@Octane At the moment Nintendo is showing stuff outside the company itself (even closed doors), stuff starts to leak out. It’s better to be on top of things; so it makes sense to announce the system and control the media, instead of rumors starting to leak.
Of course rumors leak anyway, but now Nintendo is able to publicly denounce them (which they already did a few times).
@RupeeClock that's why I think the NX will be Android based. That way the at least have support from Unity, Unreal engine, Game maker, etc as well as most free development tools.
@Octane some of the bigger publishers/developers get behind closed doors previews of the system, waaay before the public gets to see it.
@ikki5 at the moment they announced the deal for mobile games there was obviously doubt.
@James_mussell98 100+ puzzles (about 6 hours in gameplay) for 2,99! Including puzzles based on Indie titles (Toki Tori, Mutant mudds) and retro consoles!
the game has an metacritic score of 79%
@useranodyne it's not a clone, it's done by the original designer... he just sold the Ichi IP to the publisher, so he's not allowed to use the name Ichi. Consider this a spiritual successor.
@Captain_Gonru ofcourse I don't want you to buy a third party game just for the sake of it. A game needs to be good, period. But you agreed with Windy's statement which was "Im going to pass on this golf game if its 1.00 dollar or more above the android market pricing".
I think skipping over a game just for that reasons is bad.
@Windy no game should have game crashing bugs, regardless if it's a mobile port or not. In fact, if the devs sell a broken game for 99 cents.. i still think it's a waste of money!
The devs and games you mention have nothing to do with this Golf game. So saying you won't get this golf game unless the price is the same as the mobile version is a bit harsh.
Also, comparing this to Bertil Horberg or even me (Tappingo 1&2 are also only 2,99) is a bit unfair. Both Bertil and me are single indie developers. While these guys have to keep a complete studio running. So development costs are different.
@Windy @Captain_Gonru
Hmm.. I think you guys are looking at it from the wrong direction. Here’s another view:
The mobile market place is so over saturated and competitive that developers HAVE TO price their games under $1, even though the developer think their game is worth much more.
In this case it would be good for Nintendo players to buy the 3DS versions (even at a higher price) to show that the 3DS eshop market is a valid option. This will then increase the number of third party developers hopefully
I know exactly what you mean. And I’m really honored you want to play something I made so badly
The problem is that ‘real’ gamers only make up a small portion of my sales. A big chunk is coming from the casual group. Since I really need the money to spend on development of other games, I think we are all better off with delaying the game
@Stuffgamer1
It’s not so much that those games compete with each other, but they compete over space. There are only so many spots on the ‘Nintendo 3DS spotlight’ bar at Nintendo.com. Nintendo can only talk about x-number of games in their newsletter. There are only so many slots on the eshop home screen.
Tappingo 2 is smaller than Layton or Gunvolt. So naturally this week those spotlight positions will go to those games. Next week though; all spotlights are on Tappingo 2.
Nintendo.com and the eshop reach a lot of people that don’t necessarily read gaming websites or magazines. But they are probably still interested in a fun puzzle game.
So having those spotlights on Tappingo 2 can be really crucial for sales.
It’s fun to see how you guys think this game is garbage solely based on visuals. Now you might not like pixel art as a style, that’s fine. But when it comes to actually pushing the FPS gerne forward it’s a really helpful style.
One of the key things I want to break away from are those linear levels. Instead I want to offer something complex with a certain flow. At the same time, I want to let the player battle out epic gun fights with many different enemies at once.
Pixel art style helps with this because it makes enemies and powerups really readable. We give each item and enemy its own palette this means that when you’re running down a level and you see something purple in the corner of your eye, you will know instantly what monster that is.
So the art style really helps to give the player a better overview and grip on the more complex and chaotic world.
@DadOfFour1972 Will come a bit later to EU. This is my first game I self publish and doing the translations, e-manual,ratings,etc take a lot of time (next to actual development).
@TheRealThanos sorry, thought they skipped a year. But still, I’m happy to see the biggest third party developer/publisher to hang in there with Nintendo.
Sure, I would love to see games of better quality. But with the market totally down, small user base and high investments, that’s unlikely to happen at this moment.
This is probably a unpopulair opinion, but I think it’s great what EA is doing. It’s not their fault the WiiU has such as small userbase, that’s something Nintendo should solve.
You cannot expect a public company to invest into a platform or product they cannot make a profit on.
This however does show that Nintendo is moving in the right direction; because one of the biggest third party developers/publishers is back on the system!
@sinalefa @Frapp I actually did spend a small fortune David, however upon discovering that my studio was actually my bathroom he walked out.. I vaguely heard him mumble something about ‘standards’
Because I spend a considerable amount of the budget on David, half of the puzzles in Tappingo 2 will not be colored in
@Froggievilleus don't worry! I'm not offended.. I know you liked the game and all I was just wondering if you thought you felt like you should have gotten more content for the $2,99
@Nintendojuenger it seems there are two groups, one who loves more like the relaxing zen-like puzzles (which Tappingo offers) and the other group who really want their brains to crack on the puzzles!
Tappingo 2 is more of the same. However, I am working on a new puzzle mechanic. I’m not sure If I will put this eventually in Tappingo or make it a game on it’s own. It’s basically like Tappingo but you have prismas on the grid, when hit by colored lines it will mix the colors and spit out a new colored line!
@ejamer sure, and I hope everybody will have a great time again with Tappingo 2; but if you expect me to put in more than 8 hours of content for $2,99, you are wrong
@Froggievilleus too short!? how long did it take you to finish all puzzles? on average it took gamers 8 hours! I know full priced retail games that don’t last that long, let alone a $2,99 game!
@ToonLink795 yes ofcourse that's possible it supports most standard file formats (bmp, jpg, gif, tga, etc for art).
@andrea987 Thanks! and yeah, go ahead and email me
@Kaze_Memaryu it is tile based, but not stuck to one genre. Programming is done in a C-like scripting language I invented specially for Gomba. Locking code is possible, not sure I will include that feature though.
@vonseux @Dezzy Because Nintendo does not Judge on style/taste, and hopefully they never will. You guys might think this art style doesn’t look good, other people might really like it!
Also, I have been playing this game for quite some time.. and it’s actually really good. Plays like classic Megaman and Castlevania!
@Frapp If enough British gamers buy the game during the sale; I will hire Sir David Jason as voice actor and make him say it everytime you complete a puzzle in Tappingo 2!
@Frapp I hereby promise to add the additional %3 I earn from British gamers to the budget of my next game and use it to add something British to the game (the flag? A cup of tea perhaps?).
@gurtifus No, you do not need a devkit. All you need is a standard retail 3DS and the eshop app.
@NintendoMonkey yes, it will come to EU and US
@Liquid_ice It is not a emulator. It’s a simulator. Best way to explain this to non-technical people would be; If you create a movie/game in Flash, you can run it on any platform that has the flash player installed. So imagine Adobe would release a flash player for eshop, now you’ll be able to run flash movies/games on your 3DS. Even though the actual flash movie format has nothing to do with the 3DS.

@ZenTurtle Just like Tappingo 1 this game will cost 2,99 euro. There is no level editor, but many other improvements over the original game

@DadOfFour1972 soon... real soon... it's currently at LOT check
Re: Mario Maker Japanese Website Points to Inclusion of Yoshi and, Maybe, Kuribo's Shoe
Adding Yoshi would be cool.
I would like to point out there is already a 8-bit version of Yoshi, although non-playable.
It was used for the Super Mario Deluxe game on Gameboy Color.

@ToastyYogurt That probably won’t be possible. It would require a keyboard on the touch screen or something. That would be really tiresome.
