@michellelynn0976 you friend definitely has no idea what they are doing. steam deck is a PC, he should use the right settings and it will run well or he should stick to console
@N00BiSH it runs well on Steam Deck, since it is a PC, you need to go into the settings and change things to suit your needs. with the switch 2, I'm guessing there will be no graphical settings beyond performance and fidelity.
@Astral-Grain berate is too strong a word, but I may put in a complaint. Just be truthful and set a reasonable time. if you know, mistakes can happen, add that into consideration.
I'm a contractor, and I give my clients reasonable deadlines for completion and milestones even on the smallest projects. If you know there can be a delay, put that into consideration. If I don't meet deadlines, I stand to lose my contract.
"The way you're talking, it sounds like you'd rather be lied to or given an unfinished product simply because it has to meet a "promised" deadline. " dude you are already being lied to. when was the last time anyone believed any initial release date? We all know most of the developers are lying about the release date. developers know, investors know, and customers know. LOL, stop the silliness.
"It's a bloody video game." so just come up with reasonable release dates instead of lying to us.
@Astral-Grain instead of delaying games they could plan ahead better and give a more accurate release date. People are only disappointed because they were promised a release at a said date and it didn't happen. Now if they had just said from the start, it will come out in July 2022, people will not be disappointed.
It happens too often in gaming nowadays. Game developers know how long development will take but intentionally set release dates they cannot fulfil.
@pgerhard I get that reviews are subjective but putting it on the level of botw and link's awakening makes the review unbelievable and almost valueless because there is no way you can put it on the same level as those two. You still gotta make your review believable
@BloodNinja Lol..funny guy. You can't make an argument, then tell me to leave you alone and not expect a respond. You claim, it's the wrong user and still make argument. Here is an amazing idea, don't respond!
You say you want a more powerful switch? What else would that switch be on par with if not the PS4 or xbone?
And no, Nintendo literally can't afford better hardware without taking high risks or a high price tag. We all know that Nintendo consoles can undersell ex. GameCube and Wii U.
Y'all think running a company is a piece of cake. Nintendo is doing the best with what they have.
Nintendo have to pay 10,000s of workers, maintain their buildings, distribution chain, marketing, game development, hardware division, taxes, and countless others. And the money they have all go into that.
Microsoft have the expertise when it comes to the computer side. They have access to the best software and even hardware engineers right at Microsoft itself. on the server and PaaS, IaaS, etc side, they are huge. Microsoft is diversified, they make software, hardware (especially servers, computer solutions for corporations such as cloud ex. Azure is huge in the corporate world).
They even have better logistics. So they can afford to make consoles cheap without excessive loss. They have the knowhow, expertise, and resources already.
Sony has movies ex. Spider-man, venom and co are making billions. They also have Sony music, which is making 100s of millions. They manufacture phones, laptops, tvs, fridges, etc. So when it comes to developing modern hardware, they have better know-how, expertise, resources, logistics and all. They are also better diversified.
Microsoft & sony can take the chance as of selling at a loss as well , even if Xbox is in trouble they have the whole Microsoft to hold it up and keep things steady on the shares and market side. Sony has their movies, music, fridges, tvs, laptops, etc. So their shares won't tank as bad as Nintendo (who only have games and video game IPs) if they have a bad console generation.
Unlike Sony, and Microsoft, if Nintendo has 2 bad console generation they are in a lot of trouble.
Public trust will tank, their market shares will plummet, and Nintendo will probably go the way of Sega. At Nintendo everything (90% of what they are about) is dependent on selling consoles and games.
Because of that Nintendo needs to be more careful about how they invest their money. If they make and sell powerful consoles at higher prices, people may not buy it. If they sell them at the same price and the console flop they won't survive it.
Can Nintendo design a very powerful console? (Yes)
And sell it as cheaply as Microsoft and Sony do? No they can't unless they are willing to bet the survival of their company on it and that is bad business.
Without all the resources, knowhow, etc, a switch as powerful as a PS4 will be far more expensive. Probably $500.
@BloodNinja I don't know your sources but it's wrong.
Next time use a credible source like Forbes. And look at revenues, assets and profits. Revenue is the money they actually have. Assets are the resources they use in production (divisions, capital like machinery, factories, human resources, logistics, etc) and profits is Profit = Revenue – Costs.
Sony's assets are $250 billion, revenue is $80 billion.
Nintendo's assets are $22 billion, and revenue is $15 billion.
As you can see Nintendo isn't there at all.
Sony makes PCs, laptops, TV's, etc. When it comes to the tech side they have better logistics, better know-how, etc.
@BloodNinja well if Nintendo had the resources of Sony or Microsoft, they won't have to use a remodified tegra chipset and the switch would probably be a lot more powerful and nier would be ported with no problem at all.
@TheFrenchiestFry Nintendo don't have Microsoft And Sony money. those companies can afford to sell consoles at a loss. Nintendo even have to use remodified chipset.
