I prefer the convenience of digital. But in a house with more than one Switch, Nintendo makes sharing digital games too damn difficult! So I buy physical. I also hate how Nintendo treats past games--they abandon so many good games. The virtual console was so cool and the fact they got rid of it is my biggest disappointment with the Switch and another reason I buy physical. If I want to play BOTW or Odyssey or whatever else again in the future, I don't want to have to pay another $60. Microsoft and Sony have much better policies on digital media when you buy or upgrade to a new console--Nintendo needs to follow suit.

Of course the world is worried! People have invested a lot of money in Switch software. While Sony and Microsoft let you keep your digital games from one gen to the next, Nintendo has been outright hostile towards customers keeping their digital libraries--going so far as to completely change their digital strategy from one console to the next. I buy mostly cartridges for the Switch, but still have a decent amount of digital games. I don't trust that either form factor will transfer to the next system.

I downloaded it. Didn’t quite understand the point. Hated seeing a trail of flowers that tracked my walks and shared it with anyone else playing. Plus it tracks location 24/7–which not only hurt my phone battery, but is creating a massive tracking database. So lots of reasons for me to delete it. I’m curious how many of the 2m downloads have already been uninstalled.

I’m another person not giving them my money for this. I’ve had NOS twice over the past 5 years—the second time I was shocked at how few games were added and how little the service improved.

With XBox, I can start a game on my console, continue it later on my cell phone or laptop, then go back to the console. All seamless. Meanwhile, Nintendo makes it as hard as possible to play games on both my Switch and Switch Lite that are both linked to my account. The Switch has been a lot of fun, but the online is so far behind it’s embarrassing.

I let my NOL subscription expire. There are too many games that I have zero interest in. And many of those I wanted to try I played once or twice and never revisited. Sometimes memories are better than going back to relive the past. Also, Nintendo has taught me to never trust them when it comes to frequency or quality of updates. I’ll only buy into it after it has what I feel is adequate value—not in the hope that they’ll come out with good values as the year progresses. It feels like sometimes they actively try to prove that people don’t really want what we’re asking for (GameCube games, anyone?).

Re: You'll Be Able To Transfer Save Files Between Switch And Switch Lite, Eventually

I don’t like “eventually.” I had a GameCube and Gameboy Advance with the cable that was supposed to allow all sorts of things. All I remember is letting my kids play as Tingle in Wind Waker to help find stuff. It never worked as a second controller the way Nintendo originally sold that setup.

More importantly, I have to be online to use eShop games? If I bought one of these to take out of the house, then I have to designate it as my primary console or find WiFi? Seems weird I’d have to make the portable console primary while the more expensive one connected to the tv is secondary.

I really like the convenience of digital downloads but man, Nintendo makes things harder than they should be!
