Re: Interview: "There Would Be No Control On Switch Without The Cloud," Says Remedy

Andy3004

There is no 'Control' on the Switch!

All there is, is a a game running on a PC-based server farm, with the only effort they did was putting together some king of 90kb remote control application that runs on the Switch. Since the general technology is available, they probably hired some students on minimum wage to put together this small app.

I cannot understand why any sane individual would pay 40 bucks for this kind of abomination... season passes are already bad for consumers, loot boxes are even worse.... but this abomination is completely off the scale.... they charge you money for nothing!

Fortunately the general gaming community seems to hate the likes of Google Stadia with a vengeance, so I got certain hopes that this crap won't be the future.

However, if this kind of abomination is the future of video games then I'm really, really glad that I do actually have quite a lot of other hobbies outsides of video gaming.

Oh.... and if any of you editors still got contact with the responsible staff from Remedy: tell them please that I'll never ever will touch any of their games even with a ten foot pole!

Re: Gun Gun Pixies Shoots Its Way To Switch This Year

Andy3004

@nofriendo
You actually are out of your mind. While I'm with you that violence against women is the worst thing possible, it is ridiculous for you blaming games like these. You obviously got a leftist position, ignoring the [removed] going on in countries like Saudi Arabia or Iran, where women are treated on the same level as cattle, due to those countries sickening, vomit inducing religion.

I mean, try walking into the likes of Teheran, talking about womens right and see what happens.

Getting out of your mind because of some harmless game, while women get mutilated by the millions due to some crack-brained religion just shows what a hypocrite you are!

Re: Gun Gun Pixies Shoots Its Way To Switch This Year

Andy3004

@nofriendo
Fortunately most folks here on the forum don't have any personal history with violence... But still, what is your point? The games being published are just fantasy. And they actually don't depict any kind of violence against women - most are based in a high-school setting with a boy-meets-girl scenario... so basically, a scene everyone is accustomed with. (And I mean this regardless of gender!)
Don't tell me you never fell in love with someone and went out heartbroken afterwards!! (Because in that case I would consider you to be nothing but a liar or something not quite being located in the human realm)

Re: UK Charts: Trials Rising Squeezes Into Top Ten, But Sales Were Lowest On Switch

Andy3004

Uhm... how is that even worth an article??? I mean looking just at the worldwide user-base, there are about 30 million Switches, 40 million X-Boxes and 90 million PS4s... I'd guess that even a first grader who knows nothing about concepts like 'normal distribution', wouldn't expect the Switch version to outsell the PS4 one.

Moreover, those statistics probably don't include the downloaded games - and methinks that Trials Rising is one particular game that one doesn't need a physical copy. The game is perfect to play on the go, and it doesn't take away that much space on your memory card either. Accordingly I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of Switch owners just went for the digital option.

Re: Feature: What Developers Really Think Of The Nintendo Switch eShop

Andy3004

@Agramonte
Hmm... mayhaps I've misjudged you...
Perhaps it is due to the fact that you work in advertising and I work in software architecture... (in fact you would be surprised by the amount of legacy stuff being written more than 40 years from today).
No hard feelings.... Sorry if I have been sounding too harsh... Ok?!

Re: Feature: What Developers Really Think Of The Nintendo Switch eShop

Andy3004

It's basically the same when it comes to PSVR... I mean, I got my PS4 Pro only for the VR thing, because I refuse to pay the ridiculous amount of money for a high-level PC with HTC Vibe and stuff.

@Agramonte: What are you even talking about??? They've been talking to folks who have actually done amazing things. Those studios are made of people who apparently care for that they do! I've been working in the IT field for more than 20 years and just by reading their comments, I can just bow my head due to their commitment towards their customers.

Tell me 'Agramonte': When was the last time you made a customer or a client really happy?
I did so last Wednesday. I was absolutely fed up with the s*** hitting the fan, but when I got a call from someone completely lost, I did my best to help.... and it turned out right.
And it felt great!!
Try this for a change, ok?!

