Metroid Dread is easily one of the best games on the console and is likely my favorite game for the switch. If we can get more games like that, I’m all in!
So we are expected to believe that almost none of the 10 best selling games of the year were heavily tweeted about? Not even the highly anticipated games that had been years since we seen the likes of them (Metroid Dread).
Nobody’s at all troubled by the fact that they have been collecting this much information on your activity, even though the majority of your games have been single player?
As somebody that's owned an OLED TV for several years and multiple phones with the technology installed, I can honestly say that it isn't as big a deal if it is implemented properly.
My LG TV doesn't have even a small shred of burnin, not even a single pixel.
Neither of my OLED iPhones developed any burn in either.
My Galaxy S8, well that had significant burn in, so it's clearly something Samsung was doing wrong with it.
If you don't leave the screen paused on the same thing for days at a time, you're not going to see an issue. Many of the tv's that have had the issue, were because they left a channel logo in the same spot for days.
@ElStormo That’s why I said they could put some code in the game that won’t run if it doesn’t find a valid switch hardware ID. That doesn’t necessarily have to be the online verification system.
Crud, remember when people couldn’t figure out the BD decryption keys and then they only found the, because somebody got careless. Same idea!
@Whitestrider You don’t know what device finger printing is? It’s basically making a hash based around the hardware that’s in the device. Of course it can be more complex than that and include multiple parts, but it is an actual identifier for the hardware.
Sure everybody would be pissed that the console needed to check in to play games, but the code in the game could refuse to run if it doesn’t get the right response from the server. Or you could make it so that only certain aspects of the game would fail to run.
Oh and they could create an activation file for the game the first time it is run on the switch.
Yes these all suck for the people not pulling this crap, but it largely works.
@Whitestrider Sure they can, build a device fingerprint into the switch and they make future games so they won’t run if that authentication and signed fingerprint isn’t there.
The downside is you would have to keep the database online.
Or they could make an official switch emulator with a built in game store.
@Pirate1 I guess things might have been different when I was his age! We didn’t have the internet and it wasn’t every day that some kid made $110K in a year.
The law very well could have been there 36 years ago too, but I never new anyone that made more than $12K a year as a teenager.
@BarryandWill Again, you're assuming that's what he did... He might have been given one switch or Xbox Series X. Maybe he collected those Pokemon cards for years and used them to fund this.
I think the dad might have been funding it, but that's hard to prove.
@SwitchForce That's a BS statement. Anyone could have done this because profits doubling means that product is doubling too. If you sold just one item, you're buying 2 next time, and then 4, then 8.
Now the skills to build the bots is another issue entirely, but once he had that going, there really wasn't anything stopping him (maybe he paid for the bot and that's why he only made $110K).
Anyway, not everything is about race or presumed privilege.
Valis and Y’s were some of the best RPGs back in the day, they were far better than the Zelda adventures and at the time, Final Fantasy couldn’t hold a candle to them.
Stupid people tried to proclaim that some of these were just Zelda clones, but they were far more in depth than Zelda was in that time frame.
Ignition, Valis IV, and Donkey Kong Country 3 are great additions to this library!
@Snatcher Yeah, but I wonder how many people with the older consoles tried running the game in performance mode, to see if it will solve some of the issues on the Xbox One and PS4.
See I want a switch pro that can amp up the power to deliver 4K gaming and I want it to be a traditional console without the battery or built in screen.
Then I want a switch go that has cloud sync with the pro version for when I take my games on the road.
@damien33ad Because we are in a binge culture, that’s why!
I remember playing pitfall (yes the original) and it was the same thing forever... Pitfall II came out and it actually had a goal and an ending, it took me a few days to finally master that game! But a few years went by and I came back to it and beat it in under 30 minutes, I couldn’t believe I thought it was so long prior to that.
The reality is, we go through a lot of the older games and they’re generally a lot shorter than we realized! Speed runs that happen in about 5 minutes, for games that played for days.
Anyway, Odyssey is a great game and people who think it’s too short, probably praise BOTW, even though huge parts of that game are wandering in ridiculously long landscapes, how short would that be without them?
@NintendoArchive Um, there’s an ending if you get them all, not sure why you say no substance. It’s like the side quests in Spider-Man, they’re not useless just because they’re not part of the main story.
@NintendoArchive Sorry, but 4 hours on first play through is BS. You will take longer than that figuring out where all the stars are. If you know the game sure.
I think people are just spoiled, Super Mario 64 wasn’t anywhere near that number of stars and for decades it was held as the best ever.
Also, it’s different things to get the remaining 770 stars. A lot of games are that way.
Sorry but Odyssey was better than all of them and the only 2 that are within one star are Super Mario 64 and Super Mario 3D Land.
I get people want to hate on Odyssey, but it was the most innovative since Super Mario 64 or Super Mario Bros 3 if we are including side scrolling games.

Re: You Can Get Your Official 'Year In Review' Switch Stats Now
@gcunit I don’t recall them asking to collect that. It doesn’t matter how irrelevant the data seams, they shouldn’t be collecting it.

@CANOEberry geez, I don’t think he’s going to have the same result as Bruce Banner with that. 😂😁

Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC
@ElStormo Why? You can emulate the hardware all you want without stealing games. Crud, home brew is a real thing.
Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC
@ATaco Everyone who has one says the screen is incredible and the stand is a game changer.

@Whitestrider No, I don’t believe they are. If you are able to rip these files that easily, then you’re not doing a very good job.
Re: Nintendo's Switch Exclusive Metroid Dread Is Already Being Emulated On PC
Anybody willing to do this, or use these tools, has no respect for the value of somebody else's work. Have some respect for others!
If everyone did this, there would be no new Nintendo games!
I want to seriously see Nintendo make an encrypted system ID that validates whether the rom is being accessed on a legitimate console.

@Nookingtons They won't, under 18 and you're tax-exempt. I bet the dad was funding this venture in his son's name to avoid the taxes.

It’s the best console on the market because the dared to do something different and it’s paid off big time.