@BloodNinja nintendo doesn't have the resources of Microsoft or Sony. You should look at the amount microsoft and even Sony pay to acquire studios, Nintendo can't.
@Casual_Gamer95 lol the game makers themselves did consider the Nintendo switch so they clearly thought it's possible.
System requirements and all that is determined right at the start. If they didn't think they could make it run on the switch they won't have even considered it. I'm sure it's just a matter of resources. nier isn't a big seller anyway.
@Peteykins I doubt, unless you wanna sell hardly any copies. Nier isn't a huge seller to begin with. Putting in all that work to port it just for a switch pro is suicide.
@itarou I did a little translation in the university as a minor. (French & English). It's not as simple as just understanding both languages. Ex. I know Japanese people can be overly polite & even with criticizing they say things nicer than they mean it. Their words are generally more polite than the sentiment they seek to put across (I schooled for a year in tokyo). A professional translator will ensure english translated to Japanese add the necessary politenesses and the excess politenesses will be removed when translating japanese to english.
I know translators take a lot of things into account, not just the words. As such someone who simply speak both languages will definitely be at odds with translations to and from the two languages in question.
I think y'all are being way too harsh on the translator since you speak both languages. Knowing what I know about translation, I believe the sentiment he wished to put across is that which was translated
@Damo I'm gonna side with the Official translation which is included in the article over you. If sega official translation says so, then it is so unless they themselves recant it.
@Maxz My source is Sega Europe's official translation which is done by professional translators. I never said google translate is my source. If so then google translate is also your source as well since you claimed to use it. I don't get why you're intentionally twisting what I say
GameXplainn and the others aren't professional translators including Damo. And these sources you quote are based on itarou's tweets and even GameXplain & others take both sides. All they say is that it might be Sega's official translation or the other.
& Google translate isn't wrong. As an IT personnel, even I have used soft & hard to refer physical & non-physical computer components. The word hard refers to physical ex. Hard drive, hardware, hard copy, hard error etc. Hard generally refers to physical in computing
One more thing, stop that shifty behavior. It isn't fair. I'm not intentionally discrediting you, don't do the same to me - ex. Claiming the source I provide is google translate knowing full well it isn't. Claiming I'm jumping on everyone because I'm butthurt. Etc.
@Maxz Hmmmm, I implore you to go through the comments again because actually the only person I'm in opposition to is Damo and it's about the translation of what was said by Toshihiro Nagoshi.
My point is SEGA EUR got the translation RIGHT. And evidence? Just read the Sega's official translation in the article itself. That's what I told Damo. I mean which and which Japanese speakers am I opposing here?
Other replies of mine, even towards you, is a reply to my reply to Damo & is mainly about the affirmation of my support of the sega's official translation.
Also, I'm not the only one in disagreement with the author. Heck 80% of the comments are in disagreement with him!
Toshihiro Nagoshi said what he said and he knew what he said & sega got that translation, right!
Edit: you can watch the video yourself, https://youtu.be/q3oA9zyvkEM those are professional translations, not something google translate came up with. The interview and translation are done by professionals and they got the translation spot on.
@Maxz SMH, really you didn't get the Google translation? I'm not shocked because it seems you got your own agenda ongoing. hardware = hard. Lol you really didn't figure that out? Smh.
The google translation is "but basically I think it's hardware for kids and teens."
@Maxz The Japanese you yourself posted says "nintendo hardware is for kids & teens". I've asked the Japanese friends I have, they say that's what it said. Just to make sure, I even Google translated it, & it says the same thing.
You're just trying to be convoluted and trying to come up with meaning that doesn't exist.
@Maxz sorry but he says it's hardware for kids. I've seen the twitter posts, even had a few Japanese people translate it, all of them says, he meant it's hardware for kids.
@Damo kindly read the article or even the original posts. The "aimed for kids" is nintendo life's interpretation of what he said in one phrase for a title.
What he actually said is that nintendo is hardware for kids. Nintendo is for kids.
He's not saying it as a plus or a negative. He's saying it as an explanation for his decision making. Regardless of whatever games he's made, he's just wrong.
@Damo did you read the article? I think the guy is wrong regardless of what game he designed. He didn't simply say, the consoles does well with kids, he didn't say, kids also like the consoles. These are true of PS and Xbox as well.
He simply says although a wide age range plays on the console, it's basically a console for kids and teens. He's saying regardless of who plays it, it's still a kid's console. That's just wrong.
@Lionyone once again, I will ask. Have you been to a modern Japanese office? I did a one year post grad program in Tokyo, and every single office I visited and one which I interned at had real natural plants. There is no way Nintendo has fake plants in their offices. That makes no sense and doesn't go with the corporate culture in Japan. Anyone who has actually been to Japan knows you're full of ***** so stop with your WWII nonsense & baseless assumptions.

@Lionyone I can assure you it's real plants. Why the heck will there have that much fake plants. This is a modern Japanese office, of course the plants are real and are meant to filter the air. SMH