Re: Feature: What Developers Really Think Of The Nintendo Switch eShop

Andy3004

I also think that Nintendo definitely needs to re-design their e-shop now that they seem to be throwing everything but the kitchen sink towards their clientele.
Then again, I'm not sure how they should do it... I mean, obviously there's a lot of what folks call 'shovelware' round there - but then again I downloaded the likes of "Frederic: Resurrection of Music" recently for only Euro 0,50 and I enjoyed that particular rhythm game much more than the likes of Voez or Deemo.
Yareyare...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (March 2nd)

Andy3004

Made it through 'Nekopara Vol. 1' yesterday and now I'm on my way through 'Nora to Oujo to Noraneko Heart'. Apart from the over the top humor both visual novels are a good way of keeping up with my Japanese skills (I always keep forgetting some of the more 'rare' Kanji, y'see).
I also spent way too much time with 'Trials Rising' on my Switch - I never thought that I'd enjoy this game but it is absolutely perfect to play on the go in short bursts.
Apart from that, I've been successfully trying to complete more tracks on 'Beat Saber' in expert mode and finished 'Moss' on my PSVR.

Re: Review: Trials Rising - Death-Defying Stunts On The Move

Andy3004

I already liked and spent way too much time with the Beta this weekend - so I probably cannot resist getting this in physical form for my Switch. Even though it's from Ubisoft (whom I hate), it's a good port. Not a perfect one, but one that is done well enough.
It's got good graphics and the frame rate is always stable. I played it mostly in portable mode (like I always seem to do) but I actually gave this one a bit of time in docked mode, and my only complaint is that they didn't seem do some improvements regarding boosting the graphics there. Well, at least it seemed to run at least a tiny bit more better.
Also played the PS4 beta (parallel with the Switch one, always playing one level after the other) which obviously does look more crisp... but since I do not much care about the 30fps vs. 60fps thingy, and since I also heavily prefer portability over 4k graphics, in this case I'll stick only with the Switch one.

Re: Trials Rising On Switch Doesn't Rise Up To The Challenge Of Its Rivals

Andy3004

Spent some hours on both the PS4 and the Switch demos.
PS4 obviously has much better graphics, but the Switch one ain't as bad as this article does imply. There are admittedly less details, but the frame-rate seems to be a stable 30fps. I had no 'hiccups' whatsoever on the Switch during my whole playtime.
However I also think that the game does look exactly the same in handheld mode as it does in docked one - so mayhaps the development team was indeed a bit lazy. Methinks that they could have boosted some graphics in docked mode, but ah well...

Re: Bud Spencer & Terence Hill Arrive On Switch With Slaps And Beans In Tow

Andy3004

@shani

You can repeat and repeat and repeat the same crap over and over again and wrap it up in any way you like. You just keep repeating yourself and only emblazon what you originally said with more and more and more useless words and bells and whistles.

Over the years I've grown sick trying to discuss with the ilk of fundamentalists like you and I know perfectly well that folks like you live only in their own micro-cosmos where they live supreme and only their thoughts are the only accepted order.

For all heck: if you dislike this game, then write an eMail or a Tweet or even a traditional letter to the producers of the game, and tell THEM how they should have done better. Or if you really have the resources and feel competent, then make a better game yourself. Even that can be done. But don't sprout out your personal, childish, fascist displeasure that the game didn't meet your own personal tastes into some random forum.

Re: Bud Spencer & Terence Hill Arrive On Switch With Slaps And Beans In Tow

Andy3004

@Shani:
I can only 100% agree with what Vitelus says: This game is just not for you. And that's all to it. You ain't no "potential buyer"!
In fact you're comments remind me strongly of the nauseating mindset of the regime Germany during the Third Reich, which they called "Entartete Kunst" (which translates as "degenerated Art").
They only loved the pure, photo-realistic Art, and condemned other art-styles like Impressionism, Expressionism and whatever as not meant for human consumption before it was being so ugly and not trying to picture reality in any way.
Your quotes clearly show that you got exactly the same mindset!
And that exactly means only one thing: that this game just is not for you! Nothing more. Nothing less.
So please: just don't buy it and don't leave crap comments that reminds everyone somehow about one of the darkest periods of European history.

