@Ralizah It's already live on Metacritic, and I've made five duplicate accounts to make sure everyone reads it!

@Zuljaras Maybe Uncharted 4. Uncharted 1, 2 and 3 have aged a lot more compared to TLOU. Especially Uncharted 1. Pretty revolutionary for its time, but nothing special today.

You can say that again. I only got into the Uncharted series on PS4 because I never had a PS3. The first game hasn't aged well at all. It feels very average today.

2 and 3 both play very well still but feel very old fashioned. Although I think a massive part of that is down to how much the style of storytelling and characters has changed in the last decade. Those earlier games have a very tongue-in-cheek parody-esque style to them. None of the AAA developers make stuff like that anymore. Everything is super serious nowadays.

@Octane

Maybe I should give the sequels a chance then. Because I played Uncharted 1, enjoyed it for what it was, and pretty much had no interest in playing any more. But if the sequels are that much better, maybe I should give them a go.

Wow that Crash 4 trailer from a week ago has 16 million views on youtube. I seriously don't understand how this franchise got so popular. And I like it a fair amount. I just don't think it deserves Mario-level popularity.

@iKhan

The sequels are a LOT better. Uncharted 2 and Uncharted 4 are probably my 2 favourite action games of all time.

Well tomorrow I will start with Uncharted 1 and see where it leads me. I am curious about the story.

From what I have seen it looks like a murderous Indiana Jones and I would love that

Octane

@iKhan Yeah, they do get better with each entry IMO. Uncharted 2 and 3 are pretty much on par. Many people prefer 2, but 3 had its moments as well. Uncharted 4 is again a leap forward in quality. But it's also on the PS4 instead of the PS3, so it looks better, is more detailed, and probably the longest game too. It also has a bunch of new gameplay features like the grappling hook, which makes the encounters a lot more fun and dynamic. I think I like Uncharted 4 the most. They are pretty enjoyable for what they are.

@Dezzy Yeah I don't know. I grew up with Mario 64, so Crash always seemed like a very restricted game to me. I don't really like the aesthetics of the remakes and the new game either. But people seem to like it. More power to them though.

I think U2 has the overall better pacing, level design and story, but U3 has the best epic set pieces by far. I'll never forget the cruise ship getting flooding with water or falling out the back of the cargo plane. Those are so masterfully designed action segments.

@Ralizah Yes, it's a good game, just not a good Zelda game. Just like @Dezzy said, polls are voted by recent players but many long-time fans of The Legend of Zelda have a lot of issues with Breath of the Wild. Reviews of the previous Zelda games are also sky-high. To me polls or sales don't mean a thing, people who have played every single Zelda game except Tingle's and CDi weirdness are more relevant. I don't hate Breath of the Wild, in between, but I listed a long list of wrongs back in the day. About Super Mario Odyssey, it's not bad either. Controls are great and visuals are fine but it's more boring. Super Mario 64 is a combination of exploration and platform challenges while Super Mario Odyssey feels like a short trip and then a very dull sandbox and I think that's why fans think that it's good but not great.

@iKhan I beat Uncharted 1 before the others and it isn't any good but 2 fixed most of the technical, camera and gameplay issues. 4 is the best in my opinion but 2 and 3 are also good. About The Lost Legacy all I remember is driving the jeep and finding secret holes. It was average in my opinion. Uncharted 4 is also my favourite Naughty Dog game.

@BlueOcean The thing is that I wouldn't say that I had many technical, camera, or gameplay issues with 1. I just thought it was a fine passable shooter with a couple of decent puzzles.

@iKhan The shooting parts of 1 are awful but I also found issues with the platforming and camera. If you have The Nathan Drake Collection and you have played 1, 2 is much better.

Uncharted are like “popcorn” video games. Great production values and set pieces, but not much depth at all to the experience. The writing was sharp at first, but I got sick of Nathan Drake’s personality along with the cast of wise cracking side-kicks.

Nathan Drake is like the sitcom version of Indiana Jones. Like the Chandler character from Friends got a rugged Old Navy make over, but kept the same cheesy one-liners.

So I just bought Zero Escape: The Nonary Games. It was on sale so I thought I would give it a try. So far it's interesting and I am realizing I am a sucker for these kinds games even though a week ago I literally didn't know they exist.
There are different routes to take in this game, it seems? I now have to make a choice which door to take and it feels kinda crucial. Anyway, so far I'm enjoying the setting and the few little puzzles I had to solve.

