Damn f2p. Would much rather pay for the game and keep the current lootbox system. I havent spent a dime on them yet I have almost 1000 unopened ones

@RCGamer there's a ton of games that should be on there by now. This drip drip release strategy is insulting and the main reason I'm not subbed yet.

Seems they're reluctant to go all out on one big collection. Kinda tired of buying a small selection of games every year. Charge $60 and give em all so they're all in one location.

@fafonio So I think it just comes down to perception of ownership which brings me back to my original argument about choice. While you don't see it as an issue, I absolutely would hate the idea of paying a big price for this knowing it'll be taken away at any point. I still go back and play Mario Kart 64 some times. Imagine going back to play it only for Nintendo to say "whoops sowwy you stopped paying for Nintendo online so now you can't play the game you bought". I want access to these tracks in 5, 10, 35 years. And considering the legs on Mario Kart 8, which has lasted two generations now, that's not unreasonable. This whole "games as a service" model is cancer.

@fafonio Not the worst thing in the world. But as someone who already has a library of Roms and has purchased these games on other platforms, it's hard to justify renting them just to play on switch. Outside of that what're the other benefits aside from renting Mario Kart DLC that you're better off purchasing outright, and playing Mario Kart and Smash Bros online with basic functionality (Smash online is a horrible laggy experience, so that's moot) that hasn't improved at all since they started charging for online?

@Bunkerneath no, and that's what makes it all so lame. You're not getting anything from the sub -, just limited access. If you don't care for renting roms that you've bought multiple times already, it's better to just buy the tracks outright.

Annoying that the subscription only lets you rent the courses.

@fafonio I'm glad you have 8 other 30 something's to play switch with. I do not. Most of my friends just play other consoles, if anything at all.

So if you're in a very specific situation, it works to that cheap. I'm in my 30s. I don't have a group of Bros with switches to split a family plan with. If they truly intended it to be that cheap for everyone, they wouldn't have created the family loophole and would've simply offered it at that price. You can't cherry pick one offhand scenario and use that exception as the rule lol.

@TKundNobody there have been court cases affirming that you can legally make backups. It's stated directly on copyright.gov. No grey area. 100% legal.

yes, the convenience factor is a selling point. Personally if I wanted to play a bunch of Roms on my switch if get a cheap Lite, homebrew it, and put my entire library on it, like I've done with my 3ds, vita, RetroPie handheld, and Wii. To each their own. I just don't see the value in it from my perspective. Options would be nice, but this is Nintendo we're talking about.

@fafonio Arent PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold $50 as well? I think that's the issue. When you objectively compare the services, there's no contest. There are more modern games offered on those services than the roms Nintendo is offering. Roms that people my age have purchased multiple times already. Also consider the lackluster online features in comparison to the competition. Nintendo said they're charging for online to improve the services...well it's the same it's been since launch.

@SpaceboyScreams Agreed, nor do they have any sense of objective principle. If we just spent "no big deal" $50 on everything each year, we'd be broke. Do they realize Nintendo isn't the only service competing for our subscription dollars? I've got other bills too lol

@TKundNobody roms aren't inherently illegal to have. We have our roms from virtual console days as well, bought legally and converted to roms to be played anywhere 🙂

@electrolite77 To play devil's advocate you could technically get that caviar for $10 and sell it to the table next to you for $60. So it does have value still whether you like it or not.

@Whitestrider I mean, if not a single credible reviewer speaks fondly of a game, chances are pretty slim that it's enjoyable or at least objectively sound in what it's trying to accomplish.

If a game on Steam has thousands of "overwhelming negative" reviews, and you go in thinking based on a preview that it will be good, and then are surprised it's bad, I would have no words...

@SpacedDuck bugs are fixed by patches. poor design and direction are not.

@Zach777 they are hoping that the hype they generate through their misinformed previews make enough sales before the review comes out. It's definitely shady.

Let's not forget they purposefully held back Baldo's review because when it launched it was so broken they were like "we'll wait for a patch" how is that fair to the people who bought it day 1?
