@Rontanamo_Bay Did it ever occur to you that people here that have negative opinions and views might be life long Nintendo fans that are feeling burned by the Switch? If gaming is "just a hobby. For fun", then why are you taking @jimi 's criticism so seriously? Additionally, nobody has to try "really hard to find reasons to trash them". Nintendo have provided plenty of ammunition with their ineptitude and disregard for their customer base.
@jimi Glad I'm not the only one feeling like some people on here really are shills rather than regular commenters. The apology is real. Prease understand!
@FullbringIchigo They couldn't possibly have implemented live streaming or it would have become impossible for them shut down all the YouTube channels uploading their content...
@polarbear That's certainly the direction we're headed in, here in this wonderful world of endless taxation.
@LetsGoRetro @FiveDigitLP Generally, the reason many individuals prefer the original Japanese over their own language is because the people who created the game will have had input on how the voice parts were acted and portrayed. As in the case of Hayao Miyazaki having personally directed all voice sessions in most, if not all, his films, the original Japanese acting will always be closer to, and more representative of, the intent of the of the creator. Compare the English voice work on Spirited Away, for example, to the original Japanese. Disney changed so many things in the script of that film in English that it completely altered the characters' development and the pacing of the plot.
Also, @LetsGoRetro, don't pretend like you're not doing what you accuse others of; trying to act "cool and trendy" by bashing people who prefer something other than their native language is just as bad as any weebish nonsense that bothers you. Get over yourself.
The majority of comments here being of the "at the current price point, this thing really needs a pack-in title" nature says everything about Nintendo's decisions regarding the Switch. Despite what certain commenters think about the quality or value of the tech put into the system, public perception is king when it comes to business. The vast majority of potential customers will look at the Switch and it's lack of pack-in software and immediately be turned-off. The current pricing structure is obviously leaving a bad taste in most people's mouths. It does not bode well for the future of the system.
@MarcelRguez @KO-Cub Thank you both for breathing some sense into this discussion. It's refreshing to see comments on here that AREN'T rushed-to, emotional conclusions with little basis in fact.
@FengLong @K8sMum We have to remember, FengLong, that them there fancy, edumacated peoples up in them there high-rise buildins in the cities know better than us. @jpfan1989 Leftists have constantly insulted Texans for discussing secession these past few years but now, all of a sudden, lefty Californians wants to secede. Funny how that works, eh?
@Priceless_Spork You've been spot-on yourself, friend. On the subject of media influence, it's like no one living today has heard of Edward Bernays (Sigmund Freud's nephew), the father of propaganda.
@shaneoh @Dakt It's because the spine has been removed from the majority of the American population. The mere thought of standing for something greater than themselves causes them convulsions. They need the nanny state to coddle and protect them from all the scary people in the world. If the state goes tyrannical (as if it hasn't already) then where oh where could they turn? To those same scary people they fear? The mean, evil, HATEFUL racists with all the guns?
I'm just going to lay this out bluntly as someone who has been deeply ingrained in the political affairs of the USA for the last 10 years.
1) If you seriously think Trump is Hitler, you have NO IDEA who or what Hitler really was.
2) If you think Trump is racist, you have NO IDEA what racism really is.
3) If you think Trump is itching to start war, nuclear or otherwise, you're grossly misinformed.
4) If you only get your information from mainstream media (or msm parroting idiots on social media), that explains why you may think/believe the above. It also means that you have NO IDEA what is really going on in the world.
And lastly, 5) If you think more-of-the-same is what the USA and the world at large need, you have absolutely NO GRASP on reality.
We are all headed into very, very dark times. This election and Brexit, though, may be showing us one last shred of hope ( that hope is not that Trump is some kind of savior but that people at large are waking up from the mass media programming). Let's hope more people of the world awaken to the truth of the matter and we may just be able to shift our course before it's too late.
@happylittlepigs Thankfully, Cephadrome wasn't quite as irritating as it was in 4U (at least in LR) but boy howdy could I live happy never seeing another one again. When juxtaposed in the same game with the newer monsters, the older ones really show their age.
CrazedCavalier Thanks again for speaking truth. I've heard countless complaints about the games getting easier when a lot of the difficulty of the PSP titles came from wonky hit boxes and the like. 3U was absolutely easier than 4U and Generations both so the difficulty is definitely on the increase. Saying Generations is worse because it's easier than a G-rank outing without having G-rank itself is ridiculous. XX will let us truly compare and will hopefully be the end of this.
I got Prime back on release day on the Cube and it's held a special place for me ever since. I still get chills thinking about walking in to a new area and having it go dark as Chozo Ghosts come out to play. Still get creeped-out remembering those dark rooms in the space pirate base in Phendrana Drifts with the Metroids lurking about (the build-up to Metroids as enemies was phenomenal). The on-the-fly beam switching. The unique super charge attacks of each of the beams. The atmospheric underwater exploration. The insane diversity in flora and fauna. I could go on and on.
Prime is an absolute classic. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is also incredibly good and a legitimately challenging game, especially for its time.
@Jadon1984 The GBA games really were great. I still have the Wii remake of the original packed away in a closet, too. That ending was something else.
