mission variety, the ability to play as other characters, and a longer narrative told through cinematics instead of stills and told organically through gameplay a la Kid Icarus.

Re: Research Firm Reckons Nintendo's Spent Nearly $527 Million on Research and Development This Fiscal Year

Hopefully they learned a few key things about online play and how the gaming market has changed as the Wii U woefully underperformed because, frankly, they failed to judge the current gaming market. While innovation is nice it takes a good deal of game variety for people to line to buy your console and the Wii U had a distinct lack of games. All too common was a 3-4 month drought (this lasted the entire life of the system which is unacceptable regardless how you try to spin it) of NO releases, and I don't even mean major ones, I'm talking no new games period.

Hopefully Nintendo has a system with decent specs, good online with party chat, a proper account system, and a controller that doesn't alienate users by a) being underutilized and b) driving up the price of the console that clearly made compromises to suit the controller.

Re: Digital Foundry Breaks Down the Resolution and Framerate in Pokkén Tournament

I think anyone who thinks the wii u is a significant jump over the 360/ps3 is deluding themselves. The Wii U is basically a 7th gen console with mid 7th gen specs. There really isn't a single Wii U game you can point to and say, "This looks much better than anything on the PS3 and 360." Xenoblade X is grand but the character models are ugly, the animation is stiff and it has little to no AA to speak off. Mario Kart 8 suffers from lack of AA and simplistic textures, the list goes on and on. It's still capable of solid looking titles but c'mon folks, it's time to stop calling a spade a diamond when it's just a spade.

On topic, Pokken looks pretty neat though it's not my style of fighting game. Kind of wish we got more original titles for the Wii U this year instead of ports but everyone knows the Wii U is basically dead so I'm happy with just about anything at this point.

Re: Review: Miitomo (Mobile)

JpGamerGuy90

Nintendo may improve the app over time but recent history leads me to believe the current iteration may all it really ever becomes. Miiverse is still laughably slow and we've been clamoring for a real account system for years but Nintendo just let's things fester and it's really unfortunate as things like Miitomo are a swell idea but when you get past the cute novelty that's really all it is and all it's ever going to be.

I can see it being popular as everyone and their unborn brother has a smartphone by now but I can't say I think the app is "good," by any stretch. Still Nintendo in the mobile space is a good thing and soon we may see full-fledged smartphone games produced by Nintendo.

Re: Talking Point: My Nintendo and Its Account System Start The Process of Unifying Platforms

JpGamerGuy90

Really hope the NX is a system that feels "modern," everything from the UI to Miiverse to the Eshop just feels archaic in a way. Nothing is tied to your account (despite claims that it is when its actually tied to an account which is tied to your system) and it really feels like Nintendo just wants to control everything you do. From being unable to communicate with friends online outside of a select few games (even then its mitigated to just lobbies which is worthless) or having to buy an entire game to get a few extra characters (hyrule warriors legends) to even having to pay full price for a game you already own as there isn't a cross buy feature (which has been a staple on sony's platform for awhile) it just seems Nintendo refuses to adapt to the times.

Nintendo used to be cutting edge but since the Wii they've been woefully behind. I really hope they get the NX right, they need to honestly, because it's their last shot for me to view them as a major player in the console industry.