Re: Talking Point: Switch's Blazing First Year Means Fewer Games In 2018 Shouldn't Be A Concern

Andy3004

Frankly speaking, I find myself playing more with my Switch in 2018 than I did in the past year. In fact my PS4 Pro has been collecting dust and I only occasionally use it for a bit of VR.

Then again, it may be because the Switch and the kind of games released for it fit perfectly into my schedule... I mean: I work for about 50+ hours a week, and on top of that I got an additional 15+ hours of commuting. I also got other hobbies and interests to care for: I like traveling, I'm indulging in photography with my DSLR, I occasionally do some semi-pro translation works from Japanese to English, I like doing some home-cooking and trying out new recipes, sometimes I opt in as a replacement bartender and mix some drinks and I also try to improve my skills in Mandarin.

For me, the Switch library is perfect - it gives me exactly what I want and I don't find it lacking in any way.

My guess is that detractors like "thesilverbrick" or "Cobalt" are either very rich and don't have to follow a working schedule like the majority of folks here on the forum or they are actually absolute geeks who are completely addicted to video games and thus need to spend all of their available resources on such purposes. And yes, with that in mind, I can understand (just like the same level that I can barely understand someone like Donald Trump) what they're saying. Still... they are an absolute minority. Video games are mostly discussed by the geeks and likes on forums, but they sell on the many.

For me... I just enjoy playing the Switch on my commute on the subway - regardless whether it is a round of Hollow Knight or Mario Odyssey or Doom or whatever - and then putting it on my big screen for another few minutes when I return home before heading for bed.

Likewise, I also seem to be one of the very few who actually uses tabletop mode - indeed I often meet with some friends at a local craft beer bar and we play things like Overcooked, Street Fighter or Fifa with the mini-controllers.

And I even had the chance for some Multi-Switch happenings after work, because during my last project I was in the fortunate position of being in a team of 12 IT-Consultants with 4 of them owning a Switch. XD

With all that said, I wonder what axe some of these participants round here have to grind? Either you are rich, and then it doesn't hurt you to financially to purchase a Switch too, or you're after the kind of games Sony specializes on - but then you don't need a Switch because Nintendo games probably won't interest you.

I would put in some famous "George Carlin" quote here aimed at certain detractors, but I guess everyone other around here knows already what I want to say, even if **they** are utterly unable to comprehend...

Dementsprechend... für jeden vernünftigen Menschen hier im Forum...... Masel Tov!! (^o^)/

Re: Feature: The Making Of Night Trap, The World's Most Famous Video Game Nasty

Andy3004

I have to agree with what 'samuelvictor' already stated: This particular game definitely was more interactive than most of the other stuff that was produced in this kind of genre. What pulled it down was the crappy video-quality the Sega-CD was to able to produce, the long loading times and surely also the witch-hunt that was started by brain-dead political idiots.

Don't get me wrong: this is not a good game by a long shot, but it also ain't a bad one either. If I had to give it a score, I'd probably rate it between 5 and 6 - and I'll get this one for sure just to revive the nostalgia of those good old times when the game was first released.

There is one thing though that puzzles me: Way back in the 80th and 90th the idiots piling [removed] on such harmless games always used to be located on the far right of the political spectrum. Nowadays, however the opposition (and basically the whole vitriol and hate) stems from idiots on the far left.

Really makes me vomit... >__<

Re: Circle Is Bringing Shelter Generations To Switch As A Console Exclusive

Andy3004

@SLIGEACH_EIRE

<quote>
Looking at reviews of Shelter 2, it has a score of 58% on Metacritic, while its average on Steam is 9/10. It doesn't make sense that there's such a disparity. What, critics don't like it, but the players do?
</quote>

It doesn't happen that often, but every now and then there is a disparity between what the critics say and between what the audience says. And it can be for a variety of different reasons.

Like other folks around here also mentioned - professional critics can take a certain view on games (probably because they are doing that game-reviewing stuff as a job) that doesn't exactly match with what the general player (who's just looking out for some fun or fan-service) might think.

Every now and then it also works out in the opposite way, when the critics praise a game and the majority of gamers considers it to be nothing but a turd.