I'd say the height of the series, though, was Klonoa 2: Lunatea's Veil on PS2 (which I have packed away right next to the Wii one). That game grabbed me in a way I never thought a platformer could. The challenge areas were incredibly, technically demanding and satisfying, too. Top notch stuff. Klonoa deserves a comeback!
Retail price of 12,938 Yen. According to Google, that's $123.56 USD. It's starting to feel like we're REALLY getting a deal here in the U.S. on 2DS at $79.99.
@CrazedCavalier Thanks for speaking truth on the matter of MHX/Gen. So many people complain about the upgrade system when it is essentially the same with some improvements. And the styles are anything but useless. If anything should be complained about, it's the inclusion of Cephadrome right after 4U. That thing needs to die and never come back! Oh, and Gun Lance being nerfed into the ground
Also, is anyone else getting a Kumatetsu (Boy and the Beast) vibe from Incineroar? The new animation style in the Sun and Moon anime is kinda similar to the film, as well.
Anybody else slightly perturbed by how much glee is in the smiling face of the female trainer during the Tapu Z-move as she smashes her fist into her other hand, instructing the Guardian of Alola to smash that poor Probopass into the dirt? Hilarious.
@JpGamerGuy90 I have no clue whatsoever about the Wii U's launch as I was completely tuned out from gaming for a few years there. And I understand your reservations about the NS. I'm curious, though, as to where the root of your disappointment with the 3DS lies. I've found it to be a heck of a system since I finally picked one up a couple years ago. Care to share?
I don't know if anyone here has played TowerFall: Ascension but it plays like a dream and seems a natural fit to a Nintendo console, despite the somewhat gory cartoon violence. It would be a wonderful addition to the digital library of the NS.
@IceClimbers Thanks for clarifying. I've seen an unreasonable number of people complaining that you won't be able to take the thing very far from the "base station" like the Wii U, as if they totally missed the guy playing it on the plane in the trailer. That's why I asked.
@IceClimbers Was there something in the trailer that led you to believe that the dock is in some way a part of the console or plays any role in its functionality? I thought it was clear that the tablet unit IS the console and the dock is just that: a dock, that charges the thing and sends video/audio out, possibly with some other media interfaces. Seem unremarkable and obvious to me that the pro controller works with just the tablet unit.
I have seen many people now thinking or expecting the dock to play some role in the function of the console and/or the peripherals. Maybe the trailer wasn't as clear as I thought?
@CrazyOtto Thanks for posting the link. Crazy sensation having been trudging through this understandably pessimistic comment thread for the last 30 minutes and then coming upon this!
@LemonSlice I am right there with you on the wireless headsets and try to keep my exposure to electromagnetic radiation at a minimum myself. My recent research on the subject led me to some information showing that using a wired headset on a cell phone can still significantly expose you. Apparently the wiring in the headphones can act as an antenna and pull the microwaves right to your head. It's something I think deserves looking into. There is more info on it at http://www.electricsense.com/
@SetupDisk The level of ignorance regarding modern storage media on display in this thread has been impressive, I'm sad to say. Thankfully, though, we do have informed, well spoken persons in our midst (ThanosReXXX for example) who have done a great job explaining the advantages of cartridge/card media.
@GameOtaku The execution of attacks is part of the experience. These are gigantic slabs of steel and bone you're swinging about. The devs obviously sought to express a sense of weight through the animations. This is also a core facet of the timing strategy that is fundamental to the game and makes it so satisfying to become proficient in.
I can understand 45 minute hunts if you're a complete beginner and just learning the ropes. Once you get the hang of things, though, it's unusual for any caravan hunt, if you're properly geared, to take longer than 10 minutes on average. Same goes for guild hall quests if you have a competent team.
If you do not find this style of game play to your tastes, that is one thing and you should feel free to state as much. But, to flatly proclaim that Monster Hunter is "just not as good as Final Fantasy Explorers" seems dubious at best. Particularly when you are basing your position on something untrue ("skills that lack the ability to hit multiple enemies") or your own lack of knowledge and/or experience of the game's mechanics.
@GameOtaku Which "skills that lack the ability to hit multiple enemies" are you talking about? You make it sound like there isn't a single thing in the game that can hit more than one target at a time.
Have you ever used a long sword's spirit round slash that slaps everything on screen? (even teammates; sorry, guys ) A greatsword's super swipe which has a huge arc of destruction? Gunlance shelling? Crag shot? Charge blade axe swings? There are numerous attacks that connect with multiple targets. Even then, though, the game is primarily geared around dealing with one large target at a time. In the event of multiple large monsters, you use dung bombs or smoke bombs to make things easier on yourself.
Not sure what you're getting at with the speed thing. Do you find the gameplay too fast or too slow?
I have been rather neutral on this subject since first made aware of the changes to FE: Fates and the Xenoblade stuff. At this rate, though, all of these different "changes" seem to be part of a potentially concerning trend.
Does anyone know who actually handled the localization for Bravely? From what I could find, Nintendo is publishing, so I presume they did. Would it have been NoA or NoE implementing these changes, or a combination of the two?