I still don't have any explanation for the massive gap between the legacy games media response to TLOU2 and the youtubers response.

Both Yong Yea and Angry Joe did reviews in the last few days and both of them seem to dislike it quite a bit.

So why all the 10/10s? What's going on here exactly?

Octane

@Dezzy Different point of view? It really depends on how you review the game I think. Big outlets will try to have a more ''objective'' view. Story is the biggest reason why it gets low scores, and yeah, if you're just a YouTuber venting your frustrations online I can see why you'd score it lower. And this is the really difficult part, because a bold and divisive story is hard to review. Some will like it, some won't. But do you score a game with a divisive story lower because YOU as a reviewer didn't like it. And note, this isn't an objectively bad story IMO, it's divisive.

So maybe reviewers looked at it from a ''yeah, some won't like it, others will, but game itself is really good so it still deserves a high score'' point of view.

The Last of Us is one of my favourite games, and IMO the sequel lives up to it. But then again, I'm not too fussed about stories. I'm invested in the characters, but if the writers decide that one of them should die, so be it, I'm willing to accept that. I'm just in it for the ride. And I think it helps that I went in with zero expectations. If you went in expecting a copy of the first game with Joel and Ellie travelling through the states, and if you really cared that much about the characters, then yes, you'll be disappointed. But I applaud them for doing something differently. At least it's not a bog standard sequel.

I don't understand why people get so worked up about a story IMO.

@Dezzy I watched a bit of the YongYea review, but he seems to have a massive crush on Joel, so it's no surprise he didn't like it lol.

Is there any PS4/console exclusive that might "sell" me on the system? I should mention I do own a PS4, but it sits under my TV doing nothing but be a DVD player (yes, DVD player, I know what I said) from time to time. My sister gave it to me a few months back because she never played it, and you don't say no to free stuff like that. She gave me some games with it. Traded in games I already owned on my PC and got games I thought I might like, but my PS4 still sits there unused.

I've played Horizon Zero Dawn, and that one was ok. Gameplay was nothing new, story was ok.
I tried the Kingdom Hearts collection, but it... isn't for me I guess? I could try again but I don't know.
I have P5R, but I have yet to even open it.

I have a modest gaming PC, which is where most of my modern games hide. I still enjoy playing with a controller though, seeing as most games are made with one in mind and not a keyboard and mouse. Not to mention my brain just likes simpler things to remember. I am not planning on getting rid of my PS4, seeing as it's the only device I have to watch DVDs, but that seems like a waste if all it's doing is being a DVD player.

Hmm, since most were timed exclusives, @BenRK .... Probably not now? The Last of Us is about the only one I know that's still not available anywhere else & I'd like to try it

@BenRK As far as PS4 exclusives go, and the ones I liked quite a lot:

Gravity Rush
God of War
Shadow of the Colossus
Spider-Man
The Last Guardian
The Last of Us Remastered
The Last of Us Part II
Uncharted 4
Uncharted Lost Legacy

There's a bunch of other exclusives that are quite cheap these days and maybe worth looking into: Tearaway Unfolded, Infamous Second Son, Days Gone, Bloodborne, etc.

It depends on what you're into. If you like Dark Souls, Bloodborne is worth a try. Days Gone is something people seem to like a lot, even though it was met with ''mixed'' reviews (I think it's one of those solid 7s on Metacritic). Shadow of the Colossus and The Last Guardian are quite different experiences, you either like them or you don't, but Shadow of the Colossus is often hailed as one of the best games. God of War is one of my personal favourites, and it mixes open world, with linear levels and intense combat really well. But yeah, like I said, it depends on what you're into. What kind of games do you like?

And of course, Ghost of Tsushima is their upcoming (and probably last) big exclusive.

Octane

BenRK

@BruceCM I should mention that I meant that if a game as an xbox one version, that's fine and counts towards "exclusive" for me. I wasn't clear about that. And it's not like PC gaming is this magical bastion of perfection, so if a game is just "better" on console, I'd like to know too. I am lowering the bar to entry in hopes of seeing something that makes me go "I am glad I have a PS4 so I can play that" and not "another Assassins Creed game? Eh..."

BenRK

BenRK

@Octane I've never been interested in the Uncharted series, but I got 4 for free a few months ago. Could try it out.

I enjoyed Spider-Man 2 back in the day. Is the Spiderman game on the PS4 comparable to that? Hopefully without that pizza song? Insert PTSD war flashback here with that song playing.