I mean - even look at the disaster that was the Nintendo Switch version of WWE 2K18. I can kind of imagine what the development team had to go through (to put it short they were imho actually forced to ride a 'Hindentanic' into the market at full force) - but there still are people who seem to enjoy that game.
(Actually, since I only paid half price for it and mostly concentrate on short 1-on-1 matches during my shorter commutes, I would even count myself among those who wouldn't blame it to hell, since it's currently the perfect game for me to let off some steam while riding the subway on my way back from the office. XD )

Re: Hands On: The Future Of Gaming Is Cardboard, Thanks To Nintendo Labo

Andy3004

@thesilverbrick

Agreed...

This thing is very, very Japanese... Even by my standards... o_O; (And I am more or less fluent in the language and know their culture.)

The idea with the cardboard is great though, imho. Properly put together, those things can endure more punishment than stuff made from plywood.

Yet... honestly speaking... this whole thing still looks crazy to even mine jaded eyes. O____O

Re: Feature: What We Want From Nintendo In 2018

Andy3004

@Anti-Matter
In this particular case I completely agree with you. The 3DS is still an amazing gaming engine - for long commutes (which I had to do for a while, and we're talking the likes of 5 hours on a train two times a week) it is still probably the best there is and ever was.

Yet, the Switch is becoming more and more attractive and I even found myself playing it on rather short subway commutes (actually I managed to get around some nasty corner of Doom while getting back home after some drinking with friends).

Re: Review: Stern Pinball Arcade (Switch eShop)

Andy3004

@thesilverbrick

nods in agreement

The sad truth though is that the physical pinball tables have more or less gone the way of the Dodo. Those beautiful mechanical contraptions have become way too expensive and complicated - and frankly speaking: no-one - but old timers like me who already played arcade games before them even were video games - probably cares much about them anymore.

But then again, the mere fact that there is someone out there who thinks that a great re-creation of the old tables from yesterday might bring in some bucks, somehow shows that an audience still exists.

Besides: the Frankenstein Table is for free and it makes a great play on short commutes. (The cost for the other tables ain't that high either - I mean each one costs about the price of a Big Mac around here.)

Anyway, take care & and have a happy new year & best wishes for 2018! (^o^)/

Re: Review: Stern Pinball Arcade (Switch eShop)

Andy3004

@thesilverbrick

Are you only talking about simulated pinball games or about the real, mechanical ones?

I mean - I grew up at a time when there were still lots of real pinball machines around, and I always noticed that there were ones that I really couldn't get any enjoyment out of, whereas there were some (admittedly few) others that really sucked up my quarters.

While I played a lot of 'virtual' pinball games in recent years, I never actually got the same kick out of them compared to their mechanical and 'real' counterparts. Maybe that's really due to the nostalgia factor...

However, this particular game so far comes closest. I really like the vibes and the physics and I am tempted to pay a few bucks to download a few more tables.

Re: Rocket League Getting Performance-Boosting Update On Switch Later Today

Andy3004

@Nickster076

My update is also only the 1.0.2
However this imho makes perfect sense, since the latest Switch build was only 1.0.1 whereas the ones for the other platforms surely got a higher numbering because they have been in development for years now.

(Also: they are not talking about 1.0.4 but about 1.40!)

Since the PS4, XBOX and PC releases are the ones that - due the way bigger user-base - are obviously in their main focus making this twitter announcement.

Re: Review: Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - Dual Destinies (3DS eShop)

Andy3004

@andreoni79

I made the mistake and purchased the German translation version (my mother tongue, btw.) of one of the former Phoenix Wright games and it was complete and utter crap. On the other hand, the English versions were always top-notch (apart from the fact that they might have done more spell-checking. I have no doubt that the other European translations were similar disastrous.
I also compared the English version of Dual Destinies with the demo of the Japanese one that I downloaded on my Japanese 3DS. This one covers only the first day, but judging from that I can acknowledge that they've done an excellent job with the English translation.
I was pondering of playing this one in Japanese - however I got an European 3DS XL and only a normal (small) Japanese one, and I'm really glad that I waited for the English one to appear round here.
So please, do yourself a favor and get the English version and do not miss this excellent game.
