Re: The First Three Dragon Quest Games Will Be Released On The Switch eShop In Japan

@Thraxmo well my response was going to be this looks like it’s based on the phone port which was in English so should be fairly simple to bring across. It is obviously much better than the phone ports since the Switch has real controls, it isn’t stuck in portrait and the whole portable/TV aspect. I own all the DQ games on my phone and would happily rebuy them all on Switch. Ideally we get 1-9 but I think it’s more realistic to expect 1-8 (let me dream of the Switch being the perfect RPG machine with all my favourites please 😀)

Re: Disgruntled Gamers Are Review-Bombing Astral Chain On Metacritic

@nessisonett my parents were up a few weeks ago and brought back a bunch of stuff which has now run out. I’m now missing tattie scones so much I’m going to try and make my own this weekend.

The worst bit is I can’t even point to any stuff we get down here exclusively either as a counterpoint!

The bit that drives my point home the most I think is I know most of the cafes in Brighton that have black pudding in their breakfasts. A lot don’t have it and most of the time it’s an optional extra.

Re: Some Fans Are Calling For A Boycott Of Pokémon After Creatures Inc Shares Controversial Tweet

@BoilerBroJoe I was there back in 2007 and wasn’t aware of the controversy for a few days (until it was on the news as the PM went) and as I said before it was a beautiful place with a very very strange museum attached. The stuff on pre ww2 history was all well and good and I always like looking at old armour and swords but after I read “America forced Japan to attack it after it’s naked show of aggression” (or words to that effect) I couldn’t stop laughing and had to revisit all the other bits to see if I could spot any Japanese Nationalism arguments in them. Definitely eye opening as it was my first experience with seeing WW2 from a axis apologist slant.

I’ve actually been to the shrine (has anyone else in the comments gone there?) and it is a very beautiful temple.

I’ve also been aware of the controversy around it all since I went (when I was in Japan it was in the news for the prime minister of the time going there) and I can see why Chinese and Korean people are pissed as the Japanese army did unspeakably awful things and quite a lot of people weren’t prosecuted (this is the fact I’m shakiest on and I can’t remember where I read it so if someone else has any further info please post).

There’s also an attached museum which is quite eye opening as it blames America for forcing japan to attack pearl harbour and also claims japan just wanted to look after all of Asia under a Co-prosperity sphere to make everyone’s lives better... try squaring that up with the rape of nanking or unit 731

Re: Amid Closures And The Decline Of Print Media, Raspberry Pi Is Launching A New Games Mag

Glassneedles

@MrGawain I don't think profits are the main aim of this magazine. The other 2 magazines put out by Raspberry Pi (MagPi and HackSpace) have all issues available to download as PDFs on their website. Their main aim is to expand the Raspberry Pi community and highlight interesting projects.

It's a non for profit organisation looking to get more people into coding and it seems to be succeeding at that and selling a lot of computers in the process.

Re: Review: Okami HD (Switch eShop)

@nincompoop

PS2 used DVDs which are 4.2GB if single layered or 8.5GB if dual layered (you refocus the laser slightly to get the other layer which is why you sometimes get a 1-2 second pause when watching a movie on DVD around half way).

I'm pretty sure they upressed the textures which would account for the other 500 or so MB.

Re: Nintendo Hints That Not All Switch Games Will Support Cloud Saves

I would hazzard a guess that minecraft wont be compatible. When you first boot it up it automatically created a 2GB reserved area on your onboard memory. As far as i understand thats not immediatrly used but is so you can have multiple worlds saved at once. Hopefully it means things like that rather than it needing to be patched in.
