Re: Investors React Negatively to Nintendo Switch Launch Details

@ThanosReXXX At the end of the day, regardless of what PS4 and Xbone cost at launch, the Switch is going up against them at what they cost NOW. If someone walks in a shop with enough money for one console, they will consider PS4, Xbox or Switch, so the Switch needs to be competitive in the context of the market which it forms a part.

Regarding your car purchase analogy, would a consumer go for a car that has been around a couple of years, is proven with a lot of dealerships to back it up and with a great engine and a lower price, or would they go for a new car to the market with not many dealerships, lots of fancy but irrelevant tech that they may never use, a slower engine and a higher price?

I guess you pay your money and make your choice.

I really want Nintendo to succeed with the Switch, I have a Wii U and love it. However, I also had to buy a PS4 a few yaers later to get access to all the third party games I want to play, and I don't have the money right now to buy a Switch AND the upcoming PS4 games I want.

I can get Zelda on Wii U, and it looks like nothing else I am interested in is coming out until Mario Odyssey. So personally I can't see a reason to buy a Switch until at least Christmas.

Sadly if enough people think the same, the install base will be small, which means third parties won't invest in making games for it, and we're back to the same downward spiral and low sales figures as the Wii U.

I just hope someone from Nintendo is reading the comments on here and will take them on board.

@Ryu_Niiyama I think investors expect(ed) a home console box without any gimmicks and the horsepower to run the same games as PS4 and Xbone. Then you'd basically have a third console with all the third party games but also with Nintendo exclusives. There'd be a tangible reason for buying it as your only/main console then. As it is, Switch is going to miss out on a lot of the third party games again (case in point: Mass Effect Andromeda) and people with money to only buy one console will go for Sony or Microsoft.

@Danrenfroe2016 funny you should mention the technical and repair issues; I had a problem with my Wii U gamepad early December whereby the screen got stuck and wouldn't recognise any input. I tried phoning Nintendo customer service, and after waiting in a queue for 20 minutes on 3 separate occasions without getting through, I emailed them asking about a repair, and pointing out it was fairly urgent as my Son was getting some games for Xmas and wanted to be able to play them. I heard nothing back from Nintendo and it was looking like I might need to buy a new Wii U just to get the pad... In the end, I found an independent repairer that did the job for a reasonable £40 and we had the pad back in time for Xmas. Early January Nintendo finally emailled back suggesting that I might want to send them the pad for a repair assessment, and that a repair was likely to cost £80... Anyway the point I'm trying to make is, if the Wii U only has the console and gamepad to go wrong, imagine the inconvenience and hassle of having a dock, two joycons and a tablet to go wrong, not to mention the cost of repairs if they're out of warranty...

@wizzgamer Fair point; I had both a Dreamcast and a Jaguar, and whilst I fondly remember most of the games on the Dreamcast, I'd be hard pressed to tell you one I had on the Jaguar...

By pricing the games at £60 Ninty are putting themselves in the same market space as the PS4/Xbone. They'd be better to go for £30 a game and make themselves a value proposition, an alternative. How many copies of 1, 2, Switch do you envisage selling at £60? Tbh I doubt they'd shift them at £30...

I don't think I'll be bothering with the Switch. £280 (without a game) is way too expensive. I have a Wii U and will probably get BotW on that, but then I'm done with Nintendo; there are far too many decent games due on PS4 that are clamouring for my money (Mass Effect Andromeda, Torment: Tides of Numenara, Persona 5, FF7 remake...) And the sad thing is all those 4 together will cost less than the Switch. I can't see why anyone with a Wii U and a second console for their 3rd party games would bother with the Switch until at least Mario Oddysey is released?
